Tampa Bay Devil Rays (MLB 2k7)

    • DK's Opening Day 2 rosters
    • Heel's sliders
    • CPU Trades OFF

My fantasy draft one got ruined so I lost interest in it, but I'm actually really looking forward to this one. Hopefully with CPU trades off, even though it will remove a slight aspect of the game (there is enough movement in FA, anyway), the rivalries will stay in-tact.

Re: Tampa Bay Devil Rays (MLB 2k7)

        Young Rays ready for season

Scott Kazmir, the ace of the Rays' staff, hopes to have another good season

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have finished last in the American League East five of the last six seasons, losing 100 or more games four of those six seasons. The lone fourth-place finish was in the 2004, when the Devil Rays finished ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.

This year, the Rays are looking for their young offense and starting rotation to step up and progress a lot quicker than is expected of them. With Carl Crawford as the focal point of the Rays' offense, hitting third this year and playing in left field once again, the Rays will once again have speed on their side - and hopefully that speed will provide the spark this team needs to propel themselves to the next level. Even if it is not expected this year.

Also in the lineup is Rocco Baldelli who will be the teams designated hitter more often than not in hopes of keeping him healthy for an entire season. The outfield will be manned by two highly-touted rookies in bat-throwing Delmon Young - playing right field - and Elijah Dukes - playing center.

The left side of the infield features two new faces: Japanese import Akinori Iwamura at third and B.J. Upton at short. Jorge Cantu will be playing second base once again, and Ty Wiggington will be manning first base, while another new face, Dioner Navarro will be doing the catching.

The offense will, once again, be based off of contact and speed. Dukes, Upton, Crawford, Baldelli and Young are all threats to steal bases and beat out ground balls, while also providing hopes of the occasional home-run threat. All are young batters with enormous amounts of potential, and the Rays and their fans are all hoping each player can reach that potential sooner rather than later.

The Rays' pitching staff will, once again, be anchored by ace Scott Kazmir. Kazmir, who finished 10-8 with a 3.25 ERA and 163 strikeouts last season, will hopefully get more run support and add a few more wins to that resume, while keeping his nasty stuff. Fellow lefty Casey Fossum will be the team's third starter, with right hander James Shields in between the two of them. The bottom of the rotation features to young right-handers, Edwin Jackson (a high prospect acquired from the Dodgers last season) and Jeff Niemann, a Rays' draft pick from two years ago who will be getting his first taste of major-league action.

The bullpen is a weakness of the team, with 35-year old Al Reyes doing the closing and a plethora of guys providing other relief. Brian Stokes, Shawn Camp, Chad Orvella and Ruddy Lugo will be some of the more important pitchers out of the pen, with Tim Corcoran being the teams' long-relief specialist.

The Rays' open up the season at Yankee stadium and will have their chance to prove that they may finally have arrived as a 'threat' in the AL East. While no one expects them to finish ahead of the Yankees or the Red Sox, third place is within reach for the young squad - and that would be a massive improvement over their recent history.
