          Bob Gainey stepping down!

In an a move that astonished most within the hockey world, it has been reported that GM Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadiens will be stepping down from his position. Whilst he did not mince words it would appear family obligations were the cause for this decision.

“It is unfortunate” said Gainey when asked about his decision. “I would have liked to have finished the five year plan however it cannot be helped at this time.”

After finishing the 2007-2008 season first in the Eastern Conference last year, the Canadiens had high expectations going into 08-09, especially with it being the 100th anniversary of the franchise. Gainey had been quietly criticized for having not signed any noteworthy free agents, however Canadiens’ owner George Gillett was quick to dissuaded any indication management was unsatisfied with Gainey’s performance.

“That is ridiculous” Gillett told the Montreal Gazette. “We in no manner felt Mr. Gainey performed poorly in his position as General Manager. It was entirely his decision to step away for personal reasons and we respect the decision he has made and hope to move forward.”

To replace Bob Gainey immediately will be interm General Manager Brad Henderson. “While young, we believe Mr. Henderson will help continue to mold the Canadiens into a cup contender and have faith in his abilities” stated Gillett.

Little is known about Henderson, although many sources claim he is a cut and dry, no nonsense type who demands the upmost from his roster, in addition to being a strong presence at the trade position, having built solid teams in the minor leagues through stellar trades and FA signings, during his tenure there; something the Canadiens have lacked for quite some time.

“It is exciting” claimed Henderson when asked about his feelings of the promotion. “I believe going into this season we have a strong group, although there are adjustments that will have to be made in lieu of losing certain players prior to my joining the Canadiens.”

While not naming names, it was believed Mr. Henderson was referring to Mark Streit, who had recently signed a five year, $20.5 million dollar contract with the New York Islanders, after having massed 13 goals and 49 assists for an impressive 62 points. His departure leaves uncertainty on the Montreal blue end once again.

When questioned about this, Henderson simply replied: “It is a definite concern, however only momentarily.”

The Canadiens another youthful presence at the blue line when they acquired prospect defenseman Matt Lashoff from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Alex Henry and centreman Ben Maxwell.>>
            > >
“We believe Matt is a rising young puck moving defenseman, who not only will help maintain our powerplay’s efficiency but also benefit from playing with Markov” stated lace w:st="on">Hendersonlace> to the media. >>
            > >
“Are you kidding? I’m ecstatic!” said Lashoff when asked about his feelings for playing for the Canadiens. “It is a little nerve racking but I want to prove I can play at the NHL level.”>>
            > >
Lashoff was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round, 22nd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has spent the majority of his career playing for the in the Ontario Hockey League for the Kitchener Rangers before joining the Bruin’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.>>
            > >
Lashoff has only minor experience at the NHL level, playing a total of 30 games, amassing a total of 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points with the Boston Bruins.

Alrighty, apologies for that delay. Had more to do than I had anticipated, plus I wanted to finish my editing the player ratings. I did not edit everyone however this has taken days, so yeah. I think I will just run with what I have and call it a day there. :P

My Roster Edit List can be found here. Perhaps now Detroit won't end up in 10th like they seem to manage in 90% of my dynasties.

I appreciate the following and will check out your dynasties as well, always interesting to see how removed from reality the AI gets.

Just wondering, did you give Maxim Afinogenov a more proper overall? i.e 79, maybe 80?

Actually I hadn't however glancing at this play lately, I had heard he was falling off the map but wow, never imaged he would drop that significantly. So I will go back and edit.

Might do a brief write up on the coding sometime although feel free to quote and copy it if you'd like.

Anyhow seems I chose a poor week to post this given the unexpected lack of time I had. Well that is all cleared up now and I finished all my roster editing to boot (that's a chore after a while) so I'll be looking to get things rolling over the weekend.

Did a trial game to make certain the sliders fit and definitely no argument there. Shame it won't count but Kostitsyn (Andrei) scored an absolute burn.

                              Buffalo wins home opener!

The game initially looked like it would be a struggle however after Sergei Kostitysn found the back of the nets the Habs seemed to quiet down completely as Buffalo sparked, surging sixteen shots on net. Price stood his ground but was beaten once during a five on three and immediately following it. Ales Kotalik put the Sabres up 3-1 with a powerplay goal less than two minutes into the second. Alex Kovalev gave the Canadiens some renewed life with a powerplay goal of his own in the third and despite come excellent opportunities, Miller could not be beat further.

                              2 - 3 OT
