Toledo Rockets Intersquad scrimmage to be held this Thursday @ The New Savage Arena.

The annual blue and gold game will be the first ever public event in the new Savage Arena. Toledo head coach Gene Cross stated "I am glad to see the fans are excited we are sold out for a intersquad scrimmage this has never happened before." The Rockets are expected to repeat as MAC Conferance champions this season and are expected to make waves in the NCAA tournament despite losing four seniors from last season. The Rockets feature 3 preseason 1st team all MAC players in PG: RJ King, SG: Turner Hall, and C: Jason North.

Toledo Rockets season kicks off with Annual Blue/Gold game:

Last night the Toledo Rockets hosted the annual blue/gold game in the new Savage Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 8,000 fans. Head coach Gene Cross stated "It was exciting to get out on the court again. The fans are excited we are excited and want to get back to the tourney this season. This is just the first step."
Junior Jason North had 8 rebound and 2 points, Sophmore R.J. King scored 10 points, Sophmore Turner Hall scored 7 points, and Freshman James Tuggle scored 2 points with 4 rebounds. The Varsity squad defeated the non varsity squad 24-7 in two 5 minute halves.
The Defending MAC Champions start the season next week agains SMU in Savage Arena. (last season the Rockets defeated SMU 56-54) When asked about the upcoming season coach Cross stated "We feel ready to play with anybody and we will take it one game at a time, I have a great bunch of guys this year."

The Rockets were defeated tonight in Savage Arena due to poor shooting. It was a game of runs, at one pointe Toledo lead 18-7 followed by an 11 point run by SMU to tie the game. In the second half SMU had another 11 point run to put the game out of reach. Head Coach Gene Cross was very disappointed in his team's shooting. "We lost tonight by not taking smart shots period. If this team wants to play in the NCAA tournament this year we need to start playing smarter than we did tonigh." Cross's career record is now 22-11.
R.J. King had a poor performance tonigh shooting 4-18 for 10 points on the night. Jason North had a double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Toledo's next game is Vanderbilt (1-0) Last season Toledo played Vanderbilt twice lossing 71-78 and then defeating them in round one of the NCAA tournament 77-69.

Toledo gets past Vanderbilt in OT!
Rockets even record at 1-1.

Last night in Savage Arena the Rockets played a very close game against Vanderbilt. The score was tied 29-29 at half time and again tied after regulation 68-68. In overtime R.J. King and Turner Hall each scored 8 points and put the Rockets ahead with a final score of 88-84. Toledo shot 49.3% from the field and were 8 of 18 from 3 point shots. Turner Hall scored 33 points, R.J. King scored 31 points, and Jason North had his second double double of the season scoring 11 points with 20 rebounds.
Head coach Gene Cross was very pleased with the effort from his team. "we fough the entire game and beat a decent team tonight. "

Toledo Rockets head to #9 Duke tonight.
Rockets look to avenge last season's defeat.

Tonight the 1-1 Rockets head to play at Duke (2-1). Last season Toledo lead the Blue Devils by 8 points until a 15 point run to end the 1st half put Duke up for good, final score last season was 71-78. "We need to do a better job at stopping runs. Duke is a very good team but, we can beat them if we play our best basketball the entire game." stated coach Cross.
ESPN predicts Toledo 66 Duke 69.

Rockets lose another game to BlueDevils.
Duke hits 16 of 28 3pt shots to win game 97-84.

Cameron Indoor Stadium:
The #9 Duke BlueDevils defended their home court last night against the Toledo Rockets. The Rockets (1-2) were lead by Turner Hall and R.J. King who combined scored 57 points and were 13-26 from 3pt.
Duke proved too tough tonight led by I. Havens's 30 points he scored the BlueDevils first 16 points and was 8-11 3pt shots. As a team the BlueDevils shot 59.2% and wer 16-28 in 3 pt shots. Duke also out rebounded Toledo 35-21.
Toledo coach Gene Cross stated "we were out hustled, out shot, and outclassed tonight. We will head back to the gym and need to get better if we want to compete." Toledo shot 48.4 % from the field and were 13-28 in 3 point shots.

Lose to Flyers 63-72

"We are not a good team right now. I think that these guys see 3 all americans on our squad and it's gone to their heads." The Rockets have lost 3 of 4 games to start the season when they should be at least 3-1. Freshman SF J.Tuggle scored 13 points tonight and Jason North scored his 3rd double double on the season collecting 12 points and 16 rebounds. Toledo is struggling to hit the key shots and lets up to many runs to their opponents Dayton shot 53.7% from the field while Toledo shot 46.4%. " We need to start playing defense or we will not be playing in any tournaments this season" stated Coach Cross.

Turner Hall's guarantee: "we will win the MAC this season."

Toledo Rockets point guard was quoted today after being asked what he thought the Rockets (1-3) would finish the season at. Hall stated "we will win the MAC and make the NCAA tournament this season.
Coach Cross who seemed upset at the remark made no offical statement.

Hall's comments have the Rockets's Fired Up.
Toledo beats BC 104-79 in Boston. Now 2-3

Yesterday Turner Hall guaranteed a Toledo MAC championship while the team was 1-3 but tonight the Rockets looked like the team that everyone expected beating the Boston College Eagles by 25 points in their home court.

Toledo shot for 75.4% from the field and were 10-17 for 3 point shots on the night while outrebounding the Eagles 30-22.

R.J. King lead the Rockets with 27 points while Turner Hall scored 26 points and went 9-11 from the field. Jason North scored a career high 16 points and lead the team with 7 rebounds.

Coach Cross stated "We showed up tonigh, this is what we are supposed to be playing like." When asked about Hall's comments Cross stated "The kid has guts, I have spoken with him but, I am proud that he feels the way he does. These guys have worked too hard and were just frustrated with the 1-3 start."

Toledo host Cinncinnati (3-1) next. Last season The Bearcats defeated Toledo 87-71 at Cinncinnati.
