New York Giants (Madden 2007)
This dynasty will be played on Madden 2007. I don't want to get into an NCAA one because then I'd have to juggle both and I want to make one fantastic thread/page. So, this is it.Last edited by Dylanis; 07-30-2006, 05:45 AM.Tags: None -

Giants Low-Key Offseason May Be Just What the Doctor Ordered
New Jersey (AP) -- New York is a fast paced town -- somebody can go from unknown to celebrity overnight in the city that never sleeps. Athletes can become heroes on great performances and can be roasted for losing the big game. All in all, New York is a serious town that really folllows everyones every move. The Giants had a relatively low-key offseason, but they may have done just enough to get them a step further than last year.
Last season, the New York Giants season was plagued with problems at the linebacker position. A stellar unit begin the season, when the linebacking team went down for playoff time, the team had to turn to their young backups. The Giants came around this offseason to fix their whole, adding depth to the position by signing three-time Pro Bowler LaVar Arrington. Arrington, one of the NFL’s most dynamic defensive players, was the Giants’ high-profile offseason acquisition. He signed with the Giants in April and has impressed his colleagues with strong work ethic and a great personality.
LaVar Arrington could very well prove to be the single best acquisition in this year’s free-agent market
“You know I’ve been around a lot of good players, some of the greats, some of the best that have ever played the game," said Arrington. "So in comparison I think we have a whole lot of talent on this defense and on this team. So, I’m really excited.”
According to some analysts, the Giants’ signing of LaVar Arrington could very well prove to be the single best acquisition in this year’s free-agent market. Vic Carucci says "Arrington means much more to the Giants than a plug for the huge hole they had had at weak-side linebacker. In joining ends Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora, and middle linebacker Antonio Pierce, he completes what could very well be the most dominant defensive front in the league. When healthy and focused, Arrington is capable of taking over a game."
The Giants went into the draft with an optimistic look, and it may have been to optomistic as they went ahead and made some risky choices. With the last pick in the first round, the Giants selected Mathias Kiwanuka, a defensive end out of Boston College. Scouts all agree that Kiwanuka has great potential, but he joined a unit that is already filled with one of the most dominant defensive lines of all time, stacked with Pro Bowlers Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. On the good side, he can serve primarily as a situational pass rusher for the Giants while he grows into a more experienced player.
In the second round, the Giants took what was clearly their best pick in the draft when selected wide reciever Sinorice Moss, the small but fast brother to fellow-reciever Santana Moss. He will definetly compete for the third wide reciever slot, as well as compete for the job of a return specialist, something his brother has excelled at.
The team wrapped up their draft by selecting linebacker Gerris Wilkinson, in the third round, offensive tackle Guy Whimper and defensive tackle Barry Cofield in the fourth, and then ended the second day taking two more defensive players.
Rounding out the offseason was the Giants' additions to their secondary. Veteran cornerback Sam Madison and promising safety Will Demps joined New York this offseason. Demps is a speedy and powerful, and is supposed to be a great upgrade to the team. With the departure of Will Allen to the Dolphins, Sam Madison should step in and easily fill the average shoes Allen left.
"I think we've fielded a good team," said Giants Tight End Jeremey Shockey. "We had a strong offseason. We got Lavar [Arrington] and we got some really good draft picks. I'm really happy about what I think we can do."
Eli Manning's expected progress at quarterback and an upgraded defense with LaVar Arrington and Sam Madison will really give the Giants another great run towards the Super Bowl.Last edited by Dylanis; 07-30-2006, 05:48 AM. -
Re: New York Giants (Madden 2007)
NFC East Offseason Review
New Jersey (AP) -- We've already covered the ins-and-outs of the New York Giants offseason, but what about the rest of their division. Thanks to major moves made by rival NFC East teams, the Giants look like they will have some stiff competition come football season.
The Cowboys have not won a single playoff game in 9 years, but veteran coach Bill Parcells and owner Jerry Jones added a fine amount of talent as the seek to end the streak. The first major addition to the Cowboys was the signing of former-Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt. Vanderjagt, one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL, will try to help a team that lost three games primarily thanks to poor field goal kicking.
If anybody can deal with outrageous behavior from Terrell Owens [right], it will be Bill Parcells [left]
The other main addition to the team, possibly the most notable acquisition of the whole offseason, was that of Terrell Owens. Owens is possibly the most dynamic receiver in the NFL, and his strong command of the playing field will help free up other teammates in the passing game.
Dallas has worked on improving their line this offseason as they hope to give quarterback Drew Bledsoe more time to find Owens, as well as others open. Owens will lok to play a full 16 games for the first time since 2003, his last season playing in San Francisco.
Terrell Owens left Philadelphia after a bit of controversy, and fans were glad to see his behavior go. However, they'll miss his on-field presence. No longer can Donovan McNabb and the Eagles look downfield for Owens, and even worse is that they failed to fill his hole this offseason.
Donovan McNabb's efforts to trade for wide receiver Javon Walker or sign a high-profile free agent were all for naught as the Philadelphia Front Office did neither. Former-Texan Jabor Gaffney and rookie Jason Avant won't do much to help the receiving unit that lost one of the best receivers in the NFL.
Darren Howard will suit up for the Eagles
On a positive for the Eagles, the additions of Darren Howard and rookie Brodick Bunkley will improve a once-weak defensive line, so weak that it was considered possibly the worst in the league.
The Redskins lost pro-bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington to the Giants, but did rebound by signing cornerback Kenny Wright. Wright started every game for Jacksonville last year, proving that he could be a solid, durable part of the Washington secondary.
"Wright will really help our defense," said coach Joe Gibbs, who will be embarking into his 23rd year in the NFL. ""He'll especially help with our Nickel [formation]."
The other major signing for Washington was that of Antwan Randle El, who will be a great compliment to Santana Moss in the receiving unit. The exceptionally quick former-Steeler plants to help out Washington and try to dethrone the Giants from the top of the division.
All in all, the Giants have some new, but hard competition in the division -- only time will tell what team comes out on top of one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL.Comment

Re: New York Giants (Madden 2007)
Mailbag #1
Do you think Sinorice Moss, given the chance, will excel in New York and take pressure off Shockey? -- Reppaken
Well, let's take a look here. The main wide receiver slots will be filled by Plaxico Burress, who caught 76 passes last year, and veteran Amani Toomer, who scored 7 touchdowns last year. These two wide receivers are already taking a great amount of pressure of Shockey, who was still able to catch 65 passes for nearly 900 yards last season.
If everything goes as last year, as it looks like it will, Burress, Shockey, and Toomer will be Eli Manning's main targets, while star runningback Tiki Barber will also be in the mix.
Moss will fight for the spot as the third wide receiver on the team, in hopes to be the fifth target for Manning. He'll be competing with Tim Carter and David Tyree. Carter was picked by the Giants in 20002, Tyree in 2003. On the positive for Carter, he has excellent strength for his size and outstanding body control. However, he is raw as a receiver and nowhere near polished as a route runner. Tyree has only caught 15 passes in the last two years and it seems as though Carter does have an edge on him.
Sinorcie Moss
So now, the question really leads to whether Moss will get the slot as the third wide receiver. Moss may get a shot, as it seems that Carter is not set in the third spot, and the Giants don't have a very optimistic look on Tyree. Moss is definitely going to get a shot this year, Tom Coughlin has already hinted at it.
You'll also see Moss in the punt returning game. Like his older brother, Santana Moss, Sinorice has a talent for running back punts, and he very well may be one of the best in the league in a few years.
Moss could be the deep threat the Giants' offense needs, an impact player on special teams, and in three-receiver sets. Moss won't have much of a chnace to excel this season, but will begin the steps to fill a key role in the future.
Thanks for the question Reppaken.
