    Walker: Texas Rangers (MVP 08)

    November 4th, 2007

    Rangers hire new GM

Arlington, Tx- A new regime takes over in Arlington today as news spreads throughout the baseball world about the new GM of the Rangers. In a press conference today, GM Kevin Rogers was introduced to the Texas media.

"I have lived all my life in North Carolina but I am excited to branch out and make my mark here in Arlington." said new GM Rogers. Many questions will need to be answered in the months and years to follow but one thing is for certain, offense will not be a problem for the new GM.

Kevin Rogers has also decided to keep manager Ron Washington with Texas and also mentioned that contract talks will begin soon to keep Washington for the long haul. "I think Washington is the kind of manager you need to build a young team. He is a proven leader that these kids will listen to."

When asked about the pitching staff, Rogers said "Right now I like where we are at. Millwood and Padilla are good pitchers that just need to keep their head straight. We could probably build around Volquez in the future but that is to be determined."

While this may be his first stint as general manager, excitement is building amongst the Rangers clubhouse. "We know he will try to put the best team out there for us. He knows what to do to keep us happy. I like him." said promising young second base man Ian Kinsler.

Well it should be an exciting offseason, and baseball is right around the corner.

        March 30th, 2008

Arlington, Tx- Baseball is in the air in Arlington and excitement is building throughout the state. People believe that this could be the year where the Rangers finally make strides to get into October baseball.

"This is a good team. The chemistry is getting there and I believe that the pitching is where we want it to be." says manager Ron Washington about his ball club.

GM Kevin Rogers made some wheeling and dealing this offseason but he was not the only one. Even in the division, teams made big changes to their lineup. In Oakland, Haren, Harden and Blanton are out and young talent continues to take over. In Los Angeles, the Angels picked up Mark Texieira and Torrie Hunter to bolster that lineup. Seattle added Erik Bedard to a talented team that many believe can give the Angels a run for their money.

When asked about the challenges of playing in a tough division, manager Ron Washington said "Baseball is challenging no matter where you play. Its a matter of being to able to play to your team's specific capabilities and everything else will fall in line. I'm not worried about how other teams are doing, I am just focusing on the Texas Rangers right now."

The Rangers open their series on the road this year as they travel to the Emerald City to take on the Seattle Mariners.

Ron Washington has posted his 25 man roster and here it is:

The team is going to score a ton of runs but the staff is also going to allow a bunch of runs, so look for a lot of shootouts.

The pitching staff needs an overhaul. Good luck in finding it & good luck with the Rangers.

Millwood deals and Blalock comes through late.

Blalock's RBI single in the 11th.

Seattle, Wa- Opening day was upon us and no one was more excited than new GM Kevin Rogers. Early though it appeared that the pitching would let this game get out of hand. The first two batters managed to get on and Ichiro scored but Millwood shut it down afterwards.

"I dont know, must of been the nerves that got the best of me." said Millwood on his first inning of work. He managed to calm down and only allow 2 runs in 6 innings against Seattle.

Texas managed to rally in the 6th and take a 2-1 lead before Seattle scored again to tie it up.

It went all the way into the 11th inning before another team could step up and take the lead. The Game-Winning RBI single came off the bat of Hank Blalock, scoring an excited Josh Hamilton.

"Well the hit and run was on so my job was to just put it in play. I managed to hit it right up the middle and [Josh] Hamilton scored." said Blalock about the big hit.

C.J. Wilson came in the game to shut the door and pick up his first save of the season.

                  Box Score
                  Tex 3 14 1
                  Sea 2 8 1

                  W-Nippert 1-0
                  L-Putz 0-1
                  S-Wilson 1

                  Notables
Blalock, Kinsler and Saltlamacchia each had 1 RBI for Texas.

I think that Highheat or Bhurst would be more knowledgeable than I am in trying to post it. I think that just posting the link to the boxscore, like mlblover does in his A's dynasty to the dynastymanager site, is okay.

Padilla pitching a gem for the Rangers.

Seattle, Wa- The offense has been a little baffled the past two nights but the pitching has truly stepped its game up. Last night it was Millwood and tonight it was Padilla.

Padilla only gave up one run. It came in the 6th, to brake up his no-hitter. The shot was delivered by Yuniesky Betancourt. "I felt good out there. The fast ball, change-up was just working for me today." said Padilla about his performance.

Texas scored twice in the in the fourth, with RBI hits by Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley, and that was all the Rangers needed.

C.J. Wilson came in the game in the 9th and recorded his 2nd save in as many appearances.

The finale is tomorrow, post game will be found here.
