    The Coaching Career of R.Mays (CH2k7 PS2)

    Morehead News
Eagles Hire Untested High School Coach

Morehead, KY - The Morehead State Eagles today announced the hiring of R.Mays to replace Kyle Macy as the head basketball coach. Coach Mays has zero college coaching experience, instead honing his craft at the high school level, where at his small Class A school, he's made five trips to the Kentucky All "A" Classic, won three district titles, and last year, led his school to their first ever trip to the Kentucky Sweet 16, advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Eagles may be making a bold move handing the keys of a Division I program to a high school coach, but this bold move could pay off. Mays comes from the Billy Donovan mold, and we all know what he's done at Florida, much to the disdain of Kentucky fans.

Well, it was doomed by lack of time to get the reports up (and other games getting into my que...Guitar Hero 2, Final Fantasy XII, MLB 07 The Show). I got too far ahead of my reports and so I quit posting. I kept playing though.

For the record, I coached them into the NCAAs that first season after winning 11 of our last 12 and destroying all comers in the OVC tourney. Got a #13 seed, drew Arkansas, hung with them for a half, and then got blitzed in the 2nd half.

Missed reporting, but instead of just giving a recap, I had a new idea for a new coach and new coach settings, so here we are.

“I was impressed with the way our freshman performed in the scrimmage. Dan Penick played his way into the starting lineup while Cecil Brown and Maze Stallworth proved they will be valuable off the bench. Cordaryl Ballard played his way into my doghouse and he’s going to have to prove to me that he can play Division I basketball as I have a policy of only redshirting freshman under scholarship. Speaking of that policy, Andreas Coleman needs a year to get acclimated to the college game. This rotation isn’t set in stone and is always open to shuffling.”

                Coach Mays Announces Lineup Changes

After the Eagles 66-56 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions, Coach Mays announced that there were going to be some changes made to the lineup.

"This is a point where you're trying to find that right combination of player to maximize the potential of your team. The quicker you find that combination, the better off you're team will be. If you enter conference play and you're still playing mix and match with the lineup, you've got problems."

The Eagles will go with a three guard look against the South Alabama Jaguars as freshman guard Cecil Brown will start in the place of freshman forward Dan Penick. Shaun Williams will move to center while Vincent Crutcher will move to power forward.

Also announced was that sophomore guard Cordaryl Ballard will suit up for the Eagles against the Jags. Junior guard Nikola Stojakovic has been moved to the reserve squad.

2k has never been good at getting the towns right on the players from the smaller schools. I just took them from the game. But I know he's from Radcliff, KY. I go to MSU.

Brandon Callahan led all scorers with 20 points as the Morehead State Eagles defeated the South Alabama Jaguars 73-70.

The Jaguars took a late one point lead, but Callahan hit two clutch free throws after drawing a foul while driving into the lane. The Jaguars were holding for the last shot, but the Eagles forced a turnover on a trap in the corner.

Brandon David collected a double-double tonight for the Jags, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
