Ron Pruitt highlighted a 5-run 5th inning with a 3-run homer as the Indians defeated the Red Sox, 8-4. Rick Wise scattered 11 hits and 4 runs in 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Allen Ripley was ripped and Reggie Cleveland was blasted by the Indians lineup as the garnered 6 hits off each of them.

Carlton Fisk went 3-4 and drove in 5 runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th to break a 5-5 tie, as the Red Sox split the two game series with the Indians, 7-5. Dick Drago pitched two shut out innings in relief of Torrez and Burgmeier to pick up the win while Wayne Garland was wacked around for 14 hits and 7 runs to take the loss.

The Red Sox offense, led by Rick Burleson's 3-5, 5 RBI night, knocked around Rangers' start Jon Matlack for 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings as Boston romped over Texas, 12-5. Dennis Eckersley (1-1) allowed 5 runs on 8 hits for 8 innings to earn the victory.

An error by Butch Hobson sets up Texas's first run of the ball game then the Rangers battered around the Red Sox bullpen as the Rangers evened the weekend series with a 6-1 win on Saturday. Rangers' start Jim Umbarger was the star of the game as he allowed only 3 hits and 1 run in 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Al Oliver was 3-5 with an RBI to pace the Texas attack with Davey Johnson hitting a 3-run homer in the top of the 9th to provide insurance.

The Texas Rangers' attack roughed up Boston starter Allen Ripley and the rest of the pitchers for 8 extra base hits en route to a 12-3 drubbing over the Red Sox. Mike Hargrove led the way by going 4-5 with a home run and 2 RBI and Fergie Jenkins went the distance for the win. Allen Ripley only lasted 3 2/3 innings and took the loss. The Red Sox loss drops them to 6th place in the AL East, 2 1/2 games behind the front running Milwaukee Brewers.

4/12 - Jerry Koosman and New York Mets officials have reached an agreement keeping the 35-year old starting pitcher another 3 years for $2,490,000 per year.
