![]() | Wednesday, November 25th, 1964: SP Kaat Agrees to New Pact with Phillies Philadelphia management was cautiously optimistic this afternoon as Jim Kaat formally signed a $1,570,170 contract with the organization. Known for his flippant, carefree attitude, and for his lack of loyalty to a club, many in the upper echelon feared the temperamental starting pitcher would cause a scene, or, worse yet, back out of the deal at the last minute. Neither happened, and the fans are warming up to the deal, provided Kaat confines his talking to the diamond. During his career Kaat's won-lost record is 42 wins and 53 losses with a 3.85 ERA. He has limited other teams to a .253 average. |
