    Boston Bruins Advance

Last night I capped off the comeback against the Sabres with 4 wins in a row winning 4 games to 2. Ryan Miller was incredible throughout the entire series.

In last nights game the Sabres jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a sweet goal by Dimitri Kalinin. Afiniganov fed him from the corner, he strafed to his right and fired a rocket over Tim Thomas' glove. The period ended with only that goal being scored.
In the 2nd I got a real crappy goal to tie the game up. Guerin threw the puck on net which Miller stopped but the rebound came out to Brian Campbell. He tried to sweep the puck out of the crease but hit his defensive partner in the leg and the puck deflected in.
But the Sabres got that one back a minute later when Derek Roy slid home a nice fat rebound after some horrible defensive coverage on my part.
I had many chances in the 2nd, outshooting the Sabres 14-9 in that period but we would go to the 2nd intermission down 2-1.
Both teams came out flying in the 3rd with both goalies making some excellent stops. I was starting to sweat because there was less than 5 minutes left and I had thrown everything at Miller who continued to make highlight reel saves. One of them was on a great chance by Kessel. He got in alone made a great deke to his forehand but Miller recovered and dove across the crease to make a spectacular save on a sure goal.
But the combo of Bergeron and Guerin (deadline deal) would not be contained forever. I got the puck in deep and Brad Boyes was able to recover the puck in the corner. He cycled it to Bergeron who skated back near the blueline. Guerin broke for the net and I saw an open seam to hit him with a pass, which I did. Receiving the pass so close to the net I had to make a quick move to my forehand and then my backhand and roofed the puck under the crossbar. It was a phenomanal goal. I watched it in replay about a dozen times (to which my wife labeled me a geek for doing so).
The game would stay 2-2 despite some great efforts by the Sabres. Afiniganov was a beast this entire series (finished with 5G, 3A) and he made me nervous everytime he touched the puck in my end.
However, inOT I got another crappy goal in the first minute off of a Bergeron shot. The puck, again, deflected off of a couple of legs and skates and slid past Miller for the series winner. Just like a real playoff OT goal.

It was cool to see my teammates jumping on each other and then shaking hands with the opposing teams. I thought it was really cool to have some of the players even talk to each other during the handshakes. It was a nice touch added by EA. Good job.

Now I'm on to play the Senators. Should be a good matchup.

One other thing on how eerily realistic this game is. I checked around the league to see where the other series' were at and the Wings got upset in the 1st round to Vancouver in 5 games. How many goals did Datsyuk score? 0. He had only 1 assist in the 5 games and was a -4. It's spooky how real to life this game can be.

P.S. Bill Guerin has been a beast for me in the playoffs. He scored 7 goals and 1 assist in the 6 game series.

The playoffs in dynasty in this game are awesome, nice work beating the Sabres. What seed are the Sens? Who else is still in the hunt for the Cup besides the Sens, Vancouver, and you?

Hey Money, sounds like a great dynasty. What sliders are you using?

Sorry about the late reply. I've been using default Allstar sliders the whole season and all of the Buffalo series.
However, I switched to Superstar (default) for game 2 against the Senators, which I'm up 2-1 after 3 games.
In the other series, Calgary leads Vancouver 3-0, Phoenix leads Colorado 3-0 and Florida is leading the Pens 2-1.
Joe Sakic, despite his team facing elimination, has been incredible for the Avs leading them and the league in playoff scoring with 8g,10a in 10 games. Sidney Crosby, on the other hand, has struggled with only 8 points in 9 playoff games. He still leads the Pens but it appears that team has been struggling offensively so far in the postseason. He also had a rough regular season being injured for almost 30 games. He still managed to record over 80 points though in only 50+ games.

In my latest game against the Sens I was down 2-0 after the first 10 minutes with goals by Heatley and Spezza. Spezza's was a very nice, top shelf goal. I was scrambling with my dman and Alfredsson found him all alone in the slot for the easy marker. I was able to cut that lead to 2-1 with a goal by Guerin.
It was pretty late last night so I don't remember who scored most of the goals but I do remember that Marc Savard had an unbelievable goal where he deked around two defensman and the goalie and made the water bottle dance to put me up 5-4 with a little over 2 minutes remaining. But then I got into penalty trouble and was facing a 5-3 for the remainder of the game. Much to the crowd's delight I was able to kill off the one penalty but then Joe Corvo let an absolute rocket go from the point that beat Thomas's glove hand clean to tie up the game with 1:08 left. 9 seconds later, Antoine Vermette races pass my dman and fires a high shot over Thomas's blocker to take the lead. I was heart broken and so was the crowd. I was unable to sustain any offensive zone pressure and the Sens escaped a 3-0 Bruins lead in the series.
The worst of it all was that Bill Guerin went down with a foot injury and will be out for 3 weeks! At least I got Marco Sturm back. But losing my top goal scorer will be tough.

I'm thinking about slowly sprinkling in some of PM's sliders, but right now I'm getting some good scores and the games have been very competitive.

          Re: Boston Bruins Advance

While the Bruins have jumped to a 3 games to 1 lead over the Senators the Avalanche and Canucks have been swept by Phoenix and Calgary respectively.

The Bruins needed OT to distance themselves in this series. Jason Spezza almost singlehandedly tied the series up scoring two goals, including the tieing goal midway through the 3rd period. But Marco Sturms OT marker 3 minutes into the extra stanza had the visiting Senators hanging their heads low on their way back to the capital of Canada.

Jason York got the boys from Beantown on the board first with a rocket from the point 6 minutes into the opening period. The Bruins got themselves into penalty trouble and it was all they could do to keep the young Sens off the board for the remainder of the period.
In the 2nd, more penalty trouble would plague the home team but this time the Sens would capitalise with the man advantage. With Zdeno Chara off for elbowing, Dany Heatley drove the puck in deep around Paul Mara and then fed a perfect pass to Jason Spezza, who managed to sneak behind Jason York, for the easy tap-in.
The Bruins would have their chances on the powerplay as well but Martin Gerber was equal to the task and shut the door on every Bruins opportunity to keep the score tied going into the 3rd period.

Early in the third, Antoine Vermette was called for highsticking and the Bruins took advantage. Bergeron, Savard and Murray cycled the puck down low hoping to get a player open. Bergeron fed the puck over to Savard who saw Murray streaking to the net. Feeding the perfect pass, Murray made a quick move in close that had Gerber commiting and then roofed the puck into a wide open topshelf.
The Bruins would take the play to the Senators for much of the 3rd period and looked to be in cruise control on route to an easy Game 4 victory. But Jason Spezza had other plans. Grabbing a loose puck near the centre line he sped into the Bruins zone towards Zdeno Chara. Normally this would be a matchup favouring the Bruins, but Spezza must have learned a thing or two from all the years he scrimmaged against the giant Slovakian. Spezza made a nifty inside-outside move that had Chara looking for his jock strap and then snapped in a hard wrister through Tim Thomas' legs to the game up at 2 goals apiece. With a little over 5 minutes remaining in the third the Senators buzzed around the Boston net but Thomas made countless saves assuring overtime.

It was in that extra frame that Marco Sturm would take a perfect pass from a rushing Jason York to give the Bruins a commanding three games to one lead in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

The Bruins look to finish the series tonight in Ottawa.

            Re: Boston Bruins Advance

The Bruins failed to do what Florida did last night - finish their series.

The Senators came out flying and Tim Thomas shouldn't have come out at all. With their first 5 shots the Senators built themselves a 3-0 lead that Boston couldn't overcome.
Toivenen replaced the Michigan native and gave up only 1 goal on 30 shots. The Bruins staged a minor comeback in the 3rd when they scored 2 quick goals but a failed PP with 9:48 to go would prove costly as they head back to Boston for game 6.

Once again the line of Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson caused my boys headaches all game with both Alfredsson and Spezza scoring. And Chara coughed up the puck to Schaefer, right in front of Toivenen, and he made no mistake burying their 4th goal.

The only bright spots was that Sturm has gotten his legs back after being out for so long snapping a nice topshelf goal at the start of the 3rd. I don't think it was a coincidence that he played better once he was moved back to the top line. Glen Murray also bent the twine again with a nice backhand goal in tight on Gerber.

Phil Kessel continues to struggle despite playing on the top two lines the last 3 games. He only has 1 goal in his last 7. The Bruins are hoping that he can regain his form as one of the top rookies in the league over the course of the season.

              Re: Boston Bruins Advance

Well the Ottawa Senators were able to complete the comeback, roaring back from a 3 games to 1 defecit against my Bruins.

My offense did not play well at all but at the same time Tim Thomas played horribly down the stretch. So much so, that Toivenen got the start in game 7.
In both games 5 and 6 Thomas let in 3 goals on the first handful of shots.

The absence of the injured Guerin also seemed to take the wind out of the offensive sails for Boston. Murray tried to pick up the slack but Marc Savard and Brad Boyes were basically invisible during the semi-finals.

Ottawa then defeated the Panthers and Calgary knocked out Phoenix for an all Canadian showdown. Calgary would prevail in 5 games and I'm sure it's only because the Bruins took most of the fight out of the Sens.

So now I'm on to off season moves. I'll be doing the draft shortly but I have many big decisions to make. I have a number of UFA's and RFA's. A player like Axelsson might be cut free because of the Bruins lack of cap space. Hopefully my scouts have done a good job and we'll find some replacements in the draft.
