Keep it up though, I used to be a big fan of the Avalanche.
I know what you mean, the thing is I'm actually up to Dec 21st in game but am sort of on a catch up now. I'll try to add flavour now that I've got the first month out of the way; thanks for the help.

EDIT: I may even go back and add to the games I've done so far (it's all recorded in a excel spreadsheet anyway), should give me a chance to play something else as well over Christmas.

                SJS 0 0 1 0 2 33 0/1
                Summary:
A confident Colorado bench skated out today in hope of extending a three game winning streak at home to the San Jose Sharks.

The first period would set the tone for the whole game dominated by a battle of the goal tenders. In the Avs net would be Peter Budaj, who has had some outstanding nights so far this season and continued by stopping all the Sharks as they poured it on in the zone. He was not to be outdone though as Evgeni Nabokov was with him save for save as Colorado's Joe Sakic made several darts to the crease off the rush. The defense also stepped up as the hits kept the speedsters from breaking in on the goalies; Adam Foote making himself known to Patrick Marleau with the use of an elbow. A lose elbow accounting for their only penalty for the game. The period was closed out goalless as San Jose's Michelak recieved two minutes for hooking Milan Hejduk.

The second started with Colorado on the power play and Ryan Smyth, the teams power play expert this season, netted a quick goal as he pushed past the defense and banged it in off Nabokov's pads. The period would continue to go in the Av's favour as the turnover count rose via some sloppy neutral zone passes. However they would fail to convert any more, Wolski terrorising the pipes and fans alike with his wild one-timers. San Jose attempted to swing the momentum back by ramping up their physical game; Darcy Tucker being the first victim of a crushing boarding penalty. This tactic worked as Colorado backed off, wasting their second and third power play with only a few shots from outside.

The third period saw San Jose finally convert as a body checked Hejduk allowed Michelak to head goal bound, curve inside and roof home a wrister top shelf. San Jose continued to work harder and it paid off with some excellent offensive setups, all being denied by Budaj while the defense slept. It was amazing that Colorado managed to stay in the game at all. Of particular note was Ruslan Salei, although he may wish to forget it, who was caught napping on more than one occasion and being picked for puck by a speedy Sharks bench.

Overtime would be par for the course tonight as both teams pushed for a finisher. Colorado's best opportunity came from a deflated second line as Sakic's wrist shot beat Nabokov, rung off post, then crossbar and out again. Without a decider the game went to a shootout. The Av's shootout has been good so far with two wins over the Flyers and the Blue Jackets last Thursday. Joe Thornton began; skating straight at Budaj, dekeing left right and back to just push it past Budaj's leg. Sakic answered next with a wrsiter from the good old days, screaming its way past Nabokov's glove. San Jose's Patrick Marleau would score next putting them up one as he slipped it through Budaj's five-hole. The rest of the skaters would fail to score, giving San Jose the win and ending another Colorado streak.

                  COLORADO - 2 @ CHICAGO - 3 OT

                  COL 0 2 0 0 2 30 1/3
                  Summary:
After just missing out in a shoot-out yesterday Colorado would meet an even tougher foe in the form of a breakout Chicago team who have been less than impressive in past years.

The first period sounded off to a quick attack from the Colorado boys as Paul Stastny broke through to fire a little taster on net, that was met comfortably by Khabibulin's blocker. The Avs continued to press, winning both the faceoffs and the one on one battles. Milan Hejduk came close next a slapper from the wing ricocheted off the crossbar and over the glass. Colorado then sent out its second line with Joe Sakic winning the faceoff, keeping a stellar percentage which goes into the seventies now, but failing to take any shots that would really worry the goalie. The first and only goal of the period would fall to Patrick Sharp, who created a two on one rush alongside Toews, which had Budaj flailing in an attempt to pick up the puck. Despite lower numbers in all categories besides hits, Chicago would carry the lead into the second.

It would be less than five minutes of play before Chicago would make it a two goal game when Brouwer fired a slapper through traffic to beat Budaj, although a replay would show that it was Jordan Leopold's skate that turned the puck into the net. Two goals ahead the Blackhawks became lost focus allowing Ryan Smyth to intercept the puck and head for goal. The Chicago skaters, unable to catch him, tried a stick lift that ended badly as Smyth took one to the face; two minutes for Seabrook. The power play was quickly successful; Sakic winning the draw, passing it back to Clark who wound up a low slap shot to the left side that Sakic nudged to the right to completely outmanoeuvre Khabibulin. Eager to extend on the momentum Colorado would counter attack off a failed Chicago offensive, Hejduk passing back and forth between Stastny until finally burying one through the five-hole to tie the game with more than a period and a half to go. Colorado kept up the pressure which seemed to get to Chicago at times, failing dismally at the draw and being on the defense more often than they would like.

The third period saw the Blackhawks redress the balance and even up the game somewhat. The combination of Toews and Sharp seemed to be the only real threat that Chicago could muster, both chipping the iron on more than one occasion. Toews would certainly wish to forget a display tonight that saw him miss three one-timers, one by some distance. The Avalanche were in many ways suffering similar problems. Although he won the vast majority of faceoffs Sakic never again looked like scoring, neither did Svatos or Wolski who have failed to make any real impact so far this season. The period would then close leaving the game tied and another overtime looming for the tired Avs.

Unfortunately for them yesterdays game may have drained them as it was Chicago who looked better starting. After a couple of clearances the majority of play focused in the Avs zone with the tension was finally broken by Chicago. The passing play between Sharp and Toews again giving Peter Budaj the run around as Patrick Sharp roofed a wrister over the stick for the game winner. Colorado now face Minnesota on Thursday hoping that they can win big and win early in order to avoid slipping into a losing streak.

                  1st Period:
                  Sharp, P - 16:13 (Toews, J -- Seabrook, B)

                    Summary:
Today's game was a perfect example of how to never give up when behind and that dogged determination can reap rewards.

The first period started with the Avalanche winning the draw and getting to work on breaking down Minnesota's defenses. They were to be rudely awakened as Marek Zidlicky dealt Milan Hejduk a crushing check that sent sprawling across the ice. The Av's bench were up in arms over the lack of an interference call but the officials were having none of it. Seeing the aggressive stance of the Wild Granato sent out his checking lines in order to beat them back out of their zone. In a turn of luck it would be the 3rd line winger Ian Laperriere who would score first; a quick pass from Tyler Arnason met with the full force of the Laperriere's stick beating Backstrom down low. The celebration would not last long as a breakaway by Meittinen would even the score a little more than a minute later. The period would close out with no more goals.

The second saw the officials begin to make calls as both teams received penalties for cross checking as Cody McLeod hit Owen Nolan late. Words were certainly exchanged but it would fall just short of a fight. Despite this event Colorado would still fall short in regards to the physical game as Minnesota's defense kept their snipers to the outside. Brett Clark came close as his slap shot through traffic missed everyone but hit the post, this would be his fourth attempt for the game. Minnesota on the other hand were much more keen to play a passing game into the crease, rather than resort to screens. Although it kept their shot totals low, they certainly had the better chances and if not for a lack of finish could have been two or three goals up by the end of the second.

The start of the third was met by a darting Av's team who after winning the draw again, rushed down the middle trying to crash the net. A slapper by Paul Stastny was saved by the blocker only for Smyth to put in the rebound to put the Av's ahead. Just as in the first period the Wild were unwilling to let the Av's run away for the win and made sure that their checking lines were matched against Colorado's top two. While the Wild succeeded the Av's defensive parings failed to make a similar impact. Marion Gaborik, who had almost free roam of the ice throughout, made his second fruitful attack as a two on one finished with a classy top corner wrister. Keeping the line out was to prove a bad decision as with less than a minute gone Tyler Arnason, receiving a pass from the defense after a bad turnover, forcing his way towards net pushed the puck past Backstrom near side as both were bundled into the net. Colorado then played to keep the lead by defense, a tactic that has costed them late in many games and would cost them today. Gaborik would pick up an assist as his shot was saved by a sprawled Budaj, leaving a rebound open for Bouchard who scored as Foote sent him tumbling.

With the game tied Colorado would go once more into an overtime session. Again and again they tried to get close to the net, only to stopped by a stalwart Minnesota defense. Even on the power play, due to a cross checking call against former Av Martin Skoula, none of the Colorado skaters could finish the game. With the period goalless they would be in the familiar territory of a shootout, but once again fail to make opportunities count. Gaborik kicked things off with a well placed shot past Budaj's glove, a move that no doubt assured his first star. Sakic was next but just as in the game he failed to produce a decent shot, the puck easily stopped by the blocker. Bouchard was up next and really upped the ante as his shot beat Budaj's slow glove hand. It was now done to Milan Hejduk to keep them in the game but despite a left-right deke that had Backstrom beat his shot flew past the post to end the game in Minnesota's favour. One can only hope that Colorado's form does not continue to deteriorate as they face Nashville at home this Saturday.

                      Summary:
The Avalanche were at home against a Nashville team that is struggling to break even this season. However they stood a good chance against a home team that has been struggling this week with three straight losses.

With the drop of the puck the game was on and Nashville were the first to stake their claim on the points. Steve Sullivan tallied the first goal beating Budaj up high as Nashville's top line crashed the net. Not to be outdone Colorado quickly responded by driving to the back of the net. Paul Stastny held the puck up as long as he could before being crushed against the glass. Just before though he managed to get the puck back to Liles, who faked a slapper, electing to pass to Ryan Smyth who buried a one-timer top shelf. With the game tied it started to get rough; even rougher than the previous home game where the checks had dulled Colorado's offensive lines. Granato had obviously worked hard with the team over the past few days as the Avs seemed to vary their attack. It would be the first line to strike again, Stastny in the role of play maker queuing up Hejduk to bang home a one-timer in the crease. It was from this point that the game began to slow down into a scrum; Liles elbowing Martin Erat at the blue line putting the Predators on the power play. Things would go from bad to worse as a failed clearance attempt by Adam Foote would go over the near glass resulting in a delay of game minor. With a five on three you would have imagined Nashville to easily convert, but there was no such luck as it quickly turned into a four on three thanks to Sullivan hooking Ian Laperriere. In the end Nashville would miss out on a golden opportunity and end the period behind.

The second started as the first had finished. Scott Hannan was embroiled in a fight with Wade Belak that saw him win, but get called for a fight instigator minor. Nashville's power play would suffer the same fate as previously as it was Jason Arnott who was called for tripping. The Avs would then press into the Nashville end, getting a short power play themselves. A power play which was then added to as Nashville was given their own delay of game minor. Colorado tried to score but all they could manage was a Wolski shot that sailed off the crossbar and over the glass. It would be Nashville to score next as Legwans lost his defender and fired a wrister over Budaj's stick. The tie however lasted all of twenty seconds as the Av's second line found a spark; Sakic drawing the defenders to him but choosing to pass to Wolski who buried it top shelf. The Avalanche kept up the pressure but it was Martin Erat who lifted David Jones's stick to steal the puck, break past the goal line and center it to a waiting Sullivan at the crease for his second goal of the game. The second would close at three goals a piece.

Colorado were anxious not to repeat recent games where a lack of consistency had seen them give up leads that ended in losses. Joe Sakic won the initial faceoff, increasing his totals to a league top this season. They kept the pressure on but a mistimed line change would see the Predator's on the counter and require a stellar save by Budaj, followed up by a big clearance to ward off the danger. A mesh of the top two Av's lines would produce the next goal as Stastny led up the center, dropped the puck back to Smyth who in turn made a brilliant cross-ice pass to Svatos to bang in puck past a bewildered Ellis. As the game went on Nashville became increasingly desperate to unsettle Colorado, upping the hits in what would total as fifty eight for the game. Weber would be the next to recieve a minor penalty for boarding on Cody McLeod. Colorado would press their advantage but fail to keep the puck in the zone recording only one shot for the whole play. In the end both sides special teams would fail to make any impact as Colorado missed all eight chances. Fortunately they held onto the lead and broke their three game losing streak.

                        Summary:
Colorado began a three game road trip today as they faced a Vancouver team who are just breaking even of late. A notable change to the Av's lineup was the start for Andrew Raycroft, who replaces Peter Budaj.

The first period began with Colorado making an impact as the slow starting second line worked together, Marek Svatos beating Roberto Luongo on the wraparound. Vancouver would rally though and outplayed the Avs over the course of the period; Henrik Sedin having their best chance from a three on two rush, only to be beaten by a desperation save from Raycroft. The Avs would defend through the use of their physical game, Adam Foote sending Burrows crashing into the boards and having to be helped into the locker room. This seemed to keep the Canucks in check to end out the period ahead but far from looking strong.

The second turned out to be just as hard fought as the first, and it would be the Canucks to strike first. This time it would be a soft goal by Mitchell as he slapped home a rolling puck over Raycroft's stick to tie the game early on. The balance wouldn't last however as the Av's top line struck back. Paul Stastny deflecting the puck off a Scott Hannan slap shot. Despite gaining the lead the Avs would fail to even keep the pressure going as the Canucks dominated in the faceoff circle leading them to up their time in the offensive zone.

The third period would be the decider as the Colorado defense collapsed into what can only be described as amateur night. The floodgates opened when Bernier sticklifted the puck off Salei and banged home a wrister through Raycroft's five hole. Within two minutes the Canucks had scored again, Raymond beating the goalie with a backhand off a deke giving Vancouver the lead for first time. The Canucks would then go two goals ahead as Leopold screened his own goalie, letting Hansen's slapper go by without much effort. If anyone thought that maybe it was time to send Budaj in they would be certain as Raycroft was beat top shelf for the fourth time in a row by Henrik Sedin who was given too much room in the slot. Colorado would call a timeout and after some discussion it would Raycroft who returned to the ice. With only a minute remaining and three goals won the Avs went on full attack. Both Arnason and Wolski would score in the final minute but the failure in their own zone would ultimately cost them the game.

                            COLORADO
                            NEWS IN BRIEF

The Lake Erie Monsters continue top form as they sit third place in the entire AHL; behind the Portland Pirates (1st) and Rochester Americans (2nd).
Lake Erie Monsters sign new Goalie Juha Jarvenpaa to a three year deal.
Lake Erie's stars shine as Chris Stewart, T.J. Hensick and Kyle Cumiskey prove they are well on their way to becoming Av starters in the future.
The rumour mill is working hard as Detroit are believed to be interested in acquiring Ryan Smyth, with a mind to regaining their normal standing. Speculation is that a trade for a top D-man is on the cards, possibly Kronwall. Neither team has been available for comment.
The Avalanche bench is heard to be experiencing problems in-house in regards to discipline as they blew a lead yesterday against Vancouver by a total of four goals.
Peter Budaj (G) is making great progress and is set to start against Edmonton this Saturday.
