    PROJECT ANN ARBOR:
    Michigan 2007 Season Recap:

Ann Arbor, Michigan – The Wolverines had high hopes entering the season as the #2 ranked team in the nation and things looked really good for Big Blue up until week 11 when they lost a nail bitter 31-24 to Wisconsin for their first defeat of the season. That loss dropped them for #2 all the way to #8 and with the big game against Ohio State next it was not how the Michigan faithful had invisioned heading into the game.

Ohio State handed Michigan their worse defeat of the season with a 41-29 beatdown in Ann Arbor and sealed the fate of head coach Lloyd Carr who was officialy fired after the Ohio State disaster. Michigan sent out Coach Carr a wiiner as they took care of Tennessee 21-7 to win the Capital One Bowl.

Michigan lost a fair few Players from last season rosters with Mike Hart,Chad Henne and Jake Long all graduation and Kevin Grady and Trent Morgan declaring for the NFL. Michigan also lost former blue chipper Ryan Mallett who decided to Transfer to Arkansas after it became apparent that incoming coach Rich Rodriguez would be running an option offense, something that Mallett was not at all. keen on.

Now starts the new phase in Michigan Football and hopefully a few national Championships will be forth coming for the new coaching staff and players.

      PROJECT ANN ARBOR:
      Michigan Recruiting Roundup:

Ann Arbor, Michigan – The Wolverines entered the Recruiting Periord looking to acquire the required athletes to run the Option Offense that incoming Coach Rich Rodriguez likes to run. Michigan may have found the man that can ruun the offense with the signing of Blue Chipper Derrick Dunlap.

Dunlap, the 6'2 Quaterback from Redding, California threw for 2980 Yards and 24 Touchdowns and Rushed for 988 Yards and 18 Touchdowns as a Senior all while leading his team to the state championship. Michigan also brought in HB's Mike Flower, Ryan Moore and Ricky Ealy to carry the ball in the Option Offense.

Michigan also loaded up on the Offensive Line with a Trio of Tackles in Daniel Clark, Scott Webb and Reginald Malone along with Guard Tim Stukes and Center Stephen Griffin.

Michigan also loaded up in the Defensive Secondary with Safties Bryan hood and Brad McCoy.

        PROJECT ANN ARBOR:
        Michigan Offensive Preview:

        Code:
[U][B]# Name Pos HGT WGT YR OVR[/B][/U]

        [COLOR=red]12  Andrew Peoples   QB   6'4"  184 FR   70[/COLOR]
Quarterback: Derrick Dunlap and Steven Threet are two very different type of Quarterbacks, and thats exactly what Rich Rodriguez is counting on. Threet and Dunlap are expected to both see a the field this season but in very different situations.

Dunlap is the mobile QB that Rodriguez loves and will run the option offense where as Threet will see the field when ever the Wolverines face an opponent that knows how to stop the option or when they are in 3rd and long.

        32 Vince Helmuth FB 6'1" 250 SO 83
Running Back: Brandon Minor has the tough task of trying to replace Mike Hart and Kevin Grady but he will not be alone in his quest.

Three Freshman Mike Flower, Ryan Moore and Ricky Ealy will all do their part to try and account for the 1900 Yards that the duo put up last year.

Minor and Flower will be the main backs this season with Ealy red shirting and Moore expected to see a majority of his carries in blow outs. Minor is the power back of the group with Flower the speed back and threat out of the backfield in the passing game.

        42 Chris McLaurin TE 6'3" 237 JR 84
Wide Receiver: Adrian Arrington and Mario Manningham where not expected back after last year's 11-2 season but their return gives Steven Threet and Derrick Dunlap two dependable targets that can stretch the field and take some pressure off the ground game. Manningham led the team with 987 Yards last season and is expected to reach those numbers again.

The Wolverines have great depth in their receiving cores with 1 Senior, 2 Juniors and 6 Freshman behind Manningham and Arrington. Only incoming recruit Rob O'Connor is expected to see any action of the true freshman and that will be mainly as a returner where he can utilize his 96 speed. Martell Webb can expect to see a few passes his way especially in the end zone.

Offensive Line: it will be tough for anyone to replace a perennial All-American like Jake Long but the Wolverines are hoping that Rimington Award winner Justin Boren and All-American Right Tackle Steven Shilling can ease the burden.

Perry Darrestein will step in to Long's massive shoes and protect Dunlap/Threet's blindside and joining him on the left side of the line will be Junior Tim Mcavoy, filling out the line will be Senior Right Guard Cory Zirbel.

Michigan recruited some nice prospects along the O-Line with Daniel Clark backing up Darrestein at Left Tackle. Fellow recruits Tim Stukes, Scott Webb, Reginald Malone and Stephen Griffin will be red shirted this season.

Defensive Line: Brendon Graham and Terrance Taylor are among the best players at their respective positions and on any given play they can cause total chaos to the oppositions offensive line and make running backs and quarterbacks think twice about running up the guts.

John Ferrara and Adam Patterson make up the rest of the line. They are by no means slouches but lack the killer instinct that Graham and Taylor have.

Depth is a concern for the Wolverines with mainly Juniors and Sophomores backing up the starters.

Linebackers: Jonas Mouton and Obinna Ezeh lead this group of talented linebackers but like the Defensive Line they lack any real depth. Ezeh and Mouton are the leaders of the defense and will need play like they are to help Wolverines this season.

Marell Evans is the lone Left Outside Linebacker and when he is out of breath or injured, god forbid, true freshman Sheldon Godfrey will step in and replace him.

Linebacker is a position that will need to be recruited heavily this season.

Cornerback: This is another position that lacks depth with only Troy Woolfolk, Clay Barron and Donovan Warren assured of returning next year.

Warren and Johnny Sears will start the season but expect pressure from Brandon Harrison and Doug Dutch, both could start for most teams in the Nation but find themselves as backups at Michigan.

Clay Barron will redshirt this year and could very well make a move to safety next season if he gets any bigger.

          [COLOR=red]40  Brad McCoy       SS   6'0"  188 FR   72[/COLOR]
Safeties: Stevie Brown and Artis Chambers will be the starters this season but Chambers could find himself riding the pine with Charles Stewart maybe moving over to strong safety and giving the Wolverines a formidable last line of defense.

The Wolverines have pretty good depth at safety but it is a position that could also be upgraded during recruiting.

          41 Zoltan Mesko P 6'4" 245 SR 78
Special Teams: Bryan Wright and Zoltan Mesko are the incumbents but both will need to be replaced in the next couple of years.

Rob O'Connor will be the punt returner and Mario Manningham will return kick offs.

                Michigan Dismantels EMU, Win 38-7

Ann Arbor, Michigan – Michigan was a buzz with the new college football season kicking off and the Wolverines had more then one reason to be nervous about the new season. Michigan for the first time in a long time had a new head coach in Rich Rodriguez and a new backfield with Chad Henne and Mike Hart both graduating and heading to the NFL.

Freshman Derrick Dunlap was the new face under center and Brandon Minor was one of the new players set to carry the load in the new offense the Wolverines where installing. Eastern Michigan where the first team to see just how well Michigan had adapted to the Option Offense and the Eagles, Michigan Fans and Football fans left the game very surprised at just how comfortable the Wolverines excacuted their offense.

Michigan won the game 38-7 thanks to the deaf passing of Dunlap and the hard nosed running of Minor. Dunlap got the scoring started for Michigan when he connected with fellow Freshman Mike Flower for a 25 yard score in the 1st quarter and it didnt take long for the Freshman QB to find the endzone again, this time hooking up with Mario Manningham for a 12 yard score and a 14-0 lead.

Brendon Minor scored on runs of 11 and 5 yards in the 2nd and 4th quarters respectivly and finsihed the game with 160 yards and 2 Touchdowns on only 22 carries. Greg Matthews was outstanding in the slot pulling down 7 passes for 104 yards and Mario Manningham finished the game with 91 yards and a score.

Eastern Michigan struggled to get anything going on offense but did manage to find the endzone in the 3rd quarter thanks to a 4 yard scamper from Terrence Blevins. The Eagles defense looked hopeless against Michigan's new offense in it showed with the Wolverines compiling over 380 yards of total offence.

                  Tigers Claw Wolverines, Win 28-26

Ann Arbor, Michigan – #5 Michigan vs. #15 Clemson, this was the early season game that would allow Rich Rodriguez and his coaching staff to see just how the Wolverines had taken to his option offense. Unfortunately for Michigan they did not get the victory but they did put on a great show and proved that even with the roster turnover they can still be a force this season.

Michigan lead 14-6 at half time thanks to Touchdown Runs from Derrick Dunlap and Brandon Minor, the pair combined for 151 Yards and 3 Touchdowns on 33 carries but the pair failed to consistently get yards in the 2nd half when the Wolverines where outscored 22-12.

Dunlap committed some costly freshman mistakes throwing 2 interceptions and losing 2 out of the 3 fumbles he had, these all came in the 2nd half and killed any chance of a comeback for Michigan.

Despite the turnovers Dunlap still passed for 141 Yards and connected with Mario Manningham for a 4th quarter Touchdown that put the Wolverines back in the game, Dunlap tried to tie the game up with a 2 point conversion but Adrian Arrington could not hold on to the ball in the corner of the endzone giving the Tigers a 28-26 victory.

Clemson's defense was the difference especially in the 2nd half when they forced the 5 turnovers but it was not just there defense that caused Michigan problems. James Davis and Cullen Harper caused havoc combining for 370 plus yards and 2 Touchdowns.
