          Game 16: November 30th 2007

          @ Utah Jazz

          Lakers Wear Down Jazz!
Another 4th quarter blitz, see’s the Lakers home

Utah became the sixth straight victim of a confident Lakers team, as the Jazz cough up a tight game to collapse to a 16 point loss, thanks to a 4th quarter blitz by the Laker offensive studs Bryant and Artest.

The game remained even throughout the first 3 quarters, as both sides took their shots and made each other pay for any turnovers. Then in the 4th, the Lakers made their move, putting up a 12-2 run with 4 minutes left, which set them up for the comfortable win.

Utah will rue individual errors through the game, as Boozer who top scored with 26 and Williams who ran a double-double, should have been on a winning team, not a team that has lost by double digits.

          Los Angeles 112 Utah 96

          Post Game Cuts:

Shaq: “We came here to win, to do our jobs and we’ve done that again tonight. There’s along way to go right now, but 6 straight deserves some respect and we just gonna keep putting the pressure on the West”

Ron Artest: “I thrive on the pressure and I love the fans getting on my back. Every arena we have gone to this year, the fans are getting at us from the tip off…. It just motivates us more to get the win and put their home team down”

          Stats:

          Laker Notables:
          K. Bryant – 24pts / 4A
          R. Artest – 24pts / 7R
          S. O’Neal – 15pts / 9R
          A. Walker – 15pts / 9R

          Jazz Notables:
          C. Boozer – 26pts / 9R
          D. Williams – 15pts / 13A
          A. Kirilenko – 12pts / 6R
          M. Harping – 11pts / 6R

                Game 17: December 2nd 2007

                vs Orlando Magic

                That’s Magic!
Los Angeles lead through all 4 quarters, continuing their streak

The Lakers work their way past a disappointing Magic team, as the L.A. bench comes up big, adding over 50pts to the 114 tally.

Derek Fisher, Gary Payton and John Salmons all had season high performances, as their shared 7 successful shots from down town. The Magic on the other hand, failed to backup a double-double game from Rashard Lewis with any effect.

Whilst the Laker bench took their chance, Orlando saw their team wilt without the starting 5 on the court. The Lakers are now starting to show their strength in depth and will continue to drive forward towards the summit of the West.

                Orlando 87 Los Angeles 114

                Post Game Cuts:

Phil Jackson: “Everyone is working hard for us from practice to game night. We have a strong group of guys, our bench could start for most teams, but they want to compete and win with the Lakers, that’s a good attitude to have”

Gary Payton: “I probably got one more shot at this. Last time things didn’t work out the way we wanted in the end, but I can still add a lot of plus points to this team”

                Stats:

                Laker Notables:
                K. Bryant – 24pts / / 6R / 4A
                D. Fisher – 18pts / 5R
                G. Payton – 16pts
                J. Salmons – 10pts

                Magic Notables:
                J. Redick – 16pts
                R. Lewis – 15pts / 11R
                H. Turkoglu – 14pts / 6R
                J. Nelson – 9pts / 8A

                    Game 18: December 4th 2007

                    @ Minnesota Timberwolves

                    Bryant Goes Clutch!
Kobe drains the game winning deuce, Lakers keep on trucking

Kobe Bryant again steps forward as the main man for the Lakers, as he tickles the twine with a 7 foot jumper, as the Timberwolves desperately scrambled to get the block on the shot.

Minnesota had actually looked good to snap the recent winning streak of L.A., as they held a 4 point lead going into the 4th, alas they failed to maintain their field goal percentage, allowing Kobe to ignite the Lakers comeback.

Gary Payton again stepped forward as the sixth man to sink 10 pts, whilst Artest and Shaq got back into the swing of things, with Shaq playing on a sore ankle and Artest 1 rebound shy of an impressive DD’.

                    Los Angeles 93 Minnesota 91

                    Post Game Cuts:

Phil Jackson: “Shaq is hurt, its not bad so we will let him tell us if and when he can play. He carried on out there in the 4th to get those vital 6pts, so it may just be a drop in minutes for him, rather than sitting for a few games”

Kobe Bryant: “These wins make playoff teams, we need to maintain the level of performance for longer periods though, as we could have been in trouble there, but for Minnesota choking on high percentage shots”

                    Stats:

                    Laker Notables:
                    K. Bryant – 24pts / / 7R / 5A
                    R. Artest – 15pts / 9R
                    S. O’Neal – 13pts
                    G. Payton – 10pts

                    Timberwolve Notables:
                    S. Telfair – 21pts / 5A
                    C. Villanueva – 17pts / 4R
                    A. Jefferson – 14pts / 14R
                    C. Brewer – 13pts

                      Game 19: December 5th 2007

                      @ Denver Nuggets

                      Melo + A.I = 60pts and Nugget Success!
Denver big-guns come out firing and rail the Lakers for 36pt loss

The Denver Nugget’s emphatically end the Lakers recent run of victories, as Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson take charge of the rock, so shove a 36 point win down the throat of a stunned Laker team.

At no point did the Lakers look close in this one, Shaq managed to play on a bad ankle, but looked less effective as time wore on. Whilst Ron Artest appeared to lose his cool a few times, including a shout down with an official that could leave him in hot water with the league.

Kobe again attempted to work his way into the game, but his 26 point haul, paled in comparison to the performances put in by Melo’ and A.I. Denver needed this win to move in touch in the Northwest, whilst the Lakers will need to get back to winning ways, before the Sun sets out in the Pacific Division.

                      Los Angeles 90 Denver 126

                      Post Game Cuts:

Phil Jackson: “We took Ron out of there early as he was getting frustrated at the ‘home’ calls that appeared to be going on. He is a passionate guy, the officials should know that, I don’t see any problem with having a few words with them if the situation requires it”

Ron Artest: “Some of the calls out there were just c**p, im not taking that, we came here to play and they didn’t let us”

                      Stats:

                      Laker Notables:
                      K. Bryant – 26pts / 4A
                      A. Walker – 15pts / 4R
                      D. Fisher – 14pts
                      S. O’Neal – 11pts / 6R

                      Nugget Notables:
                      C. Anthony – 32pts / 10R
                      A. Iverson – 28pts / 6A
                      C. Atkins – 19pts / 10A

                        Game 20: December 9th 2007

                        vs Golden State Warriors

                        Double Break!
Warriors break Lakers run of home wins, whilst Walker snaps an ankle!

Double disappointment for the Lakers, as they fall to their first home loss following 4 straight wins whilst Antoine Walker agonisingly broke his ankle when gathering a rebound under pressure.

The Lakers look set to collect another victory at the Staples Center, until Walker took his fall midway through the 4th, which appeared to knock the stuffing out of the Laker team allowing the Warriors to score 14 unanswered points on their way to a 10pt win.

Baron Davis was the main benefactor for Golden State, as he added 15pts and 6 assists in a huge 4th quarter showing, as only Artest and Bryant put up the numbers to try and stop the Warrior win.

After the game, Los Angeles team doctors confirmed that Antoine Walker has broke his ankle, probably leaving him sidelined for 6 weeks and a return of late January at the earliest.

Golden State 104 Los Angeles 94

                        Post Game Cuts:

Phil Jackson: “Antoine took a bad fall, the guys are all close so it knocked them for six to see him out there in that pain. Our concentration wasn’t there after that, we will get our house back in order and be ready to play again”

Derek Fisher: “Our thoughts are with Antoine, he is a great player and has been a key part of our locker room. We know he will come back stronger from this, so it’s a case of focusing and getting the win total up”

                        Stats:

                        Laker Notables:
                        K. Bryant – 21pts / 6R
                        R. Artest – 21pts / 6R / 5A
                        S. O’Neal – 13pts / 5R
                        A. Bynum – 8pts / 7R

                        Warrior Notables:
                        B. Davis – 31pts / 14A
                        M. Ellis – 15pts
                        A. Harrington – 14pts / 6R
                        S. Jackson – 13pts

                          vs San Antonio Spurs

                          Spurs Kick On!
NBA Champs’ move to 4-1 on Duncan’s return!

Tim Duncan leads the Spurs to another win, as they move to 4-1 on his return giving the Lakers their 3rd straight loss in a dominant display.

The Spurs turned up the gears in the 4th, racking up a 42-22 quarter on their way to a 30pt victory. At one point early in the 4th, the Lakers did pull things back to just 4pts before things fell apart.

3 San Antonio players all hit 20+ pts, with Duncan backed up by Ginobli and Parker, the latter adding 12 assists for a double-double. For the Lakers, Kobe rattled 34pts but again failed to receive credible backup with only Artest shooting double digits.

Tim Duncan: “Its good to be back, we like coming to L.A. and getting the win as we have a good rivalry here. The team got a little unsettled early this season, but we have enough time and talent to make the playoffs again”

Shaq: “The fans are getting a bit impatient with us at times, but they have to just respect what we are doing and stick with it. We are still in the playoff places and things will come together for us as the season goes on”

                            @ Golden State Warriors

                            Deja Vo’us!
Warriors repeat win in almost identical fashion!

For the second time in 3 games, the Warriors beat the Lakers, this time at Golden States arena, as the score line almost replicates itself bar a 1 point Laker improvement.

This time the game was always in Warrior control, as they had the majority of the rock through the opening quarters. A Laker rally through the 3rd bought things closer; however Harrington and the Baron again put their foot down in a overwhelming 4th quarter.

Shaq played for the first time without pain, and it showed as he collected a double-double, Biedrins did the same for the Warriors whilst the Baron fell 1 rebound and 1 assist shy of a triple double night.

4 straight defeats leaves the Lakers in a precarious position, as next up it’s the battle of L.A. with the Clippers ready to add more misery to Laker fans.

Phil Jackson: “We seem to be very streaky and relying on confidence, rather than working through the tough spells. Golden State saw we were there for the taking and that’s why we are 0-2 against them this year”

Baron Davis: “Everyone loves beating the Lakers, they are the team to shoot at. Its great to put up big numbers against players like Kobe, Shaq and Ron… I think we all raise our game to be better than them”

                              Los Angeles Win!
                              Lakers leave city rivals red-faced!

Some say that the city stops when these two meet in the NBA, others say, its just another game. The Lakers and Clippers will always be about city pride, so for the Lakers it was a good chance to return to form and come out on top against the Clippers.

Tonight proved to be Kobe night, both teams laid on extra merchandise and a bumper crowd filled out the Staples Center. It was Bryant who stole the show, shooting 48pts as the Lakers took a comfortable win over the Clippers, who had problems staying out of foul trouble all game.

Surprisingly Bryant hit only 2 for 8 from beyond the arc, but it failed to dent a confident display, as the Lakers took the game from the scruff of the neck from the tip to buzzer. Gary Payton again proved his worth; stepping up with 18pts, whilst for the Clippers Kaman notched a double-double, with Cuttino Mobley top scoring with 14.

Kobe: “Coach told me to keep taking shots, play my game and work the Clippers defense. They gave me the space to play, so im going to drive to the bucket every chance I get”

                                @ Chicago Bulls

                                Bull-dozed!
                                Chi-town come back strong!

Kobe and the Lakers shot out to an early lead in this one, looking to string back to back wins together, following the victory over the Clippers. However Luol Deng and Ben Gordon had other ideas and imposed their game plan on Los Angeles, to snag back a 9pt deficit and take the game by 11.

Bryant become obsolete in the 2nd half, as he scored 18 of his eventual 22pts in the 1st and although Shaq, Artest and Fisher all stepped up their game, the presence of Deng, Gordon, Hinrich and recently acquired Al Harrington made the difference for the Bulls.

The Lakers road form is starting to become a concern, as a once strong record is now in danger of sinking towards .500, with 3 more games to come away from Los Angeles over the next week, the Lakers will be hoping to get the results to keep them in touch with the runaway Suns.

However for us, we need to get back that consistency and performance level, its dropped a bit and we are not getting the contribution we need at all times”

Shaq: “Some guys have been playing hurt, we lost Antoine, ive been playing on a bad ankle, so its been tough for us. We need to get our best playing together, that’s how you win championships”
