The Career of Jeremy Moore (NCAA 08)

The Diary of Coach Jeremy Moore
    -----------------------------------------------------
    January 7th, 2008

"Les Miles will just sit on the ball as the clock will run down and LSU will become the BCS National Champions. There is the snap and the knee. That is the ball game, the LSU Tigers have become the BCS National Champions by beating Ohio State 38-24"

I just sat there and watched the whole game unfold before me. I knew that some day I would be on the sidelines of a NCAA Team and I will be leading them to that kind of glory. I knew it would be forever before I actually got a shot at coaching on the College Level. I just graduated college and got my degree in Athletics, or whatever degree it is called. I went to the University of Arkansas and almost got to play football for them but a problem in my academics caused me to miss it. After I graduated I started to call all the colleges around for a job, no success. It has been nearly a year and still no coaching job, and now I am watching the greatest College Football game. I only wish that I could be on the sidelines watching my team bring the championship home.

I turned the TV off and went into the kitchen with my wife Lisa. She was cooking some of my best dish, The Hispanic Omlet. It was awesome, I ate it all. After dinner I was going to watch some movies with my wife and then the phone rang. It was my neighbor, Steven Jackson.

    Jeremy: Hello?
    Steven: Kevin you watching ESPN?
    Jeremy: No why?
Steven: Turn it on quick, you are being mentioned!

I was stunned, I quickly flipped the TV on and went to ESPN. Sportscenter was on and was doing a report on how several football programs will be losing their coaches. I knew this was a long shot because this has happened once before. Then it showed some of the programs' lists of considered coaches. I only saw three with my name on it. I was so excited, I hoped that one of those teams would choose me as their next head coach.

I did what I promised Lisa and watched movies with her. After we was done we went to bed. I couldn't sleep because of the continous thoughts of head coach running through my head. I really hoped it was my time to bring BCS to my future team's name!

Re: The Career of Jeremy Moore (NCAA 08)

    January 8th, 2008

I woke up to the sound of Lisa crying. I didn't understand why until I got into the living room. She was watching ESPN News. They reported that ESPN 2 will be hosting brand new show called Coaching Carousel. They also reported that the first coach that will be given their choice of what team he or she wanted to coach was Jeremy Moore. I was shocked yet again. After I heard that statement my phone began to ring. It was Steven Jackson again.

    Jeremy: Hello?
Steven: I just heard the news, congratulations!!
Jeremy: Thanks, but I won't have time to think about the team I want to coach. The show is tomorrow!
Steven: OH CRAP! Well, think long and hard about it tonight! You only have one choice so make it wise.
Jeremy: Thanks Steven, talk to you later.
Steven: Alright man take it easy.
    Jeremy: Bye.

I hung the phone up, and stared at Lisa. She was still crying out a river. Then she suddenly jumped up and jumped into my arms. We started to yell and scream happiness into the air. Lisa then looked at me with a odd look.

    Jeremy: What is it?
Lisa: What team are you going to coach?
Jeremy: I don't know, haven't thought about it yet.
Lisa: Well you better start thinking!
Jeremy: Yeah, let me go get the NCAA Book out!

I went to my computer and went to dig for the NCAA Book of Teams, then my computer beeped. I looked up and saw that I had a new message from the NCAA. I opened it and it confirmed me getting to choose what team to coach, and it gave me a list of teams that I could coach. The teams were as followed:

    Air Force
    Akron
    Arkansas
    Arkansas State
    Army
    Ball State
    Buffalo
    Central Michigan
    Colorado State
    Duke
    ECU
    FIU
    Idaho
    Louisiana Tech
    Marshall
    Miami University
    Mississippi State
    Navy
    New Mexico
    Notre Dame
    Ohio
    Rice
    San Diego State
    TCU
    Texas A&M
    Toledo
    Troy
    UAB
    Wyoming

Those were the teams that I could choose, and I had the first pick. It was hard and I only had 24 hours to think about it. I printed the list out and gave it to Lisa, we than sat down to think about it and after we was finished, we went to bed.

      January 9th, 2008 - Decision Making Time

Well it was time for me to get up and get dressed. I was nervous, I still didn't have a team that I wanted to coach yet. Lisa told me that I might as well wait until I am on the podium about to announce my team before making any decisions. I took her advice, I ate breakfast with her real fast and then I had to hit the road. I was 2 hours away from ESPN HQ where I was going to make the biggest decision in my life.

When I arrived there was camera people there to greet me. They then ran me inside the building as the show was about to start. I could not think straight. I heard the countdown then I heard it start.

Scott: Welcome to ESPN's Coaching Carousel. Tonight we have one coach that has been selected by the NCAA to choose a football program of his choice from a list to coach. With us right now to announce his decision is Coach Jeremy Moore!

I heard my name called, I walked onto the stage and sat down next to Scott. I was so nervous that I forgot where I was at. Then the time came!

Scott: So Coach Moore, do you have a decision for the whole world on what team you will be coaching next year?
Jeremy: Well I thought about it long and hard, but I finally came up with a decision.
      Scott: What is it?
      Jeremy: I will be coaching......

This was it, even if I get boos from everyone I will know that I finished the job. I couldn't spit a team out so I said the first thing that came to my mouth.

      Jeremy: the Arkansas Razorbacks!!
Scott: Well there you have it Razorback fans, Kevin Lee will be taking the reigns at Arkansas.

I felt better, everyone was cheering. No boo was heard, I felt like a million bucks. I decided to drive back home and go to the campus later that night with my wife to meet the team. When I got home I recieved a phone call.

      Jeremy: Hello?
Jeff Long: Hey Coach Moore, this is Jeff Long the Athletic Director for Arkansas. I heard you will be the new coach and wanted to inform you to be down here in 5-6 months to start summer practice before season start.
Jeremy: Don't worry I will be down there in late June!
Jeff Long: Thanks man, talk to you later, bye!

I had 5 months to come up with the ultimate coaching plan for the Razorbacks. I decided to start A.S.A.P

(*This is my last entry until June*)

June 23rd, 2008 - First Day of Practice

        Day 1 Practice Schedule
        -----------------------------------------------------------
        • Gear Assignments
        • Pass Skeleton *All QBs*
        • Oklahoma Drills *All HBs & FBs*
        • Pass Skeleton *WRs*
        • Day 1 Scrimmage *Red vs. White*

        Gear Assignments
        --------------------------------------------

I made them all sign their gear out. I didn't care if there was another sheet already made with it signed out, I wanted them to sign their stuff out. There was a few players that had complaints about this but I really didn't care. There is always complaints on first day of new coach. Well Gear Assignments is going to take about an hour, I will write more when we complete the 1st Pass Skeleton!

        Pass Skeleton *QB Work*
        ---------------------------------------------

All Quarterbacks ran 20 plays. Graded on Completions and TDs.

        Casey Dick - 11/20, 3 TDs, 2 INTs

        Nathan Emert - 15/20, 8 TDs, 1 INT

        Clark Irwin - 8/20, 1 TD, 5 INTs

I am very impressed with Emert's peformance. Clark Irwin needs a lot of work before he will be considered for the starting position. Casey needs a little work but he is up there with Emert. I will write again with the results of the Oklahoma Drills.

        Oklahoma Drills
        -----------------------------------------

Ten Rushes, Graded on Yards and TDs

        Darren McFadden - 10 Att, 100 Yards, 1 TD

        Felix Jones - 10 Att, 156 Yards, 3 TDs

        Michael Smith - 10 Att, 149 Yards, 3 TDs

I am impressed with Jones and Smith, but McFadden should be producing more for a Heisman Runner Up. I am very concerned about McFadden's rushing abilities. I will be back with the Pass Skeleton WR Mode results.

        Pass Skeleton *Defensive Work*
        -------------------------------------------

20 Plays, Graded on Knockdowns and INTs.

        Defense: 20 Passes, 6 Knockdowns 6 Interceptions

The defense did good, I am very impressed. When season start comes around the corner I will be expecting alot more hard work out of them. I hope to have this defense in full swing by September! Red White Scrimmage Time

        Red vs. White Summer Scrimmage
        -------------------------------------------

        White Team Starters:
        ---------------------------------
        QB: Nathan Emert
        HB: Felix Jones
        FB: Farod Jackson
WR: London Crawford, Rod Colemon, Reggie Fish
        TE: Ben Cleveland

        HB: Darren McFadden

        BY THE NUMBERS...
        GAME BALL...
        Arkansas 3 7 0 0-10
        Arkansas 147 73 -31

This is pretty intresting, but I think you should add a little bit more of a coaching background, becasue no man can never have coaching experience and then jump right into the NCAA head coach job. Other than that, it's a fairly intresting read.

                September 1st, 2008 - A Day To Remember!

It was a day to remember. I ran out onto the Oklahoma field with my team and I got to feel what every coach feels. It was an awesome feeling. We peformed great that day, our rushing game was a little low but we still survived. We got our first win today, and I guess the Sooners didn't bring their game with them. Below is the final game and individual player stats.

                BY THE NUMBERS...
                GAME BALL...
                Arkansas 7 10 14 10-41
                Oklahoma 90 07 -16
                Casey Dick
                19-26, 239 Yds, 3 TDs

                PASSING
                -------------------------------------------
                Casey Dick: 19 for 26, 239 Yards, 3 TDs

                RUSHING
                -------------------------------------------
Felix Jones: 26 Att, 167 Yards, 2 TD
Darren McFadden: 6 Att, 50 Yards
Michael Smith: 3 Att, 26 Yards
Peyton Hillis: 2 Att, 22 Yards

Farod Jackson: 1 Att, 4 Yards
Casey Dick: 6 Att, -5 Yards

This has been a great day and I hope to have more of these in the future. We are now 1-0 and I cannot wait to report how we are in the polls to you. That is when you will hear from me next. We travel to take on Boise State next!
