        Re: Georgetown Hoyas (CH 2K8)

        Jefferson checks out Georgetown
The nation's best is closing in on a decision

WASHINGTON, D.C. - If you're John Thompson III, you're certainly hoping that history repeats itself.

A year ago, J.R. Givens was the big name around the nation's capital. The star point guard made his official visit to Georgetown a week before the early signing period, and a week later was signed on to be a Hoya after much speculation that he might be leaning toward Connecticut or even Syracuse.

Now fast forward to present day, and Georgetown is once again battling two of college basketball's blue bloods for the star prospect in their own backyard.

After an exhausting trip home after three games in three days in Alaska, GU gave the players the weekend off. But the coaches didn't have time to rest, as top-ranked prospect Darius Jefferson arrived during the weekend for his official visit to Georgetown.

"It was great. I thought the coaches might be subdued because of all the traveling, but they brought their A game, for sure," Jefferson said. "They made me feel right at home, and made it clear how much they want me at Georgetown."

"The facilities were great. We toured the practice facility (McDonough Gym) and then went to the Verizon Center. Coach Thompson really hyped up the long winning streak they have going there," Jefferson said with a laugh.

When asked about how the visit stacked up with his other visits?

"I'd say they were all pretty equal. The schools I'm considering, they're the who's-who of college hoops, so you know they're going to roll out the red carpet for you, and they all have great fans, great facilities. They were all fun."

Jefferson concluded with some slight adjustments to his list.

"Syracuse and Virginia are out. I didn't visit either of them, and I won't be visiting anywhere else. I'll be signing next Sunday. I'll be picking between Duke, Georgetown and (North) Carolina. Those are the finalists."

While Jefferson may not be visiting anywhere else during the weekend of the beginning of the early signing period, Georgetown will be hosting one more official visitor, as five-star shooting guard Elliah Banks from St. Louis will be making his official visit to D.C. this weekend. The Hoyas have hosted Jefferson, Bernie Gunn and Orien Myers on campus in the past few weeks, and sources inside the Georgetown program say there is a lot of optimism on all three, and expect there to be similar optimism on Banks after his visit. Banks has offers from Georgetown, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Illinois and Indiana. Gunn has offers from the Hoyas, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest (with Duke showing interest), and Myers has offers from Georgetown, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Memphis.

Love the write up and hope to see Jefferson select the Georgetown Hoyas in the early signing period.

              Zero hour approaches
Georgetown's coaches pounding the recruiting trail as the signing period looms

              Saturday, November 28, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - At this point, with exhaustion setting in, all that can be done now is sitting back, catching your breath, and waiting by the fax machine for good news.

John Thompson III and his assistants on the Georgetown staff have had quite the past ten days. On the 18th, they flew over 4000 miles to Alaska, where they coached three games in three days. They flew over 4000 miles back to D.C. late night on the 21st, arriving in time to host Darius Jefferson on his official visit to Georgetown. After the weekend ended, the GU staff flew 366 miles to Wilimington, North Carolina on Monday the 23rd to visit five-star center Bernie Gunn. Once that visit concluded, they stayed in Wilimington overnight before flying 617 miles to Tuscaloosa to do their in-home visit with five-star small forward Orien Myers. Once that ended, they flew 800 miles back to DC for the George Washington game on the 25th. That's over 10,000 miles in a week.

And what will the end result be?

No one knows for sure, but confidence is supremely high inside the walls of Georgetown. A source close to the program says Coach Thompson and his staff expect a huge signing day tomorrow. They have received vibes from all four prospects they have offered scholarships to, indicating they could all be Hoyas sooner rather than later. Myers, Gunn and Jefferson have officially visited DC, while Elliah Banks is on campus during the signing day weekend and could leave as a Hoya.

And to top it all off, the Hoyas have to get ready to face unbeaten Maryland in a fierce local rivalry, and they have to do it without Austin Freeman, who will be watching the game in street clothes with crutches. Thompson III said Friday that freshman J.R. Givens will get the start in Freeman's place.

                Early Signing Period - November 29 - December 6

                Stars align for Georgetown
The dogs have their day as the Hoyas sweep all four of their targets on signing day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The ball got rolling around 9:30 AM, with a phone call followed by a fax minutes later.

It was from Bernie Gunn, the 7'2 center from Wilmington, North Carolina. He was calling John Thompson III to inform him that he was committed to Georgetown and his letter of intent would be coming in minutes.

                Sure enough, it did.

Around noon, small forward Orien Myers of Tuscaloosa followed suit. The 7th-ranked player in the class spurned more local teams like Tennessee and Memphis to become a Hoya.

The day progressed, and so did shooting guard Elliah Banks' official visit to Georgetown. Already excited enough as he was, the news of two fellow blue-chippers faxing in letters of intent seemed to put Banks over the top, and he was sold: the third five-star prospect announced on the spot that he wanted to make Georgetown his home, and signed on the dotted line promptly.

And then...the biggest prize of them all showed up to deliver the news in person.

"I knocked on Coach Thompson's door, and he couldn't believe it. I had shown up in a Georgetown hoodie and a Georgetown cap," the nation's top-ranked player, Darius Jefferson, said. "He was so excited. He called the other coaches in and we all hugged and celebrated. I was excited to meet (Elliah) Banks, too. He had committed earlier in the day, and was pumped beyond belief to be there when I committed."

The nation's best player was a cherry on top for what, on paper, appears to be Georgetown's greatest recruiting class. When asked what it was about Georgetown that made them the choice, Jefferson had a simple answer.

"It was just the vibe," he said. "I felt comfortable with everything there. The location, the coaches, the players, the fans. My boy J.R. (Givens) is gonna be there. Everything about Georgetown is perfect for me."

Some great wins all-around here. This looks like a big season for Georgetown. That recruiting class is absolutely killer! Imagine if Givens went pro that Jefferson could de-commit after losing one of his friends?

                          Great dynasty!

Quick question... What are you using for sliders? I'm about to start my own dynasty and you seem to get some good games. You beat up on teams you should, you lose some games that you should and you have a lot of tight ones too.

Psy, would you mind letting me know the HTML code you use for your top-25 polls? If you do, then I'll just find another generic top-25 poll HTML to use, but I'm just looking to get something together to spruce up my dynasty. And where do you find team logos that small?!?

Hey Psy would you mind sharing some of the settings you use during your games? Your stats come out fairly realistic and reading your write ups make me wanna play! There really are no sliders left in the slider thread here so this is why I ask you.

Check page 1 or 2 for the sliders, guys.

As for the HTML, you can get all the code by quoting one of my posts and copying and pasting. After that you can get an easier layout with it by creating a Blogger account; it automatically formats the HTML when you paste it in, and you can edit the tables from there.
