Green With Envy -=- chestnutz' Ohio Bobcats (NCAA08)

Alright, before I get started, I'd like to say this is my first time doing an NCAA dynasty on here. I've done college hoops ones, but never an NCAA, so bear with me, and give me advice or suggestions, or even some nice words would make me feel quite nice

I just got the game, so I'm still trying to figure out some of the kinks. The game recaps will be similar to Matt10's and GJEM's, with photoshopped pictures.

    ---

    Green With Envy

Game: EA Sports NCAA Football 08
    System: Xbox 360
    Difficulty: All-American
    Quarters: 7 minutes
    Sliders: Matt10's

Season Preview next, with the first game update after that.

Note: Ohio State wasn't on Ohio's real roster, but I wanted to make their schedule a bit tougher, cause it was definitely the easiest in the conference, so I replaced a 1AA team.

Anything else feel free to tell me.

    2007/2008 Ohio Bobcats Media Guide

    Stars: 2
    Overall: B

    2006 Record: 9-5

    Stadium: Peden Stadium

Peden is the oldest stadium in the MAC, opening in 1929 and seating over 24,000. Because of it’s many renovations, it’s often called “The Wrigley Field of 1A Football.”

    2007/2008 Ohio Bobcats Schedule

    6 (Sat, 10/6, 3:30) @ Buffalo

    Coaching

The current head coach is Frank Solich, the former head coach of Nebraska. The 63 year old is 13-12 at hio>, and 71-31 overall in his career. In 2006, he took the team to the GMAC bowl, where they would lost 28-7 to Southern Miss. Still, Solich’s impact on the program is huge, and should continue to improve the Wildcats until they become a top Mid-Major team.

    Roster

    * = Impact Player
    ** = Captain

    Quarterbacks
#14 Brad Bower: 82 ovr, 6’2, Sr (RS)
    #10 Brandon Jones: 74 ovr, 6’0, Jr

Analysis: Bower has some experience, playing sparingly in 2005 and 2006. In ’06, he had over 400 yards passing, 1 TD, and 7 INT, which doesn’t seem to bode well for the Bobcats this year. Jones is a bit faster, and might see some playing time as he’ll probably be the starter next year.

    Runningbacks
    #5 Kalvin McCrae: 89 ovr, 5’11, Sr (RS) *
    #31 Josh Abrams: 80 ovr, 6’0, Sr
#25 Joel Scipio: 73 ovr, 5’11, So (RS)

Analysis: McCrae is no doubt the star of the offense and the team, was the first Ohio halfback in 30 years to rush for back-to-back 1000 yard seasons, and has played well in his previous 3 years, totaling 26 TD, and going for 1252 rushing yards and 29 catches last year. He’s a bit small, but will bowl defenders over at a rapid pace, and only gets better the more he gets hit. Abrams is a formidable backup, but has never played much.

    Fullbacks
#39 Mitch Morsillo: 77 ovr, 6’1, So (RS)

    Wide Receivers
    #17 Chido Nwokocha: 84 ovr, 6’0, Sr **
#86 Justin Fitzgerald: 83 ovr, 6’3, Sr (RS)
#28 Chris Garrett: 75 ovr, 5’8, So (RS)
#15 Robert Preston: 75 ovr, 6’1, Jr (RS)

Analysis: Nwokocha is a very well balanced, hands type of receiver, who can secure the ball for a first time or go deep. Last year, he caught 20 passes for 201 yards. Fitzgerald is the big, redzone receiver, as he uses his 6’3’’ frame to shrug off cornerbacks. Garrett is the opposite, as he is easily the fastest wide-out, although he’s only 5’8’’. He is also the PR man and one of the best in the conference.

    Tight Ends
    #84 David Carter: 81 ovr, 6’5, Sr
#57 Chris Rodgers: 74 ovr, 6’5, So (RS)

    Left Tackles
#73 Gary Schussler: 74 ovr, 6’3, So (RS)

    Left Guards
    #77 Paul Johnson: 81 ovr, 6’2, Sr
#58 David White: 77 ovr, 6’1, So (RS)

    Centers
    #66 Tommy Stuck: 77 ovr, 6’1, Jr
    #64 Josh Leuck: 74 ovr, 6’3, Jr

    Right Guards
#79 Matt Miller: 81 ovr, 6’3, Sr (RS)

    Right Tackles
#52 David Shelby: 78 ovr, 6’4, Sr (RS)

OL Analysis: The cement of the offensive line for McCrae to follow will be on the right side, as seniors Matt Miller and David Shelby should provide some great holes for the star runningback. The whole line should be able to protect Bower well, only giving up 20 sacks last year, and remains very solid after some key losses last year.

    Left Ends
    #90 Jameson Hartke: 85 ovr, 6’4, Jr *
    #91 Alan Goff: 79 ovr, 6’4, Sr

    Right Ends
#54 Kris Lushsinger: 83 ovr, 6’4, So (RS)
    #97 Eric Kenkel: 81 ovr, 6’3, Jr

    Defensive Tackles
    #55 Landon Cohen: 86 ovr, 6’3, Sr **
#94 Bret Sykes: 81 ovr, 6’2, Sr (RS)

DL Analysis: The D-line is extremely talented and experienced, but seriously lacks depth. Hartke is a star on the left side, and sophomore Lushsinger is formidable on the right. The interior of the line is talented and experienced as well, with defensive captain Landon Cohen leading the way.

    Left Outside Linebackers
    #48 Jordan Meyers: 80 ovr, 6’0, Jr

    Middle Linebackers
#56 Taj Henley: 80 ovr, 6’1, Sr (RS)
    #19 Chris Hall: 73 ovr, 6’1, Jr

    Right Outside Linebackers
#35 Michael Brown: 79 ovr, 6’3, Jr (RS)
#44 Chad Clemens: 75 ovr, 5’11, Fr (RS)

LB Analysis: The linebackers are the weak spot of the defense. Jordan Meyers should hold his own on the left, and Taj Henley is pretty big and fast, but they lack the oomph that the other sets of the defense bring.

    Cornerbacks
    #24 Mark Parson: 81 ovr, 5’10, Jr
#22 Shannon Ballard: 72 ovr, 5’11, Fr (RS)
    #30 Dustin Tatum: 70 ovr, 5’11, Jr

    Free Safeties
    #6 Tony Ward: 86 ovr, 5’11, Sr
    #34 Michael Mitchell: 83 ovr, 6’1, Jr

    Strong Safeties
    #8 Todd Koenig: 88 ovr, 6’2, Sr *
    #7 Ervin Jackson: 73 ovr, 6’0, Sr

Secondary Analysis: Like the defensive line, the secondary is very talented, but won’t be too deep for long. 3 of the safeties graduate, which leaves a lot of stepping up to do in the coming years by recruits. Until then, Koenig and Ward form probably the top safety tandems in the MAC, and should be able to compensate for the weak, inexperienced cornerbacks. Parson, however, remains one of the top cover-corners in the MAC as a junior.

    Kicker
    #41 Michael Braunstein: 82 ovr, 5’6, Fr

    Punter
    #43 Matt Schulte: 70 ovr, 6’0, Jr

    Final Thoughts

The 07 season could bode very well for this experienced Bobcat squad. Their running game is potent, and should be one of the best in the MAC. However, Ohio’s passing game will need to improve greatly from their 129 YPG last year (115th nationally). MAC teams will have to get used to having the ball run down their throats all year. Ohio’s defense will play key in conference games and key ones at Ohio Stateand Virginia Tech. Their 18th ranked passing defense should be the core of the group, and the line will hold up well, but the linebackers will be the Achilles Heel for this squad. We predict an 8-4 record for the Bobcats this year, and could very well make a bowl game.
