Jason was born on October 23,1990 to former NHL player Kyle Skyland and Canandian Olympic Womens Captain, Jessica Skyland. With that Jason was born to be a great hockey player, but no one knew how great he would become.
Jason got into organized hockey at the tender age of 4, where in his first season score 4 goals and gather 15 assists for 19 points. Not bad for a four year old, yet he was moved up to played with 6 and 7 year old as a 5 year old. Many thought his parents and the organizers were crazy, but that was where Jason would excel.
Jason put up a unbelievable 52 goals and 102 points. The next closest points scorer had 25 points. Jason was immediatley becoming a phenom at the age of 5. Could you believe it. Getting noticed by most of Ottawa (where he lives) at age 5. Jason decided to stay in that age group for the year but tone down the scoring. It didn't seem to work as he acquired 101 points plus 62 goals at the Age of 6.
He was moved up to the age group of 10 and 11 year olds as a 7 year old. It seemed to be more challedging for Jason, though he still led the league with an incredible 59 points. People finally thought Jason lost his hot streak, as for the age of 9, his points total were back to normal players for his age.
Jason decided to sit out the 2 years of hockey, but returned to the scene at the age of 12, skipping age 11 to see his grandparents who had recently moved to Sweden. Skyland missed half of the year with a broken leg, as he told the ref over and over that he was slashed at his leg.
Now a teenager, Jason was starting to be noticed by CHL scouts, though he could not be drafted (must be 16 or older to be drafted). Jason decided to drop out of organized hockey and try out for his senior team. Not many Grade 8 students were able to get on the 10,11,12 grade hockey team, but Jason was different.
Though Jason was small, he was the fastest skater. When the older, bigger guys tried to check Jason into submission, Jason would just out skate them with ease. If anyone thought Jason was the only phenom on the team, they thought wrong. Nick Barry had also become a phenom, but not for his goal scoring magnificence, but for his blood chirdling checks.
Together, the Skyland/Barry duo could not be stopped as they led their team to 2 back to back championships. Skyland then decided to move on to the OHL along with Nick Barry. The QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic. They had no trouble drafting Jason Skyland, who was finally split of from Nick Barry, who was drafted by the London Knights with the second pick. The draft is coming up and Skyland and Barry are ready.
