Becoming A Legend: The Legacy of Lex Brock (CH2K6)

Inspired by NoleFan's post of his coach mode legacy. I figured it would be kinda cool to also post a Dynasty thread and try to keep it updated. I'm not sure if I will update it after every game yet or not. If I continue to play 2-3 games a day, I will likely just update it once a night.

I'm currently going with a big man lineup as I am in a fairly difficult part of my schedule and pounding it in the paint has been what is working best for my squad. I've also been rotating Timberlake and Didion starting at the point depending on who seems to be most productive each game. After looking at some of my stats, I may try Caruthers as my starting PG, but I'm not sure how a Frosh will handle that kind of responsibility. At the beginning of the season I had a smaller lineup, starting Caruthers as SG and Scott at the SF spot. Caruthers did wonders dishing it down low, but I wasn't able to maximize Scott's potential like this. He was lucky to get 4PPG, although he would corral about 6 or so RPG. Since rotating him up to SG he is getting closer to 14PPG and still hauling down 4ishRPG. I dunno, we'll see what the other teams look like once I hit it deep into conference scheduling.

Nice! I see you're having more initial success with North Florida than I did with Navy.

Re: Becoming A Legend: The Legacy of Lex Brock (CH2K6)

Thanks It has been going pretty good so far, which has really surprised me considering how tough of a schedule North Florida has (for a small team anyway). As you can see I am constantly on the road during the non-conference leg of my schedule, and every team that I've played except for Savannah St has dominated me in team ratings. I've just found that pounding it in the paint with my big men has been very effective against everyone. Heck, I even kept the game with Clemson close (lead the entire first half, stayed within 3 points in the second) until there was about 6 minutes left in the second half. Then my team started running ice cold and Clemson got on a streak.

The only thing that really concerns me so far is that, in real life anyway, this is North Florida's first year in D1 and they won't have full eligability until the '09-'10 season. I'm not sure if the game knows this or not. It would suck if I can't play for the Conference championship and can't play in March Madness for 4 years. I guess we'll have to wait and see on that.

The thing that surprises me the most is how well I am adjusting my playing style to fit this team. Ya see, I usually like to play a more uptempo game. Lots of fast breaks, quick looks and quicker slashes, constant full court trap to generate tons of turnovers. Sort of like North Carolina from last year, or a Kentucky team from the Rick Pitino era. But I can't do anything close to that with this North Florida team. We don't have the shooters or the athletes to play a fast paced game. So I've had to play a very slow, methodical style. Work the ball around outside, finding the good passing lanes down low, waiting on the perfect look. I think I've adjusted pretty well, and it has made me really appreciate that coaching style.

I didn't grab the team ratings until after the game when the idea came to me that posting them might be helpful. So I'm unsure what their coach's rating was, but it was a B+ OVR in his profile. We really played our game this time around. I went into halftime with a 19 point lead and it got as high as a 25 point lead in the second half. My guys hit a cold streak for about the last 9 minutes of the game, but they played a tough Man-to-Man D to hold on for the win.

I will keep tabs on this legacy. I hope those sliders keep it competitive. I found success the same way you have: pounding it in the paint. You will win most games if you are able to do that, simply because those are higher % shots.

            Good luck!

This was really a heartbreaker. We started out cold and they jumped to a 19-4 lead in the first, but we finally started to heat up and put some pressure on them on D. Switching between a 2-3 and Man D every 4 or 5 trips up the court had them staggering, and we ended up getting back into the hunt. It was 32-32 at the break. The second half started off much like the first, except there was no end in sight for the cold streak. Grimball and Ashwell, my two centers who start PF-C for me, both got into early foul trouble. But my defensive plan was still working well on them, and I kept their lead to only 9 until the last two minutes. I started with intentional fouls down the stretch, and they didn't miss a single 1-and-1. And when we would get the ball down the court we couldn't have thrown it into the basket if it were the size of a golf ball. So the final seconds ticked off to them winning by 18. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in both myself and my players. And I noticed two things: 1) I seem to have a lose 2, win 2 pattern going on; and 2) the guy with the best FG% on Stetson's team was .666 I have a sneaking suspicion that they made a deal with the devil during halftime to pull out this win. lol

From the overall ratings, your defense doesn't look too solid, or your rebounding. You are definitely going to have games like this, although you must have hit the baords pretty hard to keep up in that category.

From the stats it appears that turnovers really cost you, leading to some easy layups. Without knowing any more about your team, it looks like you should slow the game down against most opponents, and pack it in. Get back and play transition D to stop the easy layups, drop to a 2-3, control the defensive boards, and then run a Princeton, Flex or Motion and hammer it inside. Win ugly.

I hear ya. I have been completely surprised with how well my defense and rebounding has actually been up to this point considering how poorly I am rated in those categories. My boys obviously aren't masters of either, but they really put forth solid efforts most of the time and do well.

Yeah, TOs did play a major role, but I would say that about 6 or so of those happened in the last 2-3 minutes. Stetson's guys seemed to have premonitions or something and stepped into every passing lane at the perfect times. Most of my turnovers happen whenever my offense is setting up. Since my guys have such low offensive awareness, when my opponant is running a zone D (either 2-3 or 3-2) my guys have a problem with slamming passes off their chests/heads/etc instead of trying to bounce pass around the defensers. Its a bit frustrating, cause it really seems like that would be common sense......but I guess that is in short supply for my boys.

I run a Flex offense. After playing through Midnight Madness I saw just how much weight my big guys could carry on their shoulders, especially Grimball. They aren't rated as high as Scott, my SG, but they seem to be more consistant. So I decided my offense should be run through the low post, and the Flex seems to do this the best while still giving me the option to pop it out from midrange with my guards or have them slash inside to draw the foul. My guys aren't really athletic enough to run the Motion or Princeton, although I do have a couple Motion plays that I run.

To tell the truth, I just got outplayed by Stetson. I tried to play a slower game, but they kept the tempo fast for most of the game and really kept my guys out of our element. I understand this is natural, and it is just something I will have to deal with as best I can until I get the type of guys in there that I need to solidify things more.

Re: Becoming A Legend: The Legacy of Lex Brock (CH2K6)

Well, after reading a few more threads, I have become aware that the A potential bug can also cause your legacy to freeze at the end of the season. Before this I was under the impression that it was only the N/A hometown thing that caused the freezes. Since I editted my team's names in-legacy I was forced to do Edit Player rather than simply Edit First/Last Name and thus made all my players have the A potential bug. So I decided to sim the remainder of the season and see if I would get the freeze. And sure enough, I did. All five times I tried to end the season.

Because of this, I am scrapping my North Florida legacy. I am going to pack up Lex Brock and move him over to the SWAC to join up with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. So I will repost a new legacy thread for Lex, and if any mods come across this thread and would like to lock/delete it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for keeping up with my legacy and I hope to see your comments continue in my new thread.
