(1-4) Tulane Green Wave @ #16 (6-0) Syracuse Orange
December 1st, 2007
Carrier Dome
Would the Orange lose it in the first half to Tulane?
Would the Orange be looking ahead to their showdown with Virginia next week? Certainly they couldn't overlook a pretty talented, experienced Tulane team, right? Or would Devendorf's return be bitter?
In the first 5 minutes of the game, it seemed as though the answer to all those questions was simple: yes. Tulane jumped out to a quick 10 point lead, with Devendorf nowhere in sight on the court. It was obvious his hand injury he had recovered from was still bothering him, and he was a bit squemish about getting into a game so soon. After all, he only had a day of practice before the game, not even.
Syracuse fought back towards the end of the half on the back of Paul Harris. Still, they were down at the break, 40-42.
Coach Boeheim must have said something to fire his youngsters up, and they quickly regained the lead and never looked back, outscoring the Wave by 9 in the second half with a great defensive performance, only allowing Tulane to score 29.
Devendorf didn't do so hot in his return, with only 5 points and an assist. He only played 15 minutes (out of 40), despite Coach Boeheim stating he would play much of the game. Scoop Jardine was the unsung hero of the game, hitting 2 of 3 threes and scoring 8 points in 19 minutes of play.
"We were lucky to come away with this one. For once we lost the rebounding war, didn't pass too well which led to a bunch of turnovers, and didn't play very good defense. Luckily, the Tulane shooters weren't on and we were able to pull out the victory."
Final: 78-71

Next: On the 5th, Syracuse will play their first road game of the season, and it comes against a tough 4-3 Virginia team. The Cavs aren't GREAT in anything, but they are a very good shooting team. Sean Singletary is the 1 stud of the team (92 ovr), and should be a very tough matchup for whoever guards him (most likely Flynn). He's the second leading scorer in the ACC (21 PPG, to Hansbrough's amazing 33.6), and has 5.7 assists per game.
