The Herd is back. (NCAA 09) (Going to commit)

    SYNDER OUT AS HEAD COACH
    Baker Steps In.

Mark Synder was fired yesterday morning from the Head Coach position at Marshall University after a miserable 3-9 season, winning only against Rice, ECU, and UAB. The search for a new coach took only a day- most of Synders staff was dismissed. At 9:45 last night, Don Baker was asked to step in as Head Coach. Baker will bring along his staff from the Live Oak team, a D-3 team the just won their second D-3 title. Baker will hold a press conference today at 3:00 to answer any questions and to talk about the future of the program.

        WELCOME TO NEXT YEAR
        Herd Trample Illinois State, 59-0

Don Baker made a pretty good entry in the D-1 football world by "systematically destroying" The helpless Redbirds. Baker didn't want the press to get too giddy about the win, even though it was against an inferior opponnet. "Yes, it was a good game, but we only have a week to prepare for Wisconsin. Were not gonna sit on our asses and let them thump us. We may not win, but we will damn sure try." This was a game the Coach Baker got a feel for his offence, and is still getting adjusted to his surroundings here in Huntington. RB Chubb Small had 205 yards on the day, with 3 TD's and QB Jonathon Gardner; who played the first half only, was 6-9 on the day with 2 TD's. Other QB Wesely Beardain went 7-11 with 1 TD. It is still a mystery who Baker will Start Next Saturday agaisnt Wisconsin.

          NO WAY!
Unranked Marshall upsets #8 Wisconsin 35-28

It Wasn't quite App State over Michgan, but it did stun the College football world. The game was only broadcasted by Channel 8 in Madison, but you bet CBS and ESPN were updating everybody around the nation. It started out with a Marshall touchdown, a hard nose play where RB Small got the ball 11 times and racked up 34 yards, which climaxed when he scroed on a 10 yard gut run. Wisconsin picked up the peices on both sides of the ball, and soon The Herd were down 14-7. Marshall was at it again in the late 2nd, but a costy Interception throw by Gardner, who got the start, erased the drive. After Halftime Wisconsin got on the boards quickly, a 41 yard bomb from Sherer to Emanuel put Wisconsin up 21-7. Marshall blanked a 3 and out drive, leaving the Defense to hold the Wisconsin Offence, which they did, on 3 straight plays. "That got us motivated. We were ready." Said Herd RB Small. "We knew we had to make some heads roll." 3 plays later, Small was in the endzone after a 40-yard run. As a silence fell over the Wisconsin crowd at Camp Randall, there was a kickoff the the Badgers. This time Wisconsin Drove down the field, scoring on a 28 yard flick from Sherer to FB Rentmeester gave Camp Randall he energy to make it hard for the Marshall Offence. Marshall simply gave the ball off to Small, and he evntually delivered, a 5 yard run for gold. With the score 28-21 and 3:50 left to play, it was now or never for The Herd. But Marshall played conservative D, and got the ball to the Offence with 3:00 left to play. This drive was more pass-orentated, and scored on a flick from Gardner to Small for a 10 yard run, and only chewed :49 off the clock. A Kitchens interception on the first play of the Badger's first drive took a collective breathe out of Camp Randall. In one play, The Herd Tied it up with a controversial call by the Ref. Tied at 28 with 3:08 left to play, the Wisconsin Defence made an case for a TD, before being Denied at the 40. Gardner was antsy, and Baker burned a timeout to Settle him down. It was on a 3rd and 1 when Baker decided to haul it up the middle when small took it the distance-49 Yards to the endzone for a TD. Wisconsin could not a completion and the clock did not strike midnight for Cinderella.

            TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY
Marshall Wins over Memphis 44-32, Star RB Small Injured

Chubb Small was on his way into the record books. He was 8 yards shy of Breaking an NCAA record with 398 yards on the day. The record was 406, and Chubb needed a first down run to get it late in the 4th. He was given the ball on a sweep and went for about 5 yards, before being pulled down. But when he didn't get up, a hush fell over the crowd. Chubb was carried off of the field with a dislocated elbow, he would be out for 5 weeks, and 8 yards shy of a record. He did, however, set a new school record. Memphis was losing big, but scored 3 times when Marshall put its backups in. There were 3 Safeties scored in this game, 1 by Marshall and 2 by Memphis.

              ICE!
Herd Inch past Eagles with Leg of Ratanamorn, 27-28

The Herd's magic hasn't run out yet, as the Herd increased their win streak to 5. But this one was a repaet of the Wisconsin game, where a couple of key drives where erased by 1 or 2 plays. It was a tight one going into the half, 7-7. Marshall received after the half, and failed to score. When the Eagles received the punt, they quickly scored, taking the lead early in the 3rd. Then, an inexpienced Wingate fumbled the kickoff, resuleting in golden eagle ball inside the Marshall 30. Southern Miss took advantage of this and scored off a Field Goal. 20-7 Southern Miss, and Marshall needed to regoup. But the Eagle Defense wasn't going to let Marshall score, and vice versa. Marshall did score on the next possesion, a Poe 14 yard run. Southen Miss also scored on the next possesion, a 1 yard Davidson run. With the score 27-14 and 4:01 left, Baker knew he had to rally the trops somehow. So after 3 punishing gut runs by Young, Baker ordered a 4th and 1 Play Action pass, a button hook by Edmonson, who ran for 10 extra yards, a total 25 yard gain. On a 4th and 5, Baker decided to go for a 3 instead of passing. 27-17, Golden Eagles. Then, Marshall scored on a 29 yard PA pass to who else- Edmonson. Baker tried to rally the troops by running young up the middle for 2-which worked. 27-25 Golden Eagles. But there only :45 left on the clock, and a almost pick by Jacobs ended up being a first down for Southen Miss. Luckily, the Herd got the ball back with :15 left on the 30. Baker decided to pass to get closer, and a complete pass to Slate over the middle got the ball to the 20. The Herd blew 8 seconds left off the clock, leaving 2. Ratanamorn hit the chip shot for the win.

Nice win over Southern Miss. I guess Chubb Small could have helped in the game

Have you thought about moving the difficulty to Heisman? Might actually get you a couple of losses in your first year or two.
