    A Year in College Football

Disclaimer: I'm stealing this idea (with permission) from another site's board. This is the origin link if you'd like to see: http://fof.sportplanet.gamespy.com/f...ad.php?t=56294

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Dynasty will cover at least a year in college football, as simmed by BBCF (greydogsoftware.com), one of the best pure football sim games made. I will not directly control any particular team, rather post overviews and information about the year in general.

If there's a specific team you want me to post about, lemme know and I'll be happy to add it. Otherwise, we're talking mostly about Top 25 and Major Conferences. I'll post game results, Heisman/major award candidates and stats.

    THE 2007 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON
    ------------------------------------------------

Oklahoma takes the top spot in the first 2007 Preseason Media Poll, led by the strength of their defense, with Safety Karl Putzier leading a very tough secondary. Junior running back Ron Moore is expected to get a large number of the carries for the team.

The Wolverines of Michigan are a concensus #2 in both the media and the coaches poll, and the reason is the best linebacker corps in the nation. It's a deep group, and Michigan has switched to a 3-4 defense to best take advantage of the depth. Juniors Billy Richardson and Monroe Johnson, and seniors Floyd Moore and David Beer lead an aggressive defense that will give opposite quarterbacks fits.

Texas runs an 4-6 on defense, and boasts the best defensive tackle in the nation with senior Ronnie Sims, but the player Longhorn fans are talking about is Heisman candidate Art Batteaux. A junior, Batteaux has a strong arm, but an accuracy that NFL scouts are drooling over.

GAMES OF THE WEEK -- Week 1

    #17 Kansas State v. Syracuse

Kansas State is favored by 7, but the real test is if the Syracuse secondary can stand up to outstanding wide receiver Mark Detmer.

No, they're created by the game.

            Week 1 Results

            MINNESOTA UPSETS HOKIES 31-30

After being down 31-7 at the end of the first half, the #22 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies saw their amazing comeback end on a blocked extra point with 2:08 left in the game, as the Hokies fall

In the first quarter, Minnesota got off to an early lead with a run by running back Basil Reynolds from 5 yards out. On the ensuing kickoff, wideout Gary Nock from Minnesota recovers a fumble, and a play later catches the touchdown pass from Mike Atkins to go ahead 14-0.

After a missed field goal by Tech, Marlion Morris kicks a 32 yard field goal for the Golden Gophers to take a 17-0 lead with over 3 minutes left in the first quarter.

With 30 seconds left in the first quarter, the Hokies get on the scoreboard with a 2 yard scamper by Pete Carlyle to make it a 10 point game at 17-7.

Minnesota responded very quicked early in the second quarter with Mike Adkins' second touchdown pass, this one to junior wideout Travis Murphy to go up 24-7.

With Mike Adkins knocked out of the game with a broken clavicle, Gary Nock caught his second touchdown pass, this one from backup quarterback Jerry Taylor, and go into the locker room with the game well in hand, 31-7. But Viriginia Tech was not done.

In the third quarter after exchanging punts, Mike Clarke from Virginia Tech completed a clutch 35 yard pass to Wes Lewis, and Minnesota tacked on a 15 yard pass interference call to take it to the 7 yard line, but only manages a field goal, making the score 31-10.

The Virginia Tech turned up the heat in the second half, allowing less than 100 yards from the Minnesota offense. This was helped by increased pressure on Jerry Taylor of Minnesota.

With 12 minutes left in the game, Virginia Tech made it a little closer with a 15 yard rumble by running back Lawrence Von Oelhoffen to make it 31-17, and 6 minutes later, Mike Clarke threw a 15 yard laser to Harper Boulware to bring it within a touchdown, 31-17.

After a Taylor interception, Tech gets the back with 3:03 left on the Minnesota 32 yard line. Two plays later, the comeback is seemingly complete with another touchdown pass from Adkins, this one a 9 yarder to Kenyatta Daughtery. But the Minnesota fans in attendance celebrated when linebacker Joe Harris blocks the low extra point attempt by Dee Gilliam. Minnesota was able to run out the remaining two minutes to seal the win.

Minnesota had 416 yards offense, while the Hokies had 423, mostly in the second half. VT's Mike Clarke was 27 for 36, 326 yards and two touchdowns, while Mike Adkins went 10 for 13 and 153 yards with two touchdowns, all in the first half. Basil Reynolds of Minnesota rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Minnesota travels next week to visit #3 Texas, while Virginia Tech goes coastal on their second road game in a row, this one against UCLA.
