      Drake tops Gaels, 70-53

The crowd was pumped up for the season opener, however Drake came ready. Drake would play great defense, holding St. Mary's to only one Three-Point shot in the first half. The Gaels center, Samhan, had 4 rebs, and 6 pts in teh first half. The points were spread between all of the starters, ranging from 4-9 points to each player, including the Gaels power forward, Simpson, having 9. This showed the inside game of St. Mary's. However Drake would set fire with their shooting guard Young, and small forward, Korver, would keep hitting 3's and they would go into the half up by 11. The 2nd half, St. Mary's would pull within 6, and thats as good as they could get. their normal top shooter, Tron Smith, had only 7 points throughout the game. "It was horrible. We had too many turnovers. What was our count on turnovers? What? 15? That is absolutely horrible. Careless mistakes. Thats what lost us this game." - Words from the coach

      Top Scorers
      St. Mary's Gaels - C, Samhan, 14 PTS
Drake Bulldogs - PF, Cox, 19 PTS

Gaels hold off stunning CSUB second half and win; 66-54

After a dissapointing loss in the season opener to Drake, the Gaels would take on the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners. After the first half, the only thought was blowout. This is how it happened. Five three-point shots, and 20/29 FG's. 45 points in total in the first half. W. Hunter was on fire, with 14 pts in the first half. They would lead 45-25 at the half. CSUB would have a stellar 2nd half, scoring 29 in total with the help of Blakley and Robinson combining for 18 Pts out of the second half's 29. St. Mary's would get 21 points that half. Final score: 66-54.
"This game isn't very satisfying for me. Well, half of it was. The second half, if we were facing Oregon, who we are playing next week, they SURELY could have came back and won. We have to work on playing the full game."-words from the coach.

Gaels Play Hard, Yet come up short against the Ducks; 66-51

Upset, was the thought the Gaels had in mind. But shooting 8/26 in the first half put them off to a bad start. Hughes was off from three, and after the first half, they stayed within 8 because of the Gaels courageous defensive play. In the second half the crowd would come to life, as they would pull within 2 of Oregon. However, their point guard Porter, would hit a deep three, silencing the crowd. They would lead by 5, and the Gaels and Ducks would trade possessions from here on out. It would go back and forth until the end of the game. 66-51 the final. "Well. We played hard, and the fans realize it. I realize it. Tough loss, get over it. They were the better team in this game. Could we have beat em? Yes. Should we have beaten them? Yes. " - Words from the coach

              TOP SHOOTERS
St. Marys - Hughes 12 Pts.
              Oregon - Porter 11 Pts.
