    Ron Pruitt highlighted a 5-run 5th inning with a 3-run homer as the Indians defeated the Red Sox, 8-4. Rick Wise scattered 11 hits and 4 runs in 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Allen Ripley was ripped and Reggie Cleveland was blasted by the Indians lineup as the garnered 6 hits off each of them.

    Carlton Fisk went 3-4 and drove in 5 runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th to break a 5-5 tie, as the Red Sox split the two game series with the Indians, 7-5. Dick Drago pitched two shut out innings in relief of Torrez and Burgmeier to pick up the win while Wayne Garland was wacked around for 14 hits and 7 runs to take the loss.

    The Red Sox offense, led by Rick Burleson's 3-5, 5 RBI night, knocked around Rangers' start Jon Matlack for 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings as Boston romped over Texas, 12-5. Dennis Eckersley (1-1) allowed 5 runs on 8 hits for 8 innings to earn the victory.

    An error by Butch Hobson sets up Texas's first run of the ball game then the Rangers battered around the Red Sox bullpen as the Rangers evened the weekend series with a 6-1 win on Saturday. Rangers' start Jim Umbarger was the star of the game as he allowed only 3 hits and 1 run in 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Al Oliver was 3-5 with an RBI to pace the Texas attack with Davey Johnson hitting a 3-run homer in the top of the 9th to provide insurance.

    The Texas Rangers' attack roughed up Boston starter Allen Ripley and the rest of the pitchers for 8 extra base hits en route to a 12-3 drubbing over the Red Sox. Mike Hargrove led the way by going 4-5 with a home run and 2 RBI and Fergie Jenkins went the distance for the win. Allen Ripley only lasted 3 2/3 innings and took the loss. The Red Sox loss drops them to 6th place in the AL East, 2 1/2 games behind the front running Milwaukee Brewers.

        Wow,other than Campbell who's hardly pitched,your bullpen is a mess and your starters have a had a rough go of it as well,but a little home cookin' next week can cure all that.

          I've alieviated part of the bullpen problem by shipping someone off early in the week. I'm hoping that the starters can start going late into ballgames. The bullpen is being overworked.

          It has certainly been a crazy first two weeks of the season. Just look at the two players on top of the NL in home runs!!!!

            Its crazy what you get sometimes early on,In my 1949 replay,Puddin Head Jones hit 10 homers in the first 3 weeks of the season to lead the league by a wide margin,he hit 4 more the rest of the year.Other times though,guys have career years like in my 64' replay.Richie Allen almost single handedly won me the pennant with an absolutely amazing season in which he batted .375 with 29 home runs 138 RBI and 105 runs scored.I guess what I'm getting at is the game has the perfect balance of realism mixed with statistical variance so that overall league numbers will be where they should be but on a player by player basis you will have enough unpredictability to keep you guessing.Its just an amazing game,the greatest sports game I've ever played.

Robin Yount was also 3-5 as Milwaukee pounded Mike Torrez and the Boston bullpen for 15 hits. Lary Sorensen allowed run producing singles to Rick Burleson and Carl Yastrzemski in the 6th inning and an RBI ground out by Carlton Fisk en route to the complete game victory.

Boston at one time led by a 4-1 score before Paul Molitor tied the game with a 3-run homer off of starting pitcher Bill Lee. Bill Campbell came on in the 6th inning and threw 3 perfect inning in relief and picked up the win.

              Jim Rice went 5-6, including a walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers to give the Red Sox a split of the four-game series against the AL East leading Brewers. Carlton Fisk helped the cause by driving in 3 runs, including a 2-run double in the 3rd inning to start Boston out of a 6-0 deficit. Jim Wright pitched 7 strong innings in relief of Boston starter Allen Ripley as he allowed only 1 hit and struck out 2 during the long relief stint.

              Yaz hit a 3-run homer in the bottom half of the 1st inning and the Red Sox never looked back as they defeated the Cleveland Indians, 7-2. Mike Torrez won his first game as a Red Sox, going 7 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs. Jim Rice homered in his second straight game, going back-to-back with Yaz, Yaz's second of the game, in the bottom of the 3rd.

              Yaz singled in the bottom of the 10th to drive in Jerry Remy to win the game for the Red Sox, 7-6, over the Indians. Yastrzemski went 3-5 with a homer and 2 RBI in being named the player of the game for the second game in a row. Tom Burgmeier pitched a 1-2-3 tenth inning and picked up the victory. Jim Rice and Yaz went back-to-back for the second time in as many nights to highlight a 6-run 3rd inning before Cleveland started chipping away and eventually tying the game on a 2-run pinch homer by Willie Horton in the top of the 9th off Bob Stanley.

              Cleveland jumped on Boston starter Bill Lee for 4 runs in the top of the 1st and 2 more in the 2nd then held on to defeat the Red Sox, 10-7, in the first game of the double header. Andre Thornton hit a 3-run homer in the 1st, his third HR in as many games, to start the barage as "Spaceman" was pulled after giving up a 2-run homer to Buddy Bell with no one out in the top of the 2nd inning. Wayne Garland went 8 innings in picking up the win.

                    Whatever is easiest for you,I'm not picky.Also I've been reading this book called "The Summer Game" and there was a really good essay about the "Impossible Dream" Sox of 67.One paragraph in particular was really cool and I'm going to post it on this page if you don't mind,its really just about the Red Sox in general.

                        Thank you for posting it. I used to run from the school bus stop to my house in the afternoon during the World Series just so that I could watch the games. I was 7 years old.

                        I also have an LP titled Impossible Dream: The Story of the 1967 Boston Red Sox. It is narrated by the late Red Sox (and Cincinnati Reds) announcer, Ken Coleman. The LP also has a song that was written as a tribute to Yaz that year.

Boston starter Jim Wright left the game after the 1st inning after suffering a strained tricep muscle. Bob Stanley, who came on to replace Wright to start the bottom of the 2nd, pitched three scoreless innings and got credit for the win.

                          4/28 - The Minnesota Twins will lose the services of first baseman Rod Carew after he sustained a torn thigh muscle while running the bases. His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks.
                          4/29 - The Milwaukee Brewers were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Robin Yount was likely to be out for 2 weeks after he injured himself running the bases. The team doctors revealed the injury to be a inguinal hernia.
                          4/30 - Jim Wright of the Boston Red Sox could be headed for the disabled list after suffering a strained tricep muscle in a game against the Texas Rangers. He is expected to miss at least 2 weeks.

                          4/25 - A $14,632,000 package keeping Ken Singleton a member of the Orioles has been accepted by the player and his agent. He will earn $3,658,000 annually over the next 4 years.
                          4/29 - Team officials triumphantly announced that the Reds and superstar starting pitcher Tom Seaver have closed a deal that keeps the 33-year old in a Cincinnati uniform for another 4 years. He will earn $10,948,000 as part of the settlement.
                          4/30 - SION reports that the St.Louis Cardinals have just agreed with catcher Ted Simmons on a contract extension. The total value is $24,584,000 for 7 years, which equals $3,512,000 per season.
                          5/1 - Oakland officials and Dave Heaverlo shook hands on a $1,542,000 deal today. The extension will keep him from becoming a free agent for at least 3 years.
