Re: Got WSB 2K3 to work again, so here is my Devil Rays \'chise...

"Weaver finds lost intensity as Rays take 2 of 3 from Yanks."

Just 3 days away from the "Boss," and Jeff Weaver already has a goatee growing. In Detroit he was the young stud who was going to help out the Yankees with his aggressive nature on the mound, he was a "sure thing," said GM Brian Cashman. Well on Thursday he certainly was a sure thing. Weaver trotted out to the mound confidently facing his old teammates and blocked out all hecklers' remarks. "I just went out there and was able to play my game. I still have a long way to get back to my old form, but I certainly like the loose feel in the clubhouse. I don't feel so confined by rules of no facial hair, etc. I'm part of the youngest club in baseball and I was really psyched about today's start." Weaver went 7 innings and struck out 4 allowing 3 earned runs. Weaver didn't come out for the 8th inning and John Rocker was sent in to protect a 5-3 lead. Rocker quickly struck out the first 2 batters and then let up back-to-back homeruns by former Ray Terry Shumpert and Hideki Matsui. Rocker then struck out Todd Zeile to end the inning. The game was taken into the 11th inning when the Rays' bats awoke Aubrey Huff, Jason Tyner, Travis Lee and Ben Grieve had a slew of hits that brought around 3 runs to give the Rays a 8-5 lead with Jorge Sosa coming in to close out the game. Sosa struck out the side and the Rays won their first ever series in Yankee stadium. "I'm not calling anyone out, but, our bullpen needs to pick it up a bit, hell, we're not even working them that hard, there's no need for blown leads night in and night out. I still want to add arms into the bullpen." Said Rays Manager Lou Piniella. The Rays head to Miami to take on Florida in a 3 game set, and then head home for a 6 game stand against the Yankees and Braves.

Up Next: Devil Rays (30-41) @ Marlins (33-41)

    Probables: TB - J. Kennedy; FLA - M. Tejera

"Watch the game on Fox Sport Net Florida with Joe Magrane and Dewayne Staats, brought to you by TECO. Tampa Electric Company, 'We're here for you Tampa.'"

Re: Got WSB 2K3 to work again, so here is my Devil Rays \'chise...

      "BaseBRAWL Night in Miami."

The Devil Rays are finally what Lou Piniella wants...a team with an attitude, a team that looks out for each other, a team that has bonded like a family. Friday night that family...err...team, came together and in the words of Al Martin "We got each other's back." You certainly do Al. The Rays may have lost Friday night 2-0 in a amazing performance by Michael Tejara, but, they gained a stead-fast bond with each other. As Tejara continually threw at Rays' batters without warning after several Rays protests, both by players and coaches. Tejara must have something against the Rays, he only threw at every players head. The Rays didn't retaliate until Tejara came up. In the bottom of the 2nd Tejara was plunked by the Rays Joe Kennedy. Lou Piniella figured that would send the message, "Apparently, he didn't get it," said Lou [Piniella] after the game. Coming out for the 3rd inning Tejara continued to throw at Rays batters, from which several protests and shouting matches erupted, still, no warning from Plate Ump Richard Chardelou. As Tejara came up for his next at bat Kennedy got the signal from Pitching Coach Chris Bosio, Kennedy once again plunked Tejara. "I really thought after the second time he would've gotten the idea we don't appreciate him head-hunting out on the mound. Its one thing to throw inside, its another to repeatedly attempt to hit guys, we just won't stand for it." Said Joe Kennedy after the game. The message still wasn't clear for Tejara and he continued his actions. Finally, in the bottom of the 8th inning, in Tejara's 3rd at bat, Kennedy once again plunked Tejara who finally took offense and both benches cleared and several ejections issued. As Tejara sprinted out to the mound Kennedy took off his glove and met him halfway punching him square in the face, soon after the Marlins Mike Lowell sucker-punched Kennedy from behind and the melee ensued. The most notable objections besides Tejara, Kennedy and Lowell were the Rays Carl Crawford for taking down Lowell and the Rays John Rocker for tackling and kicking Tejara as he tried to get up. Rays Manager Lou Piniella stood up for his guys after the game, "Hell, we got a guy throwing at us all night, and we're not just gonna sit back and take it. I like the way we took up for each other, we had a little fire and intensity out there, we've decided we won't be pushed around. Who knows, this could be the beginning of something big, maybe we start playing lights out baseball."

      Boxscore:
      TB 0 4 0
      FLA 2 6 1

      WP: M. Tejara (1-2)
      LP: J. Kennedy (3-8)
      SV: T. Spooneybarger (7)

"Yankees take first of 4 in Tampa."

It certainly wasn't pretty at Tropicana Field. Nick Bierbrodt may not have let up a lot of runs, but, he certainly gave up a lot of hits in the Rays' 6-2 loss to the Yankees last night. Once again the weak spot for the Rays was their bullpen, Jorge Sosa was rocked for 5 hits and 4 runs in a weak 2 1/3 innings of work. The Rays bats weren't really awake either. Though the Rays managed 8 hits, poor baserunning decisions stalled them from ever getting into the game. Rays GM Chuck LaMar is said to be working on some possible deals to bring in more bullpen arms.

                              Boxscore:

                              NYY 6 13 1 WP: D. Wells (6-5)
                              TB 2 8 0 LP: N. Bierbrodt (4-5)

                              GAME 2 (SIMMED):

                              NYY 8 12 1 LP: S. Karsay (4-2)
                              TB 9 16 2 WP: L. Carter (7-3)

*BTW Jeff Weaver has 2 No Decisions against his former team, but, has pitched well enough to win both games. I think that's kinda cool.

                              GAME 3 (SIMMED):

                              NYY 5 14 1 LP: J. Contreras (7-3)
                              TB 6 11 0 WP: L. Carter (8-3)

                              GAME 4 (SIMMED):

                              NYY 2 7 1 LP: J. Lieber (0-2)
                              TB 8 18 2 WP: V. Zambrano (5-7)

How about that!?!?! I take 3 of 4 from the Yankees! I'm pretty stoked, I couldn't believe it when I was simming. I'm still looking for some cheap, decent middle relief help. Anyway, the Rays are on tonight at 7 so if I can get another game in before then I will play it, if not, then I'll plan another game tomorrow.

UP Next: 3 game home series against the Braves.
