COACH MARTELLI READY TO GET IT ON!
We caught up with St Joe's head coach Phil Martelli today and he gave us the rundown on what goals he has set for the upcoming season.First and foremost we obviously want to get off to a good start and use that momentum to challenge and hopefully to win the highly competitive Atlantic 10 Conference.Secondly coach also would like to take the BIG FIVE city series to have some bragging rights for the rest of the year. For those who don't know, the BIG FIVE consists of 5 Philadelphia Universities(ST Joes,Temple,Lasalle,Penn and Villanova) who play a round robin to crown a "city champion".Drexel University has also entered the mix as of late.Anyway Coach Martelli also feel that a berth in the NCAA's is possible this year and ultimately thats the teams final goal. The Hawks will be led this season by senior sharpshooter Pat Calathes who can hurt you from anywhere on the court.Calathes is also the teams best rebounder despite playing the SF position. This years team is not very deep,so the starting 5 are all expected to carry a heavy load. The Hawks play primarily a box offense and man to man defense.Well thats all from here,LETS GO HAWKS!

ST JOES TAKES OPENER VS FARLEIGH DICKINSON
The St Joes Hawks started the season on a good note by beating the Farleigh Dickinson Knights 62 to 54.The Hawks controlled the game the whole way as senior forward Pat Calathas was unstoppable pouring in 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals.Amhad Nivens also came up big with 12 rebounds to go with 9 points. The Knights were led by freshman Anthony Juene with 20 points.Up next for the Hawks is Syracuse.
