Newcastle United, Be A Pro: Dave Green returns to Premier League Play!

    Newcastle United News:

Dave Green returns to Premier League play after a two year hiatus from England. Football fans may remember the teenage American phenom who came out of nowhere three seasons ago to lead Chelsea to the Championship. It was in the last game of the season that he suffered what many feared was a career ending knee injury. Taking a season off, he returned last summer to international play as the U.S. captain. His solid play in internationals allowed him to sign with Juventus where he led Serie A in scoring this past season. Yesterday may have seen Newcastle's prayers answered when the 19 year old American signed with the club. Financial terms of the deal have yet to be revealed to the media. Newcastle has announced that a press conference is scheduled for tomorrow where their newest player will be introduced to the public.

Re: Newcastle United, Be A Pro: Dave Green returns to Premier League Play!

    Press Conference

    Darsley Park:

Derek Llambias:Good afternoon, and thank you for joining us today. I am pleased to announce that yesterday we made a bold move to become more competitive for the upcoming season when we came to terms with American and Juventus Striker, Dave Green. Terms of the contract will be released later this week. Now, without anything further, it is my esteemed pleasure to introduce you all to our newest player.

Dave Green walks out onto the podium wearing Newcastle warmups, and shakes Mr. Llambias' hand.

Dave Green:First, let me start by saying what a pleasure it is to be here today. I want to thank Mr. Llambias, Mr. Ashley, and the entire Newcastle organization for giving me such a warm welcome. When I left Chelsea three years ago, I thought my career might be over, but I always dreamed of coming back to play in the top professional league in the world. While I enjoyed playing in Italy last year, my goal was to return to the Premier League, so when Mr. Llambias asked for a meeting to discuss a possible contract, I was more than happy to sit down and talk. Now that the business end of it all has been taken care of, I can get down to doing what I enjoy most about all of this, and that's play. Now, Mr. Llambias said I have to take some questions...so ask away.

Reporter:What kit number will you be wearing?

Dave Green:My high school number, #1

Reporter:Have they told you what formation you'll be running, and where you will be in it?

Dave Green:When I met with Mr. Keegan, and the other coaches they said I would be playing Left Striker, and we would be running a 4-1-2-1-2. I'm supposed to go from here right out to the pitch to have my first practice with the team.

Reporter:Sunderland has always been Newcastle's biggest rival, but how much are you looking forward to playing your old mates at Chelsea? Which is the more important rivalry for you?

Dave Green:Wow! That's a great question. Every match is an important one, and I want to make sure that the fans get what they want, so of course whipping Sunderland is a necessity. As for Chelsea...well, it's definitely going to be a match that I'll be up for. They let me go, didn't stand by me when I was injured. I know that's the ugly business part of this game, but all the same I can't wait to get out there and show them just how big of a mistake that they made by letting me go.

Reporter:You scored over 50 goals last year in Italy. Would you care to make any predictions as to how many goals you will score this season?

    Green laughs at this question.

Dave Green:How many do you think I'll score? Seriously, though, I think if I can put up over 30 then I'll be happy with my performance, but ultimately if can win the league then that's all that really matters.

Reporter:You were captain with Juventus. Was there some reason why you left there to come here?

Dave Green:Um, yeah. I wanted to play in the Premiership again. Turin was great. Italy was great. I enjoyed my year there, but I was always thinking of getting back over to England. This is where I wanted to be. Being captain isn't a necessity for me right now. Owen is the captain here, and I'm fine with that. No one should come in as captain, that is something that should be earned, so I'm fine with playing my role, and doing my job. Now I'm sorry I can't take anymore questions, but I need to get out to practice. Thank you everybody.

"One Man Show! Forward Dave Green Takes Matters Into his Own Hands and Leads Newcastle Utd to a 4-1 Win!!!"

      St. Mary's Stadium:

Overcast skies threatened rain throughout the match, but held off to see Newcastle win their first match of the season. The first 15 minutes of the match saw intense midfield fighting as both teams jockeyed for an advantageous position. It would be the Saints who would strike first as Gillett would take a long pass from Gasmi all the way into the box before feeding it to Lallana for the first goal in the 17th minute of matchplay. The Magpies wouldn't sit back for long, and were already threatening on the counterattack when Dave Green went down after a vicious tackle in the 23rd minute. He would manage to get up and continue, hitting a header off the post in the 27th minute that Owen would rebound into the back of the net to tie up the match at one apiece. The 32nd minute would see another score by Newcastle as Martins made a beautiful through pass into the box that Green made sure went into the upper right corner of the goal. Half time would see both teams still locked in a serious battle, with Newcastle up 2-1.

The second half would be dominated by Newcastle United. Crisp passing and solid offense would keep the Saints on their heels for much of the half. Second Half scoring followed the tune of the first half with Michael Owen opening up the scoring with a breakaway goal in the 51st minute. The Magpies would stay on the attack but couldn't manage to find the net again until the 72nd minute when Dave Green broke away from the pack towards the Saints' goal. Coming into the box from an angle he sent the ball flying high above the keeper's outstretched hands into the upper right corner of the goal putting Newcastle up 4-1. The Saints would try to mount another offensive but it would be all for nothing as the final whistle would see Newcastle United the victors with a convincing 4-1 victory in their first match of the season.

        POST-MATCH INTERVIEW:

Reporter:We're here with Dave Green to talk about the solid victory over Southampton. How does it feel to get your first goal and win with Newcastle?

Dave Green:It was awesome. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous when I first went out there, but after a few minutes I settled down and just played.

Reporter:In the 23rd minute of the match you went down with what appeared to be a leg injury. What happened? Are you going to have to take anytime off the pitch?

Dave Green:I was coming up the left sideline and went to make a break with the ball towards the box when Surman came in and made a spectacular tackle. There wasn't anything particularly vicious about it. He just caught me by surprise, and I rolled my ankle. It's a little stiff right now, but with treatment and taping I should be fine. I'll be ready for Fulham next week.

Reporter:How are you getting on with your new teammates?

Dave Green:Everything couldn't be better. Winning seems to help in that area. Granted it's only been one match, but I think things can only get better.

Reporter:There you have it Newcastle fans. Two goals, and some spectacular passing from Mr. Green give us all a reason to feel even more optimistic about the prospects for this season. Check in with us next week for another session of Player Watch!

          MATCH RESULTS

          VS.

"Newcastle Utd Literally Destroy Fulham, 6-0. "I Wish We Won Like That All The Time!!!"

          Craven Cottage:

Nighttime action at Craven Cottage saw the Magpies dominate and destroy Fulham. The Newcastle onslaught began in earnest immediately when Obafemi Martins took a Dave Green header off the post and sent it into the back of the net in the second minute of play. Fulham would move the ball consistently into the Newcastle side of the pitch but poor shooting and superior goalkeeping would keep the ball out of the net on the Newcastle side. In the 23rd minute Green would score the first of his five goals on a header from a corner kick that would put the Magpies up 2-0 at the half.

Second half action would see the Magpies dominate on four scoring runs as Green would add goals in the 56th, 62nd, 72nd, and 90th minutes of play. The last Newcastle attack that resulted in Green's fifth goal came off of a free kick when Leon Andreasen delivered a devastating slide tackle to prevent a Dave Green fast break. Adreasen was given a red car for the tackle, and shortly after Green scored on a fast break to end scoring in the match.

            POST-MATCH INTERVIEW:

Reporter:We're here with Dave Green to talk about the runaway victory over Fulham. Has it hit you yet that you just had a five goal performance against Fulham?

Dave Green:I admit it kind of leaves you feeling stoked to perform like that out on the pitch, but I didn't do anything special. The passing of my mates was superb, and set up a lot of my scoring opportunities.

Reporter:Care to make a new projection of the number of goals you will score this season?
Dave Green:(smiling and a small laugh)No, I'll leave the projections to you guys. You're better at it than I am. Right now, I'm just happy with my level of play.

Reporter:Leon Andreasen made a vicious slide tackle that could have injured you late in the game. Do you think his play on the ball was uncalled for?

Dave Green:Look, this stuff always gets blown out of proportion. I was on a breakaway with no one between me and the goal. Andreasen had to try and make the play. He just caught all leg, and zero ball. It was a fair try, and the right call by the referee. I didn't see any malice in the play.

Reporter:Looking forward to next week, you play Chelsea. I take it you're looking forward to this match.

Dave Green:Yeah, you could say that. I've still got friends on the squad. It will be different playing against them, rather than with them, but I feel like it's my chance to show just how much I still belong in this league. I think it's gonna be an exciting match all the way around!

Reporter:There you have it, Newcastle fans. Spectacular scoring from your very own left striker against Fulham, who now looks forward with much anticipation to the match with Chelsea. Thank you, once again, for joining us on another session of Player Watch!

Match Report: Newcastle United Vs Chelsea

              MATCH RESULTS

              VS.

"Newcastle Utd Settles for a Hard Fought 1-1 Draw in their Home Opener against Chelsea."

              St. James Park:

Londoners came out in droves to pack the stands for the Home Opener of Newcastle Utd on this night. Most were interested in seeing Dave Green's first match against his old team, Chelsea. After his five goal performance against Fulham, expectations were high for tonight's home match.

The match started off in quick fashion as Green took an Owen pass and broke away from the Chelesea defenders. With only Cech to beat he blasted a shot from left to right only to have Cech get his hands out to deflect the shot. What appeared to be a brilliant save was quickly rebounded by Martins into the back of the Chelsea net to put Newcastle up 1-0 in the sixth minute of action. The rest of the half would be spent with few opportunities for either side as spectacular passing kept the ball out of each sides' boxes. Near the end of the half Green would get off one more breakaway, but, once again, Petr Cech showed why he is one of the best, and the half would end with a 1-0 Magpie advantage.

The second half would belong to Chelsea, as the Blues would dominate time of possession in the half, as well as shots on goal. In the 55th minute of play Michael Essien would hit the equalizer when he found a Frank Lampard corner kick and sent it into the back of the net with a brilliant header to put the score at one apiece. The rest of the match would see Newcastle playing defense as Chelsea again, and again mounted attack after attack. Chelsea kept up their strong defensive play, and Newcastle could come up with no answer as to how to thwart the Blues' defense. Time expired with a 1-1 Draw. The Magpies and the Blues are now in a two way tie for first place.

                POST-MATCH INTERVIEW:

Reporter:What was the problem with Chelsea's play today that limited the team's offense today?

Dave Green:Um, they're a phenomenal defense to begin with. I admit, I thought we were gonna have a good day when Martins scored in the sixth minute, but their defense tightened up on us, and they stayed disciplined. Our chances were few, and we didn't capitalize on the ones we had.

Reporter:Are you upset with the draw?

Dave Green:A little, but most of the sports outfits were predicting a Chelsea victory, so from that perspective we came out ahead. I'm more upset with my level of play today. I knew I had to play my best football, and I feel like I played well, but not at my top level.

Reporter:Do you think that their strategy was to counter you out on the pitch, it seemed like you couldn't get a breakaway all match long.

Dave Green:I don't know if that was their strategy. I just think they're one of the top defensive teams in the world. They are masters at playing their roles, and they're very disciplined. Our halftime strategy was to maintain the lead until we forced them to come up to mount an offensive attack, and then counter with fast offense...it didn't happen. They scored early in the 2nd half, and played their style of football, which countered ours quite effectively.

Reporter:What are you looking for when Charlton comes to visit next week?

Dave Green:Better play up front. We have to get back to mounting more effective attacks, and I think we will. Chelsea was a fluke, I had never played against them before. Next time I'll know what to expect.

Reporter:There you have it, Newcastle fans. Words of wisdom from Dave Green regarding the hard fought draw with Chelsea. Join us next week, after Newcastle United takes on Charlton Athletic. Thank you, once again, for joining us on another edition of Player Watch!

Breakaway play was the name of the game in the first half as Obafemi Martins started the scoring for the Magpies. Dave Green would add two goals before the half, along with one more for good measure from Michael Owen. A red card earned by Mark Hudson, Charlton Captain, set Newcastle up for their final goal of the half scored by Green off a beautiful Owen through pass.

                  HALF-TIME SCORE: NEWCASTLE UTD-4 CHARLTON ATH-0

Newcastle dominance continued in the second half, with Charlton down one defender. The Magpies turned up the heat even further on Charlton. Dave Green quickly added two more goals in the 57th and 59th minutes. Obafemi Martins would score his second goal of the day off a long pass in the 81st minute. Dave Green would finish of the Magpie six goal half with goals coming in the 85th, and 90th minutes of play. Newcastle truly took the day in stunning fashion!

DAVE GREEN SCORES THE FIRST OF HIS 7 GOALS AGAINST CHARLTON ATHLETIC!

                    POST-MATCH INTERVIEW:

Reporter:You were simply amazing against Charlton. What was the reason behind your success tonight?

Dave Green:We were on our game tonight. Everything was working for us. Our defense was playing well, we were passing well, and the ball was dropping where we needed it to be. The passing of my mates set me up for numerous breakaways, and that's the difference between the game tonight and the game against Chelsea last week.

Reporter:Seven goals is truly a phenomenal performance. Are you worried that people are going to start to expect the extraordinary from you on a week to week basis?

Dave Green:I don't know. I think the fans are realistic in their expectations. I know they expect me to play well, and the team is paying me a lot of money to do so. I expect myself to play well. Now, will I score 7 goals every week, or even 3 for that matter? Probably not, but I'll give the team and the fans whatever I can, and however it turns out, they'll know I left it all out on the pitch.

Reporter:Why do you think Charlton had such a tough time defending you tonight?

Dave Green:They were playing with an aggressive offense, and we were able to capitalize on that. They were also down a man the entire second half after Hudson went out on a red card. That left them a defender down in the second half. I think that's ultimately what really hurt them.

Reporter:What are your expectations next week against Aston Villa?

Dave Green:It's only our second match of the season at St. James. Our first was a draw. I wanna give the home fans a win!

Reporter:There you have it, Newcastle fans, an interesting interview with the Premiership's newest superstar. Join us next week, after Newcastle United takes on Aston Villa. Thank you, once again, for joining us on another edition of Player Watch!

Alright, I finally figured out how to post pics off EA, next step is to start saving video, takes forever to save. Might only do it for really spectacular plays. Anyone checking it out, let me know what you think. Feel free to tell me what you like and what you don't like. I think I finally settled on a format with this last game against Charlton.

Don't entirely disagree, but Legendary cheats, and so World Class it is. The player is a 98 over all if that matters at all. I've got three more games to post, and the scores are much more realistic, but every once in a while I get the 10-0 games, but thanks for the sarcasm, it makes me feel alive.

"ONE MAN SHOW" FORWARD DAVE GREEN TAKES MATTERS INTO HIS OWN HANDS AND LEADS NEWCASTLE UTD TO A 3-1 WIN.

                            St James Park:

The first 30 minutes of the match saw very little offense as both teams fought back and forth for the ball in the middle of the pitch. In the 31st minute the first goal was put up on the board when Geremi hit Green with a beautiful crossing pass that Green sent into the back of the net. Green would put one more goal on the board for the Magpies just before the half.

                            HALF-TIME SCORE: NEWCASTLE UTD-2 ASTON VILLA-0

Newcastle would start off the second half quickly when Owen made a breakaway towards the Aston Villa goal before beautifully feeding it to Green for the goal in the 49th minute. Aston Villa would regroup and begin playing tougher defense as they sought a way to score. In the 76th minute, a long pass would find it's way to Aston Villa forward, Gabriel Agbonlahor who would find the back of the goal for Villa, finally getting them on the board. Unfortunately, for Aston Villa time would expire, and Magpies would notch another victory.

Reporter:Another impressive night for you. How do you keep it up week after week?

Dave Green:It's a testament to my teammates skill. They set me up week after week to do my job as well as I can.

Reporter:It almost seems that you aren't very challenged in matchplay of late. Is that a reality, or is there something more to it?

Dave Green:Look, it's not that it's too easy. It's more like I had 11 shots on target. I managed three goals. That's less than 30%. It would be like a baseball player batting a little under .300. I had a solid performance based on my opportunities, nothing more.

Reporter:What are your expectations next week against Bolton?

Dave Green:Just to keep playing at as high a level as I can.
