    New Orleans Saints (Madden 08)

Here we are again folks. The start of the new NFL season. After a magical season in New Orleans the Saints fell to the Bears in the NFC Conference playoffs. It's new light for the Saints as they have their focus on the gold. The offense is said to be one of the most potent in the league this year featuring Reggie Bush in the back field seeing as Deuce is down for the year. Drew Brees will hope to lead this amazing offense with the help of Marques Colston. The defense didn't get much better from last year as they will mostly remain the same and seems to be their biggest down fall. The Saints are the favorite to win the NFC South this year and are predicted to finish 12-4. They are sought to get the #2 seed again this year in the NFC.

        Season Opener

        New Orleans Saints
        (0-0) @ Indianapolis Colts(0-0)
        John Clayton Preview:

A solid matchup between 2 power houses in their conferences. The defending Super Bowl champions the Colts start the season at home vs a very tough opponent. But I believe that the Colts will get the best of the Saints in this one. The Cotls are the better well rounded team offensively and defensively. Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning will manage his offense like he normally does in which I believe he will lead to victory in a 31-17 victory over the Saints. The Key Match Up here is between The Colts WR vs the Saints DB. I believe the Colts should have a very very good game throwing today.

          New Orleans(1-0) | 0 | 14 | 7 | 10 | - | 31
          Indianapolis Colts(0-1) | 3 | 7 | 7 | 0 | - | 17

          Recap 1st Half:

Things started off bad right away for the Saints as Olindo Mare right away on the opening kick-off kicked the ball out of bounds and the Colts were able to get it at the 40. But the Saints were able to hold the Colts to a 3 and out. Olindo Mare missed an early 50-yard FG on the Saints first drive. Manning completed a huge 3rd down play with a 16 yard pass to rookie Anthony Gonzalez in Saints territory. This ultimately led to a 46-yard FG by Adam Vinatieri at the end of the 1st quarter. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Drew Brees hit a rifle pass to David Patten who then ran for a 68 yard TD. 7-3 Saints. 2 plays later Manning one-uped Drew Brees with a 73-yard bomb to Reggie Wayne to make it a 10-7 game. The offenses are starting to heat up. After a few battles for field position, Drew Brees hit his favorite target Marques Colston for a 44-yard TD. 14-10 Saints with 1:33 in the 2nd quarter. With around 1 minute left in the 2nd quarter, former Colt-DB Jason David came up with a huge INT after they were trying to pick on him all day. Reggie Bush has been held in check relatively all day.

          Recap 2nd half:

On the opening drive after a disastrous WR reverse to Lance Moore, Drew Brees threw a wobbly pass as he was hit that was intercepted by T.J. Rushing of the Colts. The Colts are now in field goal range inside the 35. Right away a quick strike with a beautiful catch by Marvin Harrison for the TD. The momentum has totally shifted to the Colts as the crowd really gets into it. The Saints quickly drove into Colts territory after some posed and accurate throws by Drew Brees. Drew Brees threw his 3rd TD pass of the game as he found a wide open David Patten for his 2nd TD of the game to make the game 21-17. After a fine time consuming drive that lasted 11 plays, Reggie Bush finally showed some life on this drive as he dashed for a 12-yard TD run. The nail in the coffin was set as Scott Fujita jumped in front of the intended receiver Joseph Addai and returned it almost 50 yards before being brought down by Reggie Wayne. As the Colts were making a final drive to make the score more respectable, Manning threw another INT intended for Marvin Harrison into the leaping hands of Mike McKenzie. 31-17

Brees sure got the best of the Colts defense and Bush is averaging just over 4 yards. The team is looking good so far.
