Out With The Old, In With The New

Seattle, Washington. After hiring GM Sam Presti in June and head coach P.J. Carlesimo in July, both have been fired by the Sonics. The reason has been kept secret from the media. Replacing them will be Brandon Crawford, a relatively unknown coach from Canada, who coached a Canadian college to 3 consecutive national titles.
Crawford will have a tough year leading a very young Sonics team through the NBA season. The team is highlighted by rookies Kevin Durant from Texas and Jeff Green from Georgetown. These two players will have to quickly learn the ropes of the NBA, if the Sonics are going to have a good season. The Sonics youth is proven by the fact that only two players are 30 or more years of age. Durant and Green enter a Sonics team that has just lost Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, the two franchise players of the team. Although Durant is projected as the rookie of the year, there is no way he can fill the shoes of an Allen or Lewis. The Sonics may need to make some moves to get more veterans if they want to get a playoff spot this year, or they can struggle this year and continue getting high draft picks.

Coach Crawford Releases starting 5

Seattle, Washington. The new coach of the Sonics, has not taken long at all to release his starting 5, along with the bench and reserve players. Not many surprises in the line-up as Durant will be starting at the 3 spot, with Wilkins taking over for Ray Allen at the 2. Luke Ridnour kept his position as starting point guard. The two surprises were Collison being the 6th man and Wilcox starting over him, the other surprise was Kurt Thomas not starting at center. Robert Swift will run the paint for the Sonics.
