After trying to use Western Michigan, UNC and Stanford and winning way too many games (only lost 3 in 6 total seasons together) I have decided to start with a completely horrible team - The Buffalo Bulls.

I have been working on this quite a bit. I will be updating the blog frequently and posting brief game recaps here.

I have a very mediocre team in every respect- that should mean no Heisman this season if ever, lol... no national title (I play @ Pitt and Mizzou) not to mention I am in the MAC...

    Bulls Fight Off UTEP

UTEP came out firing. After throwing two 69 yard TD passes the Miners led the game 17-10 going into the second half.

That was when Buffalo's new coach came into the locker room fuming. It was after he threw a chair across the room that his players saw him smiling. To the surprise of everyone he wasn't angry. He simply told his team that he thought it was funny that UTEP thought they could come to Buffalo and win. The team took it as a sign of new pride and faith that their coach had in them and the university.

Buffalo came out in the second half ready to lay the smack down.

They picked off the UTEP quarterback twice in the second half- the first pick set the tone.

Thanks.... They are AWFUL! It is so hard for me to really enjoy using them because they are so slow.

I have to deal with McCoy next at Pitt... he is going to run all over me.

          Buffalo Makes A Statement

"Leave No Doubt" - The new Buffalo Coach Marktg30 said as he sent his offense out in the second half.

The Buffalo Bulls were 28 point underdogs coming in to face Pitt and their star running back LeSean McCoy. In the 2nd quarter McCoy showed everyone why- as he reeled off a 93 yard TD, breaking 4 tackles and sprinting down the right sideline.

Buffalo answered less than 30 seconds later when Naaman Roosevelt caught a Drew Willy pass and ran 72 yards to paydirt.Buffalo led 21-10 at the half and never let go of the lead as they went on to score 35 points in the second half. James Starks put the nail in the coffin when he scored on runs of 56 and 78 yards in the 4th quarter.

          Final Score
          Buffalo 56 - Pitt 24

          Passing-
          Drew Willy - 9/12, 202 yards - 2 TDs 1 INT

          Rushing-
James Starks- 13 Rushes for 193 Yards and 2 TDs
Mario Henry- 5 for 79 yards and 2 TDs

              Buffalo Runs Past Temple
The Bulls have won their first 3 games of the 2008 season- mostly due to the play of Junior Half Back James Starks. He has dominated opponents and Temple was no different. While many were surprised with the Pitt victory Temple was less of a worry.

The Bulls were not untouchable as their Defense showed vulnerability after losing their starting Defensive End for the season and Safety for 7 weeks.

It is possible that Buffalo was looking forward to their next game against #4 Missouri. If they have any hope of merely staying with Missouri they better keep their focus and play their game.

Bulls Fall To Maclin and Mizzou

It looked ugly from the beginning. The opening kick was taken back 103 yards by Jeremy Maclin and Buffalo looked like the under-achieving group they were predicted to be at the beginning of the year. Down 21-0 after the first quarter, Buffalo looked like boys playing against men. Until James Starks picked up his team and virtually carried them on his back as Buffalo scored 21 points in the 2nd quarter. Missouri scored 17 in the 2nd qtr to take a 38-21 lead at Half. Maclin's first quarter production was 234 total yards and 3 touchdowns.

Buffalo scored at the beginning of the second half to pull withing 10 points and that was as close as they would get- but not before turning some heads with the performance of a team trying to prove themselves.

James Starks set a school record with 6 rushing TDs to go with 264 yards rushing. Quarterback Drew Willy was 17 of 24 for 313 yards and 2 INTs. Starks looked impressive as he caught the eye of several NFL scouts that were there to see Maclin and Daniel

This was overshadowed by the performance of Chase Daniel, Jeremy Maclin and Jimmy Jackson.

                Here's their final numbers
Daniel- 21/27.....415 yards....6 TDs (new school record) and no INTs
                Jackson- 5 receptions....105 yards....2 TDs
Maclin- 266 total yards and 4 TDs

                Final Score
                Missouri -62
                Buffalo- 51

                  The Meltdown

We knew he was bringing a new attitude to Buffalo football, but after losing to now #2 ranked Missouri by only eleven points he made headlines across the nation - for better or worse.

"If any of you think this was a surprise (the Bulls scoring over 50 points and staying within 11 of Mizzou) you are sorely mistakin'. We stayed with one of the best teams in the nation today and there is no reason we should have lost. My players didn't lose the game- it was all on the coaching staff. We fixed the defensive problem we had in the 1st half with Maclin by double and triple teaming him...usually only double...and switching to a Quarters Defense. With that said, I also want to address a question posed in The Buffalo News."- He raised up a news clipping and read.

"The Buffalo Bulls should prove to be another disappointment. Even with a new coach we will most likely have another losing season and perform more like a high school team than a Division 1 College Football Team."

Then came what will only be known as either the meltdown or the biggest pep talk of the 2008 season.

"If anyone at the Buffalo News wants to give up on our team they had better get the F*** out of Buffalo! I will promise you this- we expect to win. Personally, I think we will be out of the MAC within the next three years. God willing we will be stomping teams by 40 and 50 points and shoving this BullS*** down the throats of any doubters!"

Well... Here's hoping for his sake that he can deliver.

                    Three Weeks Later

104 Points... That is the scoring difference between Buffalo and it's last two opponents- Central Michigan and Western Michigan.

After their coaches rant the Bulls responded in impressive fashion.

James Starks could be a dark horse in the Heisman race and Drew Willy is starting to become a more dependable starting quarterback.

There have been calls for the coaching staff to let up when they are up by 28 points- when asked about this James Starks only replied "Who's the high school team now?"

While he may have a point, there is a reason why the Ohio University paper 'The Post' has nicknamed him "The Mouth".

Oh and by the way, the scores of the last two games-

                    Buffalo 66
                    Central Michigan 7

                    and

                    Buffalo 66
                    Western Michigan 21

                    Up Next -

                    Army

A Note From The Moron (ME)

Wondering how in the hell I beat those last two teams by so much, I realized that somehow my difficulty was changed from Heisman to Varsity...

You should see some better (more interesting games)... and hopefully some losses in the MAC.

                        An Army Of One

James Starks has garnered the attention of many people with his mouth (referring to his remarks about his opponents being high school varsity players instead of college level) but now he is known around the nation as the leader is rushing yards and TDs going into week 9.

with 1178 yards and 23 TDs he is 12 TDs ahead of Evan Royster of Penn State and 28 yards ahead of Kyle Bell of Colorado State.

His latest victim was Army- 94 yards and 3 TDs in a 52-24 rout.

Up next, the school that gave him his nickname-

                        @ Ohio.

                          Bulls Get Mauled By Bobcats

The Mouth was shut down and held under 100 yards for the second straight game.

Ohio used a solid balanced attack and drove down the field again and again as they dominated the Bulls. The game fell well out of reach after starting QB Drew Willy left the game in the 3rd quarter with a bruised thigh.
Ed Young gets picked off late in the game

Coach Marktg30 was less vocal than he had been in some time. Rightfully so. After dominating two .500 teams by 104 points combined he was beaten by a 1-7 Ohio team that is looking for answers in an off season. Perhaps this victory will help them on their quest as much as it should help Buffalo.

Buffalo became bowl eligible after defeating Army last week, but if they play anyone like they played OU they are in trouble.

                          Final Score-
                          Buffalo 21
                          Ohio 42

                            Back On Track

With the bumps and bruised ego of the Bulls still on the mend after the OU game, it was time to move on. That is just what they did when Miami (OH) came into snowy Buffalo.

With Starks shutting his mouth and playing some hard nosed ball, the Bulls were able to win a hard faught game 20-7. It showed a true growth when Buffalo was able to play the entire game with no penalties. Miami had 4 for 45 yards which most likely added to the reasons why they lost.

The last game on my schedule is against Kent State.... They are 9-0 and ranked #7 in the BCS.... I can't wait to stomp them into Sim Heaven!
