Traveling through the Minor's: WTF's Road to the Big's (MLB 2k9)

The What if scenario goes through each person's head, almost on a daily basis. What if I would have done this? What if I wouldn't have done that? What would have happened had I done this? But we live and we learn from our past and our choices, never getting the opportunity to go back and see "what if".

For me, I was a talented high school prospect in multiple sports. Baseball... Basketball... Soccer... Track & Field. If our High School had the sport, chances were, I was on the team. My true love? Baseball.

It was my Senior year in High School, 1999-2000. In a high school with roughly 400 students, athletic talent was few and far between. We had a few talented players, but normally our teams consisted of those few who had talent, and other's just playing for love of the game. Our basketball team wasn't expected to do much my Sr. year. Everyone turned their focus on me, and what my future held. Leading all time scorer, assist man, and rebounder, a lot of speculation accrued over the course of our season, on where I would end up. Which school would I choose? And as our season came to an end, so did my basketball career. Last game of the District Tournament, my sports world came to a crumble, as I tore my ACL, MCL, PCL, and lateral meniscus.

I spent the next months rehabbing in preparation for the fall, where I was signed to play with a Division I school. Surgery went well, and rehab was going great. It was the spring, and baseball fever was in the air. Prior to my knee surgery, I had fully planned to play for our High School Baseball team to see which sport I wanted to pursue. As the season crept closer, I began taking batting practice with the club, then fielding practice, continuing my rehab further and keeping the coach updated on my release condition.

"When you're released, your spot will be waiting on you..." he said. 1 week into the young season, the Dr. released me to play. He advised that my knee was about 90%, and shouldn't give any trouble. I was ecstatic. My true love was calling, and I couldn't wait to grab the leather mit, and hit the diamond.

The Coach to the game I love, rejected me... "I can't let you play... It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the guys on the team who have been here to start the season." The team took a vote... 16 guys wanted me on the team... 1 didn't.... The Coach. 3 quit the team in protest, but it as no matter. Coach stood his ground.

9 years later, I'm left to wonder, what if? What if he would have let me take the diamond with the guys I grew up playing America's game?

April 1, 2009.... Starting... Center Field.. For the Louisville Bats.... Number 8... Will.... Ferrell...
