Don MacArthur coaching dynasty (NCAA 07 PS2)

At the end of an 1-10 campaing the Buffalo Bills needed a complete coaching change, and for the AD there weren't a lot of options. Plenty of washed out high school coaches and many underachieving coordinators were in line to apply, but the AD knew he had to make a bigger splash. Not only for the team but for the university, someone that would grab the New York school some attention. That is when the AD saw the application of MacArthur. MacArthur had spent a few years calling play by play for High School teams in South Carolina and hod gotten in trouble and fired by his manager for being overly critical of coaches and of the state. MacArthur was called in as a last resort and had aced the interview, he had the fire and the will to win and enough knowledge to get by on in the AD's mind and called for a press conference the next day.

MacArthur started out with the usual remarks every new coach gives about how he thinks his team can compete, and gave all the usual coach's rhetoric he had heard as an announcer. Then in his southern drawl and the dry humor he had been known for he said "I may not do everything right but, hell, I sure can do enough to win more than one game." With that the conference ended and the few sports writers went on their way only giving the though of "what did i do to deserve this job?" going through their mind.

The first thing Don MacArthur did was look at his schedule. It wasn't too difficult of a schedule by mediocre team's schedule, but this was Buffalo. Their first game was against Temple. MacArthur then looked at his roster of players and decided who to redshirt, after plenty of thought he called his star offensive player in to his office. "Son, I think it's best if we redshirt you. you have a lot of potential and have a better chance to win next year and this gives us more of a future. Plus we have a senior backing you up at quarterback and since we're not gonna be all that great, we might as well give him as much playing time and see what happens." Marcus Reid had been recruited by many schools and certainly didn't come to Buffalo to redshirt as a qb. "Coach, if I wanted to sit out I could have gone somewhere better, I didn't come here to sit around and collect dust. Bottom line is I want to play." After a rather heated exchange, Marcus Reid the sophmore qb left angry that the coach's mind had not changed.

        Week 1: Temple vs. Buffalo

Hi Bull's fans and welcome to the start of the college football season for the Buffalo Bulls. I'm your pre-game host Robert Johnson for the 2006 season. This year looks like another rocky one for new coach Don MacArthur. They have decided to redshirt the only guy that seems to give the Bulls an advantage this year in quarterback Marcus Reid. The move was not only highly criticized by the local press, but from what we are hearing is also criticized among players. The keys to today's games are, for the home team Bulls, stop Temple's running back. With a weak quarterbacking corps Temple looks to use the run. How the Buffalo defense handles this is the key to the game. On offense the key is passing. How will Buffalo's quarterbacks do now that Reid is redshirted and can the team stay together through the early rockiness caused by the coach's decision? Only time will tell sports fans. That's it for the pre-game show, enjoy the game tonight between the Temple Owls and the Buffalo Bulls.

Well folks, the Buffalo Bulls have matched their previous win total tonight with a 37-7 win over Temple. Buffalo used a run dominate offense to wear out the Temple defense. On defense Temple had little working after their star halfback Bryan Adkins went down early in the 2nd quarter with an ankle injury. The star player on offense for Buffalo was halfback John Smith who had 23 rushes for 105 yards. The Bulls passing game was stellar as Drew Jones was 18-26 for 306 yards and 2 touchdowns, one a 50 yard pass to tight end John Long. The other touchdown pass was to wideout Ryan Johnson who hauled in a pass and ran to the endzone for a 58 yard gain seconds before half time.

For Temple their pass game was rather ineffective after halftime as their running game struggled to get going. Chris Herron for Temple was 16-26, throwing for 150 yards.

Manning defense for Buffalo was left end Chris Minocchi who had 4 tackles, one sack and 2 forced fumbles. For the Owls, their defense was led by outside linebacker Jacob Coleman who had 9 tackles, 4 for loss, and 2 sacks.

That's all for this week fans, tune in Monday for the Buffalo press conference with coach Don MacArthur. From Buffalo, your final score is Buffalo 37, Temple 7.
