    (0-1)@(1-0)

    King's drop season-opener @ NO
    102-85

In their first game of the year the Kings traveled to New Orleans to face off against the Hornets. There would be several key match ups, namely how highly touted rookie forward Jason Thompson would fare against all star David West.

The first half would be a closely contested game, with no team getting the better of each other. Score at the half was 47-47. Things began falling apart for the Kings in the second half, and looking up for Hornets. David West rattled off six straight points to begin the third quarter to push the Hornets ahead 53-47 and they never looked back from their. Chris Paul's fine passing, and plenty of help from bench players Mike James and James Posey took the Hornets to their first win of the year.

Not everything was bad for the Kings though, they saw a lot of good things from their players. Rookies Jason Thompson and Donte Green both had great games, and Kevin Martin was scoring as well as ever going 11-19 from the field. Thompson impressed with his defense, including three great blocks, and Donte Greene showed his ability to beat defenders off the dribble with ease.
