Week 12: New England vs. Baltimore

Another dominating performance by the Pats. This game was a lot like the previous one against the Chiefs. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie. But NE started out strong in the 2nd quarter, as Tom Brady found Deion Branch for the 10 yard touchdown on a slant. The Pats D got a 3 and out. The Patriots drove down the field running the ball, then all of a sudden put in PA pass and Branch was open on a go route for a 28 yard touchdown.

The Pats continued to control the rest of the game, Baltimore's 3 points came off of an interception by Brady that the Pats D was able to bail him out of, for the most part.

Final score: Patriots 47, Ravens 3.

    Brady: 14/21, 201 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception.
    Boller: 10/28, 86 yards, 1 interception.

    Dillon: 27 carries, 124 yards, 4.6 average, 2 touchdowns.
    Faulk: 5 carries, 47 yards, 9.4 average, 1 touchdown.

    J. Lewis: 13 carries, 26 yards, 2.0 average.

    Branch: 4 receptions, 61 yards, 2 touchdowns.
    B. Johnson: 2 receptions, 59 yards, 1 touchdown.

    S. Sharpe: 4 receptions, 34 yards.
    T. Taylor: 2 receptions, 23 yards.

        Week 13: Patriots @ Browns

Another rainy game. The Pat started off the game running the ball a lot, but Dillon wasn't finding any room. Towards the end of the first quarter, the Patriots started to pass a bit more, and they scored their first touchdown. It was an 18 yard reception by David Patten, who just came back from a concussion.

The second quarter was much of the same, more running, still, no success. But the Pats adjusted again and by the end of the quarter, David Patten had caught his second TD of the game to make it 14-0 at the half.

The Pats continued to run in the second half and wore down the defense, Dillon eventually finished over a 100 yards.

Final Score: Patriots 42, Browns 0.

        Brady: 14/23, 164 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception.
        Garcia: 12/33, 118 yards, 3 interceptions.

        Dillon: 25 carries, 137 yards, 5.5. avg, 1 touchdown.

        Patten: 4 receptions, 57 yards, 2 touchdowns.

        Still working on those sliders.

          Week 14: Patriots vs. Bengals

New England controlled the first half once again, going into the break 14-0. But the Bengals came out to play in the second half. On their first drive the drove down, only to be stopped short of a touchdown and had to kick a field goal. 14-3. The Bengals didn't stop. In the fourth quarter they cut the lead to 4 on a touchdown pass from Kitna to Freeman from 35 yards out. But New England extended their lead to 7 on a 51 yard field goal by Vinatieri. NE's defense continued to play well towards the end of the game, and Kevin Faulk got a touchdown in garbage time.

Final Score: Patriots 24, Bengals 10.

          Brady: 16/28, 201 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions.
          Dillon: 18 carries, 67 yards, 3.7 average.
          Patten: 4 receptions, 42 yards.

              AFC Divisional Playoffs:

New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts had a 9-7 regular season, and won the wild card game against the Steelers to advance. They had a rough start to the season, they were under .500 for most of it, then the won a bunch of games at the end to squeak into the playoffs.

On the opening kickoff, Bethel Johnson was hit and fumbled the ball right into the hands of a Colts player and it was returned for a touchdown. 7-0 Colts. The Patriots got it back on their next possession though. Corey Dillon ran right and then cut it straight up the middle for a 61 yard touchdown. 7-7 tie.

There would be no more scoring until early in the second quarter. After Kevin Faulk juked a linebacker out of his jock strap on third down to pick up the first and about 10 more, Tom Brady hooked up with Daniel Graham on a PA pass that went for 6. But Vinatieri missed the XP. (18 MPH winds). 13-7 Patriots.

After a fumbled punt by Troy Brown, and a recovery for the Colts, Peyton Manning found Reggie Wayne for a 6 yard touchdown reception to tie the game, but Vanderjagt missed the XP as well. 13-13 tie.

Towards the end of the half Corey Dillon was injured. Right after his injury occurred, the Patriots went with PA again, and it worked again. Tom Brady found TE C. Fauria over the middle on a post for the touchdown. 20-13 Patriots.

The Patriots made the lead 27-13 after an interception return for a touchdown by Mike Vrabel. The Colts cut the lead to 27-16 in the 3rd quarter with a 17 yard field goal by Vanderjagt (goal line stand by Pats.)

The Patriots owned the 4th quarter though. Tom Brady had a touchdown pass to Kevin Faulk out of the backfield and Vinatieri kicked a field goal. The defense shut out Manning for the final quarter.

Final score: Patriots 37, Colts 16.

              Brady: 15/19, 182 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception.

                AFC Championship Game

New England's running game never got started so the Raiders defense was able to focus on the pass. The Patriots went into half time leading 7-3, the touchdown was a 6 yard reception by Bethel Johnson.

Midway through the third quarter, with the same score (7-3 Pats) the Raiders were able to tip a Tom Brady pass at the line, and it was intercepted by Rudd and returned for a touchdown to give the Raiders the lead 10-7.

The Raiders would hold on to their 3 point lead until late in the fourth. The with 1:40 seconds left on the clock and 3 timeouts, the Patriots drove to the Raiders 40 yard line, and on 2nd and 9, Tom Brady found David Patten on a post route for the 40 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-10.

New England's defense would hold, and the Pats are the AFC Champs.

Final score: Patriots 14, Raiders 10.
                Brady: 20/37, 255 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception.
                Gannon: 12/24, 149 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception.

                Faulk: 23 carries, 54 yards.

                Wheatley: 14 carries, 13 yards.

                Branch: 4 receptions, 68 yards.
                Patten: 4 receptions, 68 yards, 1 touchdown.

                Rice: 7 receptions, 119 yards.
                Porter: 3 receptions, 20 yards.

                Injuries:

Keith Traylor, fractured arm, 1 week.
Eugene Wilson, broken foot, 5 weeks.
Corey Dillon, torn ACL, 18 weeks.
Deion Branch, pulled calf muscle, 4 weeks.

                NFC Championship Game:

                  Re: New England Patriots (2K5)

                  Super Bowl Preview:
                  (In NFL)
                  Patriots offense: #1
                  Patriots defense: #1

                  Vikings offense: #2
                  Vikings defense: #32

The Patriots are weakened by some injuries to key starters. Corey Dillon, Eugene Wilson, and Deion Branch will all be out of the game. Kevin Faulk will have to step up and have a better game than he did against the Raiders to keep the defense guessing. The Patriots will also have to keep a look out for Randy Moss. Randy Moss will most likely be covered by Ty Law, a good match up.

                  Keys to game for Patriots:

                  1. Establish run early.
                  2. Don't let Moss beat you deep.
                  3. Don't turn the ball over.

                  Keys to game for Vikings:

                  1. Good O-Line play.
                  2. Pressure Tom Brady
                  3. Be physical with Patriots receivers.

                  Prediction: 35-20 Patriots.

                    Super Bowl XXXIX:

There was no scoring in the first quarter, and only one touchdown in the second quarter, by the Vikings. It was a 10 yard run by Michael Bennett up the middle. Score at the half: 7-0 Vikings.

After an Otis Smith interception, the Patriots drove down the field and kicked a 40 yard field go to finally get on the board, 7-3 Vikings. But it wouldn't stay that way for long, Michael Bennett had another touchdown, this time it was 36 yards, as he outran Bruschi and Seymour to the sideline and then cut it up field. 14-3 Vikings.

The Patriots finally got their first touchdown in the fourth quarter with 4:09 remaining on the clock. It was a 9 yard touchdown reception by Daniel Graham in the back of the endzone. 14-10 Vikings.

On the Vikings next possession, Rodney Harrison intercepted Frerotte, and returned it to the 28 yard line of Minnesota. On the Patriots' first play after the interception, Tom Brady went deep to Bethel Johnson who came up with the catch for the 28 yard touchdown reception to put the Patriots up 17-14.

The Vikings had a great chance to tie the game when they were on the Patriots 22 yard line, but the pass was tipped by Rodney Harrison in the endzone and intercepted by Burris to seal the game.

Final score: Patriots 17, Vikings 14.

MVP: Tom Brady, 24/41, 296 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions.
