He wasn't fast enough for the NBA so he went into coaching right after he graduated, taking up as an assistaint coach under Coach K. Jim O'Donally- Jim was the starting pg at VMI for 4 years but wasn't nearly good enough for the NBA. He graduated when he was 21, served a 2 year army commitment, then came back as the head assistaint coach for 2 years. The head coach was then fired and the AD at VMI liked Jim's teaching ability so he promoted him to head coach.

How I am going to do this
For each game I am going to do a gameplanned sim (meaning i look at the other team and adjust my team accordingly). I will recruit for both coaches and do everything I think that will get them to an elite the quickest way possible. If one of them gets fired, he loses. Its that simple. Oh and friendly wagers on who you think is gonna win are greatly appreciated, should make this even more fun .

Would have been cool if they both started in the same conference, but my money would be on Barnes just because he'll actually be able to recruit decent players the first couple of years.

Are you planning on moving up to mid-major schools along the way?

ok sorry guys i didnt know i would be doing something tonight, but ill be doing this tommorow morning. As for the question, it really depends on the teams that the coaches have coming back. But its very likely they will be at at least 3 teams in their career (starter school, other, then elite) if not 4 or maybe even 5.

                    Coach Report

Mike Barnes- After Non-Conference play, Coach Barnes is sitting on a 5-5 record that is more impressive then it appears to be. Barnes got his first career win over Missouri, a school in one of the 6 Power Conferences, in his first game ever. He then went and lead NC A&T to 2 more wins in the same number of days by beating Stetson and Army. The streak was ended, however, but losing to Dayton a few days later. The Aggies then welcomed Longwood onto their homecourt. Longwood turned out to be a bad mannered guest as they overcame a 6 point deficent at half time to win by 6. The Aggies did pick things up though, by winning against SC State (a conference game) and New Mexico. However they lost their last three games to Arizona St., Baylor, and SMU to finish 5-5 (1-0) after they started at a promising 3-0. The conference schedule looms.

                      Coach Report

Jim O'Donally- Coach O'Donallys VMI team finished up their non-conference schedule finishing an impressive 5-4. The team had wins over James Madison, Army, Mercer, SC State, and against a power conference Penn St. team. The big story on this team isnt the wins though, its sf Ricky Davis. Davis is averaging 18.4 ppg and is 36th in the nation in scoring and 4th in the big south. He is also 15th in the nation in steals at 2.6 a game and 1st in the big south. He also does two things that wern't expected of him this season. He has shown that he is a capable passer with 3 assists per game (2nd on the team) and a good rebounder with 7 rebounds per game (2nd on the team). Davis is a star and the best thing about him is, HE'S ONLY A JUNIOR!!!
