Bravos Look for A New Streak in '07
Great group of youngsters ready to go the distance

The Braves look to party like it's '95

Atlanta, GA -- Last season the Braves dominance of the NL East division ended. The Mets believe this is their era. With many studs on their ball club they are a tough task to take down but the stingy youngsters down in the ATL don't want to share their division. This season the Braves look to make it 12 out of 13 seasons at the top of the NL East. The revamped bullpen should do its job and the guys in the lineup are sure to gather many hits. Lets see if the Braves of '07 can make their return to the top of the standings in the NL and ultimately win a World Series Championship!

      Opening Day Extras
      Braves win game, lose pitcher

      Braves 6, Phillies 3

Philadelphia, PA -- In a day where Craig Wilson was the man, there is other news that is much more important. John Smoltz came off the mound grimacing in pain with a pulled groin in the 7th inning after pitching 6 strong. After the game Smoltz said,"Well the pain is gonna be there, I guess I'll do what I can and if I can't do much I may have to go to the DL for a bit, something that I don't want to do." The Braves hope for their ace to recover quickly and be back to 100% quickly as possible. Kyle Davies may be brought up to start a couple of games with this injury to Smoltz. But other than the injury to Smoltz the Braves day went great, racking up 6 runs on 14 hits. After the Phillies came back to tie the game in the 8th the Braves scored 3 in the top of the 10th to get some cushion for Bob Wickman who came in to close the deal.

Damn, didn't take long for Smoltz to go down!

Hopefully he recovers quickly. I look forward to reading this, bro.

          Great News From Philly
Smoltz only to miss one start

The Braves are delighted that Smoltz' injury isn't serious

Philadelphia, PA -- The doctors say that John Smoltz is only out for a maximum of 7 days after pulling his groin in today's game. The Braves are glad to hear that Smoltz will not be sent to the 15 day disabled list and will only miss one start. Kyle Davies has been brought up by the Braves to make the start in place of Smoltz on his next scheduled start. When the news came out that Smoltz was only going to miss a week fellow teammate Craig Wilson said,"It's great that John isn't going to have to miss but one start and hopefully when he comes back I can support him again just like earlier today, it's a shame he couldn't get that win."

            Braves Win Again in Extras
            Same Score, Different Fashion

Jeff Francoeur drove in two runs and had 3 doubles on the day
            Braves 6, Phillies 3

Philadelphia, PA -- Today the Braves got 19 hits. They cruised right? Not so fast. The Phillies got only 4 hits through the first 6 innings off of Tim Hudson, 2 of the 4 being home runs. With a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th Flash Gordon came in for the save getting outs 1 and 2. After a single by Andruw Jones and a pair of doubles by Jeff Francoeur and Craig Wilson the score was knotted up and we were headed to extras. Going into the 12th the score was still tied at 3 but Chipper came through with a solo shot to dead center to push the Braves ahead for good. The Braves also tacked on two more for Wickman to have some cushion in the bottom of the 12th. Only 5 hits were surrendered by Atlanta and only 1 was given up after Hudson's exit in the 7th. That is 6 shutout, one-hit innings by the newly revamped Atlanta bullpen. The first two games couldn't have been sweeter for the Braves, beating their division rival twice in extras.

            WP: Mike Gonzalez (1-0) - IP, K

              Braves Get Rained Out
After half an inning the umps called it

Philadelphia, PA -- After the Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of yesterday's game and Chuck James struck out Jimmy Rollins to begin the bottom of the 1st the game was called due to rain. The game is set to be rescheduled at a later date, probably in the April 30-May 2 series with the Phillies. The Braves will now head home for a 3-game series against the defending NL East champions, the New York Mets.

                Loss Number 1
                Mets come to town swinging

David Wright went 5-5 with 2 HR's that killed Atlanta
                Mets 8, Braves 3

Atlanta, GA -- In the home opener for Atlanta it looked as if the bats would be swinging for them all day as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. In the 4th inning Chucky James was cruisng along until he hit a road block in the Mets batting order. The road blocks were David Wright and Carlos Delgado, going back-to-back to even up the score at 2. Little did Chucky know that Wright and Delgado would ruin his entire day. In the bottom of the 4th the Braves did score a run though going up by one but the Mets would take over from there scoring 6 more unanswered runs to win the game 8-3. Carlos Delgado and David Wright had a combined 6 RBI and they will definently haunt Chuck James for a while.

Renteria, McCann make errors to help Mets out

Delgado hit a 3-run blast in the 1st to set the tone
                  Mets 8, Braves 5

Atlanta, GA -- A 3-run homerun in the first was enough to rattle Mike Hampton into giving up 5 runs in his first appearence in a game since 2005. His ballclub did not want him to get this loss though. The Braves battled the entire game but did not come up with the hits that they needed. In the 7th inning the Braves seemed to be on the spur of a comeback when Chipper Jones was intentionally walked to load the bases for Andruw Jones who had already hit a homerun and a double. Jones proceded to ground into a double play to the third baseman 5-2-3 to end the threat and send the Braves back into the dugout heartbroken. A great hitting performance may have been put on by the Mets but there was a problem for the Braves. Fielding has been the backbone of this team in years past and to begin this year they are the worst fielding team in the MLB. Edgar Renteria already has 3 error in 4 games and he is looking to correct whatever mistake he has in his throwing motion. After the game Atlanta skipper Bobby Cox was available for comment saying, "Our club is gonna get our wins, it's too early to say that we are out of contention just because we lose games to that team, we have more than enough more games to beat them this season." In saying that the Braves will be at home tomorrow for the series finale wearing the Sunday alternates.

Report: Braves Andruw Jones expects to be traded
Braves gold glove centerfield wants out

Atlanta, GA -- After a home loss to the New York Mets Andruw Jones and Bobby Cox exchanged words and now ESPN has reported that Jones wants out of Atlanta by the trade deadline. When asked of this news Bobby Cox said that the team would handle this matter internally and that he never expected something like this from such a nice guy in Andruw Jones. This scuffle came after Chipper Jones was named team captain after the game. Andruw was not available for comment but Chipper had this to say, "I know he is not angry with me being named team captain, there has to be something else going on that nobody else knows about, we have done so much here in Atlanta together and I want to continue our tradition, but that's out of my hands now."

Atlanta, GA -- Mark Redman has had some rough seasons in the past and he was looking to have a better one this season going to a new team and all. Jose Reyes assured him that he would not though hitting a lead-off homerun to open up the game. Redman would also give up another in the second inning and would only last 4 and 2/3 innings in yesterdays game. In losing this game Redman said, "It's tough pitching against a team like that and both the guys that pitched before me can say the same, but we need to right this ship and get it going in the right direction. Right now we are headed the wrong way, the Royal way." These comments come from Redman who has been a member of the Kansas City Royals in the past and as you know they have not had too many winning seasons in recent memory. Oliver Perez of the Mets went 8 strong to provide the Mets with the win. Since the trade last season to get Perez this is the kind of pitching the Mets have been looking for from Perez and they hope to see more of it. Nothing else has been said about the report from ESPN about Andruw Jones and the Braves are hoping that it's not true; although, Andruw is in his contract year.

Andruw Jones, Ryan Langerhans, Lance Cormier Sent to Detroit in 6-Man Deal
Atlanta's longtime centerfielder gets what he wants

Atlanta, GA -- Atlanta took the day looking for offers to fulfil what they would need in their outfield to be a legit contender this year. After making several calls to a plethora of teams they came to terms with the Detroit Tigers. The 6-man deal sends Andruw Jones, Ryan Langerhans, and Lance Cormier to the Lions in exchange for Curtis Granderson, Joel Zumaya, and Craig Monroe. Braves skipper Bobby Cox was thrilled to see this deal go through and it will add a little more speed to his team that is lacking stolen bases.
