Boston (AP)-- The Sox completed their sweep of the Angels here today with a 4-3 victory behind Dice-K's 3rd victory of the season. The Sox offense all came in the 4th inning as they scored all their 4 runs there. Drew had a 2 run homer, Manny an RBI double, and Lugo scored on a throwing error on an Ortiz single to left. The Angels wouldn't make it easy on the Red Sox as Napoli drove in a run in the 6th bringing the score to 4-1. Joel Pineiro would come on in the 9th to finish the game off and finished it in Bob Wickman-esque style allowing 3 hits and 2 runs on a 2 RBI double by Garret Anderson but got out of the jam with an ugly save, his 6th of the season.

The Red Sox will travel to Toronto to face the Blue Jays next.

April 17th: Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5

Toronto (AP)-- The Red Sox seem to have a habit of not making things easy on themselves lately, but they did get the job done once again here tonight on the road in Toronto a 6-5 victory. The player of the game, however, was Alex Rios who robbed Manny Ramirez not once, but twice of home runs, saving, count 'em, 7 RBI for Chacin and company. The Red Sox got off to an early 2 run lead in the 3rd inning. The Jays would take a lead of their own, scoring 1 run in the 4th then 2 in the 6th after Papelbon loaded the bases up, walked in a run and gave up an RBI single making it 3-2 Toronto after 6. After a scoreless 7th, the Sox would jump on Jays reliever Jason Frasor for 3 runs in the 8th off the bats of Willy Mo Pena and Mike Lowell. Pena drove in 2 with an RBI double, and Lowell brought Pena in to score to make it 5-3 Boston. Toronto would answer back in the bottom of the 8th touching up Timlin for 2 runs to tie it up at 5-5. Julio Lugo drove in the go ahead run for his eventual 2nd game winning RBI of the season. Pineiro pitched a 1-2-3 9th to pick up the save, his 7th.

Toronto (AP)-- John Thomson knew he might have issues adjusting to facing American League lineups being the junkballer that he is. Well, the Red Sox gave him a rude awakening chasing him from the game in just 2/3 of an inning as he gave up 6 runs on 5 hits including a 2 RBI double by Willy Mo Pena and a grand slam by none other than Doug Mirabelli to get the Sox off to a 6-0 lead after the 1st inning. The Sox would add 4 more runs and wind up winning 10-6 on the evening. The bright post for the Jays was they got their fair share of hits of Wake, but were unable to catch the Sox, despite putting up 6 runs and 14 hits of their own. The final game of this series features Roy Halladay vs. Curt Schilling before the Sox travel home to face the Yankees.

Toronto (AP)-- Roy Halladay left today's game in the 5th inning after taking a line drive off the shin, which basically summed up the series for the Jays. It was like taking a line drive off the shin. The Sox won again this afternoon with a 4-2 victory, with all 4 runs coming in the 4th inning on an RBI double by Crisp, 2 run homer by Ortiz, and solo homer by Mike Lowell. Curt Schilling was dominant for the vast majority of the game before giving up 2 runs in the 9th trying to go for the complete game. He lasted 8.1 IP gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and Kd 8. Donnelly came in with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out, and got Overbay to ground into a game ending double play for the victory.

Boston (AP)-- What started as a pitcher's duel between the two heated rivals, quickly turned ugly for the Yankees as the Sox pounded on their relief pitching en route to an 8-2 victory. The Sox initially took a 4-1 lead in the 6th inning finally getting to Wang with RBI from J.D. Drew, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek. The Yankees got one back in the top of the 7th off of Tavarez, but the Sox would put the nail in the coffin scoring 4 runs off of reliever Scott Proctor in the 8th inning. Timlin pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th to seal the victory.

Boston (AP)-- Are the Red Sox unstoppable? It sure does seem like it. (Note: I'm getting incredibly frustrated with the CPUs inability to score run). Daisuke Matsuzaka picked up his 4th win of the season, despite being hit relatively frequently. Dice-K gave up 10 hits over 7 innings but was able to work himself out of many a jam as the Yankees stranded 8 baserunners while he was on the hill. Most notable was A-Rod who struckout twice with 2 outs and 2 on. The offense was provided by a sacrifice fly from Kevin Youkilis, RBI groundout for Ortiz, 2 run homer from Manny, and an RBI double for Mike Lowell who continues to hit like a man possessed. The Yankees scored 1 run in both the 2nd and 3rd inning but were unable to score the rest of the way.

Boston (AP)- The Red Sox have finally done something they haven't done all year, and that's lose two games in a row. The Sox "fell" to 18-3 on the season in a 10-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Sox ace Curt Schilling lasted just one inning as the Jays batted around on him to the tune of 8 runs on 7 hits, including 2 home runs by Vernon Wells and a home run by Troy Glaus. Wells launched Schilling's first pitch onto Landsdowne, then drove a 3 run homer into the Sox bullpen later in the same inning. The Blue Jays added 2 more runs to their total in the 8th on solo homers by Adam Lind and Troy Glaus. The Jays totaled 5 homers in the game, which was all the Sox had given up total in the first 20 games of the season. The Jays pitching was fairly dominant outside of a 2 run homer by Manny Ramirez in the bottom of the 1st, as they recorded 14 Ks and held the Sox offense in check.

Baltimore (AP)- Yes, that's right folks the Sox have lost three straight after an 18-1 start to the season. Jon Lester, like Schilling yesterday, struggled earlier blowing an early 2-0 lead for the Sox. Ramon Hernandez was the big bat for the O's today homering twice and driving in 4 runs. Tejada was also 3/4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI in the Orioles victory. The Red Sox would threaten late in the game trailing 7-3 heading into the 9th. They would load the bases up with 1 out. Manny Ramirez who had the day off pinch hit for Crisp and hit an RBI single to make it 7-4. Hinske, who pinch hit for Pedroia Kd, and Julio Lugo was robbed of what looked to be a bases clearing double on an outstanding diving catch by Nick Markakis in right field to end the ballgame. Benson picked up the win for the O's.

Baltimore (AP)-- It was just a matter of time before the Sox bullpen would implode. Joel Pineiro finally was the first one to go, blowing a save opportunity in the 9th, and giving up a walkoff base hit in the 10th to give the Sox their 4th straight loss in a 9-8 game here tonight. The Sox jumped on Trachsel early knocking him out of the game before he could even record an out scoring 4 runs in the 1st. Trachsel's location was off all the way through the lineup as he gave up 2 HRs and 2 walks in the inning. After 7 innings the Sox would lead 8-3, but that lead would quickly evaporate. Dice-K struggled in the 7th giving up 3 runs to make the lead 8-6. Donnelly would give up 1 run in the 8th before working out of a bases loaded jam to make the score 8-7 before Pineiro blew it in the 9th.

Boston (AP)-- Willy Mo Pena found out before today's game that with Francona's new lineup changes he has a chance to be the team's every day left fielder. He took full advantage of this opportunity and came through big time in the Red Sox 9-6 win over the New York Yankees. Pena belted a grand slam off Andy Pettitte in the 5th inning as part of a 6 run 5th inning that would put the Sox over the top.

Two injuries for the Sox. Papelbon's been placed on the 15 day DL with a strained ACL he sustained in the 2nd inning and J.D. Drew is day to day with a sprained ankle he sustained making a jumping catch into the wall.

New York (AP)-- Question. What is going to be likely cause of a lot of the Red Sox losses this season? Answer. Terrible bullpen work. This was the case once again today as a solid outing from Tim Wakefield was wasted by the bullpen who inherited a 6-2 Red Sox lead after 7 innings. That lead quickly disappeared as the bullpen managed to give up 5 runs on 7 hits in 1 1/3 IP to blow the lead and hand the victory to the Yankees. Hansen got blasted in the 8th to the tune of 3 runs on 4 hits, including a homer by Alex Rodriguez. Pineiro's first pitch in his save opportunity got away from him and hit the leadoff man and he was promptly ejected in the 9th with the Sox up 6-5. Brendan Donnelly came in in relief and was welcomed by allowing the inherited runner to score, and gave up the game winning hit to Hideki Matsui. The Sox offense once again was led by Willy Mo Pena who has been on some kind of tear as of late. Willy Mo delivered 4 RBI on a home run and a double. He was 2/4 overall on the afternoon with 2 strikeouts.

New York (AP)-- No Manny, No Ortiz, No Victory. Francona gave both Manny and Ortiz a day off today, as Ortiz has been struggling mightily lately, and Manny was nursing one of his phantom injuries as the Yankees pounded out 15 hits and 6 runs in a 6-4 victory over the Sox to take the series 2-3 as. Curt Schilling was on the receiving end of another pounding, giving up 11 hits and 5 runs over 6 IP, striking out just 2. Devern Hansack pitched fairly well working himself out of a 2nd and 3rd jam with 1 out in the 7th, but gave up a solo homer to Damon in the 8th. Francona took the blame for that, however, as he did not intend to leave Devern out for more than 1 inning, but forgot to warm up another reliever. Yanks starter Carl Pavano lasted just 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits. Scott Proctor picked up the win in relief pitching 2 scoreless innings.
