Both teams played an outstanding hustle first half. It was beautiful college basketball full of runs and good half court ball. I was up by 16 at one point when they rallied and tied it at the half. The second half became the story of how Dionte Christmas couldn't find his game. Tyndale was alright, but I could have used Christsmas to extend the defense of Miami. Allen became a non-factor after the first five minutes due to the heavily packed zone the Hurricanes switched to.

Oh, and it doesn't hurt to have 15 rebounds from your center. Absolute beast on the glass.

Update on the progressing point guard controversy:

    Chris Clark - 23 minutes, 0 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 turnovers
    Inge - 17 minutes, 4 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, 0 turnovers

That stat line shows me a player who wants to start and run this team, and a player cracking under the pressure. I will say again that I love Clark's first step better than Guzman or Inge, but I need someone to run this team. Clark isn't benched yet, but he is very, very close.

I'm sure that you know that "Dr. J" graduated from UMASS.

Also, there is a celebrity that is common to both UMASS and Temple. Bill Cosby went to both schools.

      Now, back to the thread.

Good luck with Temple and building them back up.

Great, great game defensively for the Owls. I completely controlled the flow and pacing of the game, which is perfect for a road game. The crowd was lulled early, and Dionte Christmas was hot from the tip off. Mark Tyndale really showed his value in this game. Although he was horrid on the offensive end, he put the clamps on Nate Miller. Miller was 3-12 from the field. Chris Clark was also impressive defensively againt stand out Ryne Hamblet. Clark was taken advantage of, however, in the low post. Hamblet abused him for a play or two early in the second half. He was then marked by Christmas for the rest of the game.

Hopefully this game was a turning point. Especially on the defensive end, which Temple is known for. A good shooting Akron squad host the Owls next.

Next Game: @ Akron Zips (3-1)

          * PG Semaj Inge, a junior, served a one game suspension for violating team rules. No reason was given from Coach Dunphy, but it is believed that Inge will never...EVER get cocky in a practice session again.

Best game of the season in terms of late drama. I was down 65-64 with about 3:50 left in the game. Chris Clark (he of the 7 assist, 7 turnover fame) passed to a curling Mark Tyndale for a huge 3 pointer with McKnight in his face. 67-65. The Zips come back down the court and throw an alley-oop to McKnight, 67-67, 3:36 left. I immediately come back down and search for the hot hand. Tyndale receives another beautiful pass on the opposite side of the arc to hit his second consecutive 3, this time with Linhart hanging on him. 70-67 with 2:57 to go.

Both teams trade possessions once until Olmos gets fouled with 1:44 left. Olmos hits two, 72-67. Here is where things get interesting.

Middleton rushes the ball up court. Before Lavoy Allen can get back (I had him at center for the last few minutes), Linhart cuts and hits a lay-up at 1:34 left. On the inbounds pass, Akron throws a full court press at me for the first time all game. I, not paying attention, throw it to Dials at the 3 point arc. He hits what I believe to be the game tying three, but the very tip of his left toe (if he has one shoe size smaller, it's a tie game) is on the line. 72-71, 1:29 left.

I drive back down the court and work the ball around. After three rotations, I see a lane with Clark. I crossover Dials and go for the lay-up. Linhart, on the help, swats my shot the other way. Middleton comes up with the ball, Akron timeout. :54 left.

Akron comes down the court. After about 7 seconds, Middleton starts a play. After two passes, the ball rotates around to Middleton in the corner. He catches the pass, but as he turns to shoot what would be a wide open 3, he steps on the line. Turnover, Temple ball, :42 left.

I bring the ball up and milk the clock. At about :15 left, I do the unthinkable. I hoist a jumper that I believe will put the nail in the coffin with Dionte Christmas. It clangs off the side of the rim, but Mark Tyndale comes up with the offensive rebound and is fouled. Still 72-71, 9.1 seconds to go. Double bonus...Tyndale misses two.

My clutch senior missed both free throws. Ugh. Timeout Akron after the rebound.

Akron bring the ball down. They cross midcourt at about 4 seconds left. Middleton wastes no time BLOWING by Christmas, and shoots a WIDE OPEN 3 with 1.5 seconds left. I closed my eyes and put my head down as I heard a clang TWICE. I looked up, no idea how the ball had bounced, and saw I had won the game! Unbelievable ending! Wish I would have seen it

On a strategy note, Chris Clark is sticking at PG. As much as I hate it, he gives me too much on the offensive end. I'll have to take the god with the bad. This game was Clark's chance to shine, and outside of 7 botches with the ball, he did well. With Inge's suspension over, I am sure he will get some minutes, but he is in the doghouse.

This was a 4 point game with about 3:30 left. Bubba Walther had 8 points with 3:30 left. Needless to say, when you play good 2-3 defense, this type of thing doesn't happen. Unfortunately the formerly named point guard for the Bobcats went lights out on me in the last few minutes, making a closely contested game a 14 point laugher.

More and more I am seeing connections between the factors of losing games and winning them with Temple. When I face a good big man I have real issues with my defense. Allen and Olmos are good interior fillers, but when they go up against an actual skilled inside presence, the team as a whole struggles to maintain good defensive structure.

My next game should help my confidence. It is against my real life alma mater, Towson. SHOULD be an easy win , although Pat Kennedy has a strong influence in whatever program he coaches.

Huge win considering I was down by 6 at halftime. Allen went insane in the second half, and after a cold opening Robert Brooks found his stroke when he came in the game with about 13:00 left. Anyone here that has to play Towson - they love to spot up, they run Pease back and forth behind screens all day until he can get a look, and Thorton should be starting in place of Coleman. Also, if you drive, make sure Breaux isn't there. You can get him into foul trouble, but more often then not you will be watching the ball flying into the stands.

Marcus Tyndale is without a doubt the unsung hero of this team. Christmas and Allen get the pub, but Tyndale marked up on Pease in the last 10:00 and completely shut him down. A real senior performance from him, something he is becoming accustomed to.

Sorry about the lack of updates. My save was corrupted, but I acquired a way to fix it

I played one hell of a first half against the Cats, and wound up tied. I had one of those "pit of the stomach" feelings that it couldn't get much better. I was right. Reynolds and Clark weren't much of a factor in the first half, it was more Stokes, Cunningham and Drummond leading the charge. Then to start the second Fisher came out at the point, with Reynolds playing two guard. That's when 'ole Scottie decided that this game was over. The lack of penetration in the second half for me didn't help either as I was obviously carried by my free throws during the early going.
