    Ark.-Pine Bluff Golden Lions
Location: Pine Bluff, Ark. | Founded: 1873 | Enrollment: 3,000 | Colors: Black and Gold | Home Court: K.L. Johnson Complex | Capacity: 4,500

    SCOUTING THE NEWCOMERS
Swingman Ricky Batsell-Parks garnered looks from larger colleges before deciding on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. There are many that believe the 6-5 freshman will make an immediate impact.

KEY EARLY-SEASON GAMES: Louisiana Tech comes to town for the home opener Nov. 20 after three tough road games. The Golden Lions need to hold their own -- and hopefully win -- against Tech to keep the season on a positive note.

    PROGRAM DIRECTION
The Golden Lions are always going to be good as long as the defense continues to be tough. Coach Smith needs to have a solid year this season with some scoring stars that can take this team higher.

    PROBABLE STARTING LINEUP
PG Terrance Calvin, G Larry Williams, F William Byrd, F George Davis, C Jarvis Gunter.

    ROSTER REPORT
F William Byrd was named the preseason SWAC Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

G Larry Williams will be a key to stretching opposing defenses, as he is easily the team's best long-range shooter.

G Terrance Calvin is going to be counted on to make better decisions with the ball after dishing out nine fewer assists than he had turnovers in 2006-07.

        UAPB destroys UTEP

El Paso, TX -- UTEP was not expecting a team that was talented enough to destroy a Press Defense. UTEP stayed in Press all night and didn't get anything done. The Coach kept them in the defense but UAPB would pick apart the errors and use them to their advantage. Coach Smith grabs his first career win and will be traveling Wichita State for his second game. Coach Smith was swarmed with media and had to answer questions before getting to leave.

CNN.com: Coach Smith are you worried that your team will become unfocused in the next few weeks?

Coach Smith: I have no need to be worried, my players know how to act on a Basketball Court and know what will happen if they become unfocused. They are ready for any game that comes to them. We look at the present not the future nor past.

ESPN.com: Coach will you make it to the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Smith: Only time will tell.

SI.com: Has there been any new recruits arrive at UAPB.

Coach Smith: That information is not to be released until after December 2nd. I have to go please save your questions until UAPB has a press conference.

Coach Smith told CBS after the game that he would be in contact for a all time contract with CBS. What that means is that CBS will be dedicated to the Golden Lions, airing all of their games. For Example, look at NBC and Notre Dame. All of Notre Dame games are aired on NBC. The same clause goes with the one UAPB is discussing with CBS. We will have the results of the agreement when we get it.
