    Antonelli Dominates With One Hitter
Wrigley Field,Chicago-In a game the Phillies really needed to have, rookie pitcher Johnny Antonelli took matters into his own hands as he absolutely dominated the Chicago Cubs today pitching a complete game one hitter while ringing up 8 strikeouts and surrendering 3 walks in the Phillies 7-0 victory. For the season,Antonelli has now pitched 6 complete games and 3 shutouts while racking up 8 wins against just two defeats. At the plate,Puddin Head Jones took full advantage of the Cubs decision to start recently drafted pitcher Chris Van Cuyk by hitting his 13th home run of the season and racking up 4 RBI's.Dick Sisler also had a good day going 2 for 3 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored. As for the Cubs young pitcher,Van Cuyk went 5 and 2/3 allowing 5 hits 4 walks and 3 earned runs.He also struck out 3 Phillie batters.Bill Serena's double in the 4th was Chicago's only hit.The Phillies head out to St Louis next for a 3 game series with the third place Cardinals(31-25).

    Antonelli improves to 8-2

Schoendienst Leads RedBirds Past Phillies 4-2
Sportsman's Park,St. Louis-Cardinals SS Red Schoendienst defined what it means to be a leader today and his team rallied around him on their way to victory.Early on,both pitchers were in control of the game with the only run through four being a Del Ennis home run giving the Phils a 1-0 lead.In the bottom half of the 5th with the Cardinals doing nothing Red Schoendienst surprised everyone with a lead off bunt single that energized the St Louis bench.Stan Musial then lined a single to right giving St Louis runners on the corners with no outs.Tommy Glaviano then came to the plate and hit a short fly ball to right field for an out,but to the surprise of everyone,Schoendienst tagged and headed home like a locomotive with no brakesWhat followed was a massive collision between Red and Phils catcher Andy Seminick. Both men were down, the ball was on the ground and the game was tied!.St Louis used that momentum to score 3 more times in the inning and went on to win by the score of 4-2.On the hill,St Louis sent 8 year veteran Howie Pollet who recorded his seventh victory of the season going 9 innings and allowing 10 hits and 1walk with 2 earned runs.He also fanned 4.Besides Schoendienst,Stan Musial did his usual, going 2 for 2 with a walk and a run scored. For Philadelphia,Ken Heintzelman went 8 full allowing 9 hits 4 walks and 4 runs(3 earned).he struck out 2.At the plate Del Ennis and Puddin Head Jones were 3 for 4 with Ennis hitting a home run.

Phillies Land Martin In Deal With Athletics!
Philadelphia,Pa.-The Phillies have finally acquired a young second baseman they so desperately needed, but did they pay too much?Phils GM John Gindville confirmed today that the Phillies have struck a deal with the Philadelphia Athletics to bring 21 year old Billy Martin in to the fold.In return, the Athletics will receive excellent relief man Bob Miller who this year has appeared in 11 games with 19 innings pitched. He has a 2-1 record and a 4.26 ERA.Martin was the A's second round draft pick in this years draft. While not at all popular with the fans the Phils GM thinks he's made a deal that'll shore up the middle infield for years to come. When asked about the trade Gindville said that although the fans are unhappy now, they'll love Martin once they see him play."He's an absolute ball of fire out there,100% fire and brimstone, the exact type of player this team needs to be successful.Besides Gindville said,"Eppie(Eddie Miller) isn't getting any younger and we needed a guy in the pipeline that can grow with this young team"."We're now set with quality players at every position and they're all under 25! I understand the shock,I really do.Miller is a hell of a pitcher who'll go on to a great career but the bottom line is when we drafted Labine,Miller became expendable. As for the last place Athletics, they need pitching, and they need it now. They're ranked dead last in virtually every pitching category in the AL.The trade for Miller as well as the drafting of Bob Hooper is definitely a step in the right direction but this team has a long way to go.

                    Billy Martin

                    Bob Miller
