The Life and Times of WR Nick Coffey

This is my RFTH which I am completely simming to import into Madden's SS mode, enjoy!

Volume 1: Life as a Red Raider

After walking onto Texas Tech's football team wideout Nick Coffey impressed everyone, although being looked at early on as the 5th best WR on the team he made the most out of his playing time and worked his way onto the field as a starter and finished 3rd on the team in recieving yards and wowing the nation with his skills and earning Freshman All American honors.

By the start of his Sophomore season Nick had worked his way into the #1 WR spot and helped carry his team to a 2nd straight Big 12 conference championship game, unfortunately he could not lead them to victory this time. He came just short of placing in the heisman voting but still earned first team Big 12 and All American honors.

Going into his Junior season everyone was hyping up his Heisman hopes and although he didn't win, he certainly did not dissapoint. Coffey led the team to another great season, keeping the Red Raiders in the nations top 25 all season long and leading them to an impressive win over Oklahoma in a offensive shootout 55-52, in which he had 273 yards and 5 TD. He led the team to a Fiesta bowl loss to Texas A&M.

After contimplating leaving for the NFL Nick remembered what he had come to Tech to do, and that was to lead the team to a National Title and to win the Heisman Trophy, so he chose to return to Texas Tech for his Senior season with those 2 goals once again on his mind. He began his Senior year as the 5th player on the Heisman favorites list. The Red Raiders had another great year with big wins over ranked Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska moving Tech up to as high as #3 in the nation, but a late season loss to #1 Texas A&M dropped the Red Raiders back to #7 but thanks to some other teams losses they were able to move back up to #3 before the conference championships but to #2 in the BCS which put them in position for revenge against the Texas A&M Aggies for the National Title. By the time the title game rolled around the awards had been given out and Nick did not recieve the Heisman he had hoped for, but he did recieve the Best WR award and got his team into the National Championship game, now it was time to lead them to one last victory.

Nick Coffey's final college game was a showdown in Miami at the Orange Bowl, #3 Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1) vs #1 Texas A&M Aggies (13-0). It was a shootout from the start, after going down 14-0 early, Tech stormed back and began exchanging scores and the lead back and forth. It became a nail biter in the final 2 minutes with Tech making a comeback from 13 points down with Coffey catching a TD wo put the Red Raiders up 1 with a minute and a half left in the game. Then with just under a minute left A&M ran the ball in for the score to go up 40-35 after missing the 2 point conversion. Then on the ensuing drive Coffey pulled in yet another bid TD, Tech added on the 2 points to go up 43-40 with less than 30 seconds remaining. A&M could do nothing right in those final 30 seconds giving Tech the victory and ending Coffey's college career on one final sweet note.

    Here are Nick's career stats:
    351 Receptions, 4,909 yards, 59 TDs, 3,440 RAC, 6 drops
    3 Rushing Att, 22 yards, 12 YAC, 4 Fumbles
    22 Kick Ret, 544 yards
    6 Punt Ret, 60 yards

    Individual Awards:
    2005 Freshman All-American
    2006 1st Team All-American, 1st Team All-Big 12
    2007 1st Team All-Big 12
    2008 1st Team All-American, 1st Team All-Big 12, Best WR

    Team Awards:
    2005 Big 12 Championship
2008 ADT National Championship, Orange Bowl (2009)

Re: The Life and Times of WR Nick Coffey

Now that I have a set of rosters that is non-defective....

Volume 2: Entering into the Leage

After scoring a 70 on the pre-draft IQ test a few more teams became slightly more interested in Coffey. The first round went by quickly with Coffey still waiting in the Green room, but only 8 picks into the 2nd round he heard that sweet sweet sound of his cell phone ringing, to his suprise it was Jim Haslett informing Nick that he was about to be their 2nd round pick. Nick then hugged his family before being called up to the stage to hold up that Saints jersey and place that hat on his head, knowing that he was about to begin a great career in his mothers home state.

Once he arrived in N.O. Nick was introduced to the media and to the city where he also recieved his new number, #18. After the press conference Nick met some of his new teammates Aaron Brooks, Deuce McAllister, and Donte Stallworth who showed him around town and the teams fascilities.

After agreeing to a 2 year contract worth a total of $3.5 million it was time to report to camp. Heading into camp Nick was looking to be the Saints #4 WR.

Re: The Life and Times of WR Nick Coffey

After a tough week of pre-season workouts the Saints were ready to face off against the Seahawks at home in their first pre-season game.

Nick Coffey was embarrased on the opening kickoff when trying to make a solo tackle on Morris. Coffey tried to lower the boom, but instead got bowled over. Later in the first quarter the Saints called a 5 reciever set so on came Nick and to his suprise the ball was thrown his way only to be broken up by the DB in the flats. After his team scored a FG he headed back onto the field for the kickoff, this time he was the first man to the ball and lowered a solid shoulder into Morris sending him to the ground and giving Nick Coffey his first career tackle. Later in the 2nd Quarter Nick caught his first pass for 4 yards on a short out route. Coffey finished the game with 6 receptions for 70 yards.
