In order to ensure a complete and unanimous way to decide a national champion, the NCAA has developed a playoff in DIA football. The teams that are competing in this game are the six champions from the BCS conferences and two at large teams that are not from the major conferences. The teams that have earned the right to play in the national championship are:

SEC Champion: Georgia
ACC Champion: Florida State
Big 12 Champion: Texas
Pac 10 Champion: USC
Big 10 Champion: Penn State
Big East Champion: West Virginia
At Large: Notre Dame
At Large: TCU

The seeds are determined solely by BCS rankings:

2-Texas
3-Penn State
4-Notre Dame
5-Georgia
6-West Virginia
7-TCU
8-Florida St.
