Arizona Diamondbacks Owner Mode (MVP 05)

Alright, so a few people wanted the Ultimate Owner Mode thing to start back up. I don't have much to do so I figured I'd attempt to give people something to read. I'll be doing updates like in the other one, by giving a summary of each month, with a little more information at the end of the season.

    Personal Rules to keep realism...
    - Only trade for players on the trading block
    - No more than 3 trades in one season
    - trades can't be getting rid of more than 500k

I'd really appreciate comments on this, so it gives me a reason to keep going. I'll try to keep this going as long as people keep reading it.

The Diamondbacks finished the month of April only 2 games behind the Padres. A 11-13 record shows how bad the National League West really has been doing so far. The only injury for the major league team was Shawn Estes, who missed 3 starts and was on the DL for 15 days. It was a bigger loss than one would expect, as in his 3 starts during the month, he went 2-0 with a 3.78 era.

      May: 17-11
      Overall: 28-24
1st in NL West, 1 Game Up on the Giants

It was a great month for the D-Backs, with the highlight being a seven game winning streak between the 7th and 13th. In those 7 games, the opposing team averaged a little over 2 runs per game. There were two shutouts during the streak as well. Troy Glaus hit 8 home runs in the month of May, increasing his total to 15 for the year, good enough for 2nd most in the National League.

Matt Morris has made his early bid for the Cy Young with the Cardinals. After the first two months of the season he has an 8-1 record with a 1.60 ERA. Barry Zito has done the same for the Athletics in the American League, with similar stats. He has an 8-1 record with a 1.79 ERA.

Jistics All-Star sliders, though I'm not sure why that would matter since I'm simulating these games.

                June: 15-13
                Overall: 43-37
1st in NL West, 2.5 games ahead of Giants

June had nothing special. There are a couple of decent players on the market who might wind up being Diamondbacks before the trade deadline. The player I'd really like to go after is Rob Mackowiak, who is hitting .308 with 15 HR and 42 RBI this year. He would probably be able to help the team out a lot more than the struggling Quentin McCracken, who is hitting .297 with 7 HR and 30 RBI. There also might be a deal made to improve the starting rotation. Russ Ortiz has a 6.84 ERA after 16 starts, and Shawn Estes has done horrible the last month, and now has a 5.34 ERA in 12 starts. The Diamondbacks could go after either lefty Dan Meyer, or Gavin Floyd.

There have been some pretty big trades as well, here are a few of them.
KC trades Angel Berroa, Matt Stairs, and John Buck to CWS for AJ Pierzynski, Juan Uribe, and Paul Konerko
CHC trades Jerry Hairston Jr. and Mike Remlinger to SEA for Dan Wilson and Pokey Reese
TOR trades Orlando Hudson to DET for Chris Shelton
SEA trades Julio Mateo to CWS for Aaron Rowand
TEX trades R.A. Dickey and Gerald Laird to SF for Tom Wilson and Deivi Cruz
SEA trades Jesse Foppert, Miguel Olivo and Willie Bloomquist to ANA for Dallas McPherson, Greg Jones, and Bengie Molina
ATL trades Johnny Estrada to NYM for Danny Graves

                  July: 10-16
                  Overall: 53-53
1st in NL West, 0.5 games ahead of the Giants

Two trades were made by the Diamondbacks before the All-Star game. One was trading Quentin McCracken for Rob Mackowiak. The other was Russ Ortiz for Dan Meyer and Kiko Calero. Only time will tell if these were good deals or not. The month of July itself was a bad one. It included a 9 game losing streak after the All-Star break. There are now 4 teams in the NL West that are within a game of first place.

In 25 starts with the Diamondbacks, Rob Mackowiak has hit .314 with 6 HR and 10 RBI. Dan Meyer has also done pretty well since coming to Arizona. He is 1-2 with a 3.91 ERA in his 5 starts, which is much better than his 6.17 ERA he had in Oakland.

                  JULY TRADES

CHC trades Corey Patterson, Todd Walker, and Michael Barrett to HOU for Andy Pettite, Chad Harville, and Lance Berkman

                    Overall: 62-73
4th in NL West, 11 games behind Dodgers

What a difference a month can make, huh? We went from having a good shot at a chance in the playoffs to dropping out completely. Troy Glaus had been carrying us along and he went dead cold in August, dropping from 3rd in the MVP rankings to completely out of them. Rob Mackowiak continues to impress, hitting .301 with 11 HR and 19 RBI in 54 games as a D-Back. He will be a top priority come time to resign players, and his presence will probably delay the arrival of top prospects Carlos Quentin and Conor Jackson.
