2006 Yankees Playoff Run (MVP 05 PC)

I was doing a season, but I got tired of it and just simulated to the playoffs. I'll probably do multiple years, just playing the playoffs if I make it. The Yankees won 95 games, winning the wild card.

We made a few moves during the season, and the lineup and rotation for the playoffs will look like this:

    CF Johnny Damon
    SS Derek Jeter
    1B Nick Johnson
    3B Alex Rodriguez
    LF Hideki Matsui
    DH Jason Giambi
    C Jorge Posada
    2B Robinson Cano
    RF Melky Cabrera

    Mike Mussina
    Mike Hampton
    Randy Johnson
    Chien Ming Wang

    Playoff Bracket is:
    Boston vs. Texas
    Chicago vs. New York
    Philadelphia vs. San Diego
    Milwaukee vs. New York

    Game 1 coming soon.

      Yup

      Game 1 at CWS
      Jose Contreras vs. Mike Mussina

Jose Contreras set the tone early against his former team in this one, striking out the side in the top of the first inning. The White Sox kept it going in the bottom of the first, getting 4 hits off Mussina, the big blow a 2 run double by Jim Thome, giving the Sox a 2-0 first inning lead. Contreras continued to dominate the early innings, carrying a no hitter into the 5th. With 1 out, it was broken up by Hideki Matsui. After a Giambi strike out, Jorge Posada tied the game with an opposite field 2 run homerun. The Yankees struck again in the top of the 7th. After an Alex Rodriguez double, Matsui drove him in with an opposite field single, giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Joe Torre then turned it over to the bullpen. After Scott Proctor pitched a perfect 7th, Octavio Dotel and Mike Myers combined for a perfect 8th. In the 9th Mariano Rivera took over. After back to back strikeouts he surrendered an infield single to Joe Crede. Rivera came back to get Juan Uribe to fly out to right, shutting the door as the Yankees took game 1 3-2.

      W- Mike Mussina (1-0)
      6 innings 7 hits 2 runs 1 K 1 BB
      L- Jose Contreras (0-1)
      7.1 innings 8 hits 3 runs 6 K's 1 BB

        Game 2 at CWS
        Mark Buehrle vs. Mike Hampton

Mike Hampton outdueled Mark Buehrle in this one, leading the Yankees to a 2-1 victory, and a commanding 2-0 series lead. The Yankees struck first in the 4th inning on an RBI single by Hideki Matsui. They scored again in the 7th on a solo homerun by Alex Rodriguez. That was all Mike Hampton would need. He was brilliant for 8.1 innings, pitching shutout ball. Then with one out in the 9th Darin Erstad hit a solo homerun, cutting the Yankees lead to 2-1. Torre then handed the ball to Rivera. Rivera got off to a rocky start, surrendering a double to the red hot Joe Crede. But Mariano fought back, striking out Paul Konerko. He then intentionally walked Jim Thome to face Jermaine Dye, and struck him out with a high fastball to save the game.

        W-Mike Hampton (1-0)
        8.1 innings 6 hits 1 run 5 K's
        L- Mark Buerhle (0-1)
        9 innings 4 hits 2 runs 2 K's 2 BB's
        S- Mariano Rivera (2)

        Key Stats:
        Alex Rodriguez 1-3 1 homerun
        Hideki Matsui 1-3 1 RBI
        Joe Crede 2-4

        Yankees lead 2-0

        Other Series:
        Boston and Texas tied 1-1

          Game 3 vs. CWS
          Freddy Garcia vs. Randy Johnson

The Yankees got the scoring started early in this one. After a leadoff single by Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter hit an RBI double to the gap, and the Yankees had a 1-0 first inning lead. That is all the Yankees pitching would need. Randy Johnson threw 6.2 shutout innings, striking out 4. In the 6th, the Yankees added an insurance run on an RBI Nick Johnson single. Proctor, Myers, and Dotel combined to get the final out of the 7th and pitch the 8th, and the Yankees handed a 2-0 lead over to Rivera. Rivera wasn't as dominant as usual, as he allowed runners to reach first and 2nd with only 1 out, but he settled down and got the next 2 batters to pop out, completing the sweep.

          W- Randy Johnson (1-0)
          6.2 innings 6 hits 4 K's
          L- Freddy Garcia (0-1)

They scored again in the 3rd on a Jason Varitek groundout, in the 5th on a Varitek single, and in the 8th on a Varitek solo homerun. Neither side could get any quality pitching in this one. Hampton struggled through 5 innings giving up 3 runs, while Beckett gave up 6 in 6.2 innings. Carl Pavano came out of the bullpen for the Yankees and couldn't stop the bleeding, surrendering 5 runs in 2 innings, as the Red Sox went on to a 9-7 victory, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.

                      Game 4 vs. Boston
Matt Clement vs. Chien Ming Wang

Facing elimination, the Yankees pulled out all the stops in this one. Wang struggled early, giving up 3 first inning runs. He then gave up a solo homer in the 3rd, and the Yankees turned to Mike Mussina on 3 days rest. Mussina stopped the bleeding, and the Yankees came back to tie the game at 4. They would eventually take an 8-5 lead until the 8th inning when Coco Crisp took Dotel deep to tie the game at 8. In the 9th, it looked like Boston was going to win it as Mark Loretta hit a deep fly to left for an apparant 3 run homer. But Hideki Matsui leaped at the wall and brought it back. Then, in the bottom of the 10th, Johnny Damon hit a 1 out hustle double. After an intentional walk to Jeter, Nick Johnson singled to right. Trot Nixon bobbled the ball, allowing Damon to score for a 9-8 win.

                        Game 5 vs. Boston
                        Curt Schilling vs. Randy Johnson

Early on this pitchers duel lived up to the hype. In the 3rd inning, with runners on first and 3rd with one out and J.T. Snow at the plate the Johnson got the double play ball he needed to get out of the inning. Cano's throw was off line however, and the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead. In the 5th inning, the Yankees jumped on top with a 2 run homer by Alex Rodriguez. That lead would hold up through 8 innings as Johnson dominated. In the bottom of the 8th, Arod added insurance with a 3 run homer, making it 5-1. That would end up being the final, as Proctor came on to get the last 2 outs of the game, sending the series back to Boston.

Red Sox struck first in this one in the bottom of the 5th on a Tony Graffanino solo homer into the Monster seats. In the top of the 7th, the Yankees answered back. Nick Johnson and Jason Giambi both had rbi doubles, giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead. That didn't last long however, as in the bottom of the 7th Manny Ramirez hit a 2 run double into the gap, giving the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. The Yankees would threaten in the bottom of the 8th putting runners on the corners, but Johnson popped out to end the inning. In the 9th, Keith Foulke came on and was brilliant, closing it out and sending the Red Sox back to the world series for a 1986 rematch with the Mets.

                          W- David Wells (1-1)
