Coach MattG was hired midway through last year and led the Gators to an 11-2 season, with their only losses coming to Kentucky and Florida State.
In the first round of the playoffs Florida easily dispatched TCU 40-14 behind the running of all SEC halfback Paul Gonzales.
Unfortunately the Gators once again though ran into the buzz saw known as the Seminoles in the second round, and lost a heart breaker 33-32.
With Gonzales and star QB Robert Carter graduating, the Gators believe this season will be a rebuilding year depending on how their recruiting goes.
So far six recruits have signed on the dotted line with two of them being 5* wideouts in Melvin McCarthy and Bert Worley. Melvin is a 6'6 standout from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida and more than likely will start his freshman year.
Other signings are FB Steven Shepherd, ILB Gary Jones, TE Ryan Meyers, SS Robert Grady, and CB Phillip Wheeler. All of those are 4* recruits, with Shepherd, Jones, and Meyers all showing the most promise.
Florida coaches currently are heavily recruiting QB David Jeffers and RB Luther Sierra to take the place of their departed stars. Both are rated as 4* and the Gators need to reel them in if they have any hopes of competing in the SEC next season.
