Reds flutter way to victory 6-4 over Marlins

Newly acquired starting pitcher Tim Wakefield (9-1 2.00) earned his ninth win of the season by recording 10 K's in 5 innings of work. "His knuckler was all over the place. A couple of times there they jacked a few off the wall in left, but we got him out of there before it was too late.", said Bob Boone. The Reds have one of the best relief pitching cores in the majors, and it showed tonight. Mike Remlinger, Gabe White and Scott Williamson combined for 4 innings, allowing only one run to score on six hits, and striking out four. Williamson earned his sixth save of the season. In a game of small rallies, Shawn Green hit an opposite field two-run homer to left center, his 23rd of the season. The Reds improved to 30-25 (1/2 GB of Pirates) while the Marlins fell to 27-30 (9 1/2 GB of Phillies).

Player of the game: Shawn Green 1-4 w/ 2-run HR

Reds rally late to beat Marlins 5-3

Brad Penny didn't get the decision, but he had to be pleased after baffling Reds hitters with his fastball for seven innings. Penny struck out seven batters in seven innings, and only allowed two runners to cross the plate on five hits. "I blew the game for Penny", said Vladimir Nunez (6-4 5.83). "As soon as I came in, they started hitting everything that came over the plate. It happens." Nunez lasted only 2/3 of an inning, giving up three runs on four hits. Jimmy Haynes (3-5 4.64) won only his third game of the season. Haynes gave up ten hits but managed to get out of jams with double plays.

Player of the game: Geoff Blum 3-4 w/ a 2-run double.

Reds win thriller over Yankees 9-8 !!!

Shawn Green hit his 26th homerun of the season in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Reds the win. "I had no doubt, given that his velocity was down and that we've been hitting much better at the GAB, that if he hung one I was going to put the game away with one swing", said an excited Green. Earlier, Green hit his 25th homerun, a two-run blast to right-center that hung up long enough to clear the wall.

For the Yankees, Posado and Soriano each hit a homerun, with the rookie Matsui hitting two bombs.

There were a total of 34 hits in the game, with Shawn Green hitting his 25th and 26th homeruns of the season. "I don't think I've ever seen anything like it, it seemed like we were scoring every inning. It was a heart-throbber out there", manager Bob Boone said as he was whisked past the media by security guards.

                        Does anyone read our dynasties?

I mean, I hope I write OK. Sometimes I want to write about every game, but who has the time for that?
