Coaching Career of Aubin Murphy (Navy Midshipmen & Beyond)

This is a quick and dirty recap of my season so far. I decided that I was having way too much fun trying to turn these guys around to not have a legacy thread.

    Difficulty: All-Conference
    Style: Coach Mode ONLY
    Half Length: 15 Minutes
Adjustments: OSUPiper's Fitness Settings [all others default]

    This is the 2005-2006 Season:

I'm curious as to what offensive and defensive styles you are playing now. You seem to have really hit you stride and found out what works best with this team.

Well, it's really simple. I'm using the Flex playbook since my 4 & 5 are my best players because of Low O ratings in the 80's and Close Shot ratings of 85 or better.

Before each game I look at my opponent's primary and secondary defense. Before tipoff, I set my 8 d-pad plays to those that will exploit weaknesses in my opponents defense. I've done this for my last 3 games. It's not fool proof as you can see because I still lost by 22 to Lehigh.

As an example, Lafayette's primary was a 2-3 I think and their secondary was a 2-1-2 which is just a variation of the 2-3. I primarily called 2-3 Zone Offensive plays and some 1-3-1 plays.

I used Coaches Clipboard dot net to find out what weaknesses each defense has. I'll continue to use my Zone Offense until I can learn what plays work well against what zone weaknesses.

Here's the link to a post I made in the coach mode discussion thread that list each defense's weaknesses. So, I guess I really don't have a set offensive style. We just adapt to what the cpu is doing to us.

For defense, I generally stick to a 2-3 or a 3-2 against good shooting teams. I sometimes go 2-3 Matchup because my 1, 2 & 3 all have on-ball defense ratings in the 70's but my big men need help. I've got a SF who doesn't start but has an on-ball defense rating of about 72. He's undersized [6'5"] though so the most he could do is play the 4 and he does that quite regularly.

        Navy 45 35 - 80
We lead by as much as 21 but only won by 11. This is most likely one of the best games my guys have had. Coaching to the weaknesses of our opponent's defensive scheme has worked wonders. If this keeps up, we may have a good year in year 1. We're now 3rd in the Patriot League.

This tops my last game as the best game my guys have played. SO PG, #10, really played well recording his first double-double of the season. I'm expecting great things from him in the future. PF #21, who starts at C, is only a JR and is the co-leader in scoring averaging 13.7 PPG. I'm just really proud of the way my guys play for me. Assists are up and turnovers are down which is leading to more and more wins. We've now won 8 of our last 11 games and are now above .500 for the first time all season.

Congrats on the W vs Army. You'll get a medal for that.

Thanks! It felt good to get that W. I just hope that my guys can continue to play above their heads and we can win the Patriot League and possibly get a spot in the dance.

Man, SG #5 went completely off in this game. He finished with 38 points going 11/21 from beyond the arc. I wasn't pleased with his shot selection early in the season but now that he's taking threes because it's exploiting the opposing defense, I love this guy. Too bad he's a SR. PG #10, SO, had 2 points but 18 assists with only 3 turnovers. This kid is gonna be a good one if I can get him to score a bit more. We improve to 9-7 (3-2) and are #3 in the Patriot League. What a turn around from starting 0-4 huh? The average score of my last 4 games, all wins, has been 79-61!!!!!!!!
