Dethroning Memphis: A Southern Miss Story

    Courtney Beasely

6'3 Starting Point Guard, 76 overall, Senior

    Jeremy Wise

79 overall starting shooting guard, 6'2, Junior

    Sai'Quon Stone

76 overall starting small forward, 6'6, Junior

    Key Players^
    Other players in the rotation:
Brandon Cooks, 68, Starting Center, Sophomore
Andre Stephens, 63, Starting Power Forward, Jr.
Craig Craft, 73, Back up SG/SF, Senior
R.L. Horton, 70, Back up Point Guard, So.

Thoughts: I think its pretty obvious we will be playing small all year, which sucks, but I think if Wise, who in real life just declared for the draft, can really light it up we can do some damage in Conference USA... at least I hope.

Southern Miss Blown Out in Season Opener
Theo Robertson's 22 points too much for Golden Hawks to handle

A lot of times in life, people use the phrase 'if at first you don't suceed, try, try again.' That is what Southern Miss is going to have to do after losing 84-69 to California. "We couldn't get stops when we needed them," said Jeremy Wise, who led the Golden Hawks with 17 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Throughout the game, it seemed like Cal was getting good looks everywhere on the court; from three, lay-ups, post ups, you name it. Rebounding is another thing that hurt the team, and will continue to, because the Golden Hawks bigs have proven... untalented, and young. However, the three bigs of the team (Andre Stephens, Brandon Cooks, and Andre Jackson) each had 8 points, and the two starters contributed 6 rebounds a piece.

The Golden Hawks' schedule does not get any easier after this, however, as the go to Tuscaloosa to play the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Will they get their year back on track at a respectable .500?
