Kapitanov has dominated from an early age as a goaltender in his native Russia, posses incredible reflexes and agilty, a very good glove hand, and has a great eye for the puck. He loves to joke around with teammates, and talks all the time. He's a nice guy, but a very focused competitor, who is relatively calm in net, especially when making all too characteristic incredible saves. Has potential to be an incredibly dominating goalie, and has been compared to Dominik Hasek, in his days with the Buffalo Sabres.

He is very smart player at both ends of the ice, and can kill penalties when not in the box himself. In the offensive zone, he drives the net, screens the goalie and looks to make deflections and capitalize on rebounds. He has a big voice in the lockerroom despite not playing on the top lines. His teammates respect him for his poise, determination, effort and hard work.
