Re: Madden 2004: Desert to Desert

I made the trade before writing down Johnson's overall rating.

WR Bryant Johnson: Don't know, when viewing another team's roster it doesn't give you the OVERALL rating.

    QB Blake Smith: 69 overall

If you're *really* interested, I suppose I can write out all the ratings, but on the trade sheet it was rated a D+ for a D+. I wanted Smith so I could have someone to groom if I was unable to pick up a reliable quarterback after this year.

Re: Madden 2004: Desert to Desert

Detroit (0-0) at Las Vegas (0-0)

      1st Quarter
Detroit opened up the game with a decent drive that led to Jason Hanson's first field goal, giving Detroit the early 3-0 lead. After a failed drive, the Outlaws forced the Lions to punt, and rookie WR Justin Hansen returned the punt 76 yards to put the Outlaws on top 7-3. The quarter would end with the score remaining the same after Las Vegas' defense didn't let Detroit go anywhere.

      2nd Quarter
Early in the second quarter, Las Vegas QB Jeff Blake found WR Justin Hansen for a 14-yard touchdown score to give the Outlaws a little breathing room at 14-3. Hanson added another field goal for Detroit and Las Vegas' Bill Gramatica hit a 41 yarder as time expired to make it 17-6 at halftime.

      3rd Quarter
This is when all hell broke loose. Jeff Blake threw an interception on the opening drive to put Detroit in Outlaw territory. A field goal narrowed the gap 17-9. On the following drive, Blake threw another INT and CB Andre Goodman returned it for a touchdown. A failed 2-pt attempt left the score at 17-15. Thinking their troubles were over, the Outlaw offense took to the field. On second down, Jeff Blake fumbled the ball to who else but CB Andre Goodman. He chose to take this one to the house as well, and Detroit converted on a 2-pt attempt to make the score 23-17. Las Vegas would avoid a turnover on their next drive, but they had to punt, and Hakim made them pay with a return for a touchdown to put the Lions ahead 30-17 going into the 4th quarter.

      4th Quarter
Another drive, another field goal for Detroit. They now had a nice 33-17 lead. The Outlaws responded with a 68-yard drive that ended with Stephen Davis punching it into the endzone to bring Las Vegas within 10 points after their own 2-pt attempt failed. Defense conquered the majority of the quarter for both teams, and finally with a minute to go, WR Justin Hansen returned another punt for a touchdown to give the Outlaws hope with the score 33-30. After the Lions recovered the onside kick, however, their fate was sealed.

FINAL: Detroit beats Las Vegas 33-30

      Key Performances
      QB Jeff Blake - 16/37, 184 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
      RB Stephen Davis - 23 att, 83 yards, TD - 5 rec, 68 yards
WR Justin Hansen - 3 rec, 37 yards, TD - 2 PR for TD

      Straight From the Coach
"I think this game showed us something. And that is that we have a long road ahead of us, and it isn't going to be easy. We came close to pulling off a victory here today. There were some players I thought performed incredibly despite the loss, such as rookie WR Justin Hansen. So, as I said, we have a long way to go... but eventually this team will get there."

Re: Madden 2004: Desert to Desert

Philadelphia (0-1) at Las Vegas (0-1)
This was an interesting game as the Outlaws were playing their hearts out in an attempt to win while Donovan McNabb supposedly didn't get the memo to bring his "A" game.

            1st Quarter
On the opening drive, the Outlaws forced Philly to go 3 and out. This turned out to not be a problem as Las Vegas QB Jeff Blake tossed the ball for an interception at midfield. After forcing another punt, the Outlaws drove downfield and Gramatica hit a 36-yard field goal to give them a 3-0 lead. As the first quarter was ending, Philadelphia was threatening from the 11 yard line, but CB Duane Starks picked off McNabb in the endzone!

            2nd Quarter
Las Vegas took advantage of dodging an Eagles score and drove the field themselves. Jeff Blake hooked up with Hodgins for a 13-yard touchdown. The Outlaws were now leading 10-0. Philadelphia's offense just couldn't get started and they had to punt again. Rookie WR Justin Hansen returned the ball to just inside the redzone. Las Vegas got nothing out of the excellent field position as Gramatica hooked his next field goal attempt. McNabb came out firing on the next drive and Philly was quickly on the 33 of Las Vegas, but the drive stalled and David Akers fell short on a 50-yard field goal attempt. The Eagles got the ball back but FS Dexter Jackson intercepted the ball at the Philadelphia 22 with twelve seconds left in the half. Gramatica made a 38 yard field goal to give the Outlaws a 13-0 lead at the half.

            3rd Quarter
The second half started out all too familiar for Las Vegas as WR Justin Hansen fumbled on the kickoff. Dexter Jackson again saved the day as he intercepted the ball-- this time at the 13 of the Outlaws. It was nothing for Philly to get concerned about, however, as Brian Dawkins intercepted Jeff Blake on the very next play and returned it to the 15 yard line. All the Eagles could muster was 3 points off of a 36 yard field goal by Akers. As the quarter was closing out, Philadelphia had the ball but Dexter Jackson came away with his THIRD interception of the game!

            4th Quarter
Las Vegas took advantage of the turnover this time and got to the four yard line before QB Jeff Blake ran it to paydirt to give the Outlaws a very healthy 20-3 lead. McNabb finally (temporarily) came to life and led a quick-strike drive, ending with a 27 yard touchdown pass to Mitchell to make it 20-10. From this point on, Las Vegas did their best to run the clock out. They survived a few scares from the Philadelphia offense and ended up coming away with their first win of the season, and a big win at that!

Final: Las Vegas upsets Philadelphia 20-10!

            Key Performances
            QB Jeff Blake - 12/27, 116 yards, TD, 2 INT - 1 rush TD
            RB Stephen Davis - 32 att, 136 yards - 2 rec, 8 yards
FS Dexter Jackson - 2 tackles, 3 INT

            Straight From the Coach
"This team accomplished something great today in defeating a team like the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully we will see more of this type of play in weeks to come. This was a great win for us today. Stephen Davis and Dexter Jackson were huge for this team. I'm very happy with today's performance."

            Straight From the Owner
"This is exactly why we hired Mike as our head coach. We knew he had the potential to win big games such as the one today. We hope to see more games like these."

Re: Madden 2004: Desert to Desert

Las Vegas (1-1) at New York (1-1)
This was another wild contest involving two teams that put points on the board, but in the end only one could walk away with the victory.

                  1st Quarter
New York won the toss but opted to kickoff first. This appeared to be a bad decision as the first play was a 79-yard run by Stephen Davis to give the Outlaws a very fast 7-0 lead. New York stormed downfield as a response and eventually Tiki Barber took the ball into the endzone from 14 yards out to tie the game. Las Vegas ate up some time with a nice drive resulting in Bill Gramatica hitting a 41 yard field goal to put the Outlaws back on top 10-7. This new lead was short-lived, however, as New York's Kinney returned the following kickoff the distance and put the Giants ahead 14-10.

                  2nd Quarter
Lots of action in this quarter, starting off with another field goal from Gramatica. The score was now 14-13, New York still had a slight edge. On the next possession, Kerry Collins was picked off by none other than FS Dexter Jackson at the New York 30. Las Vegas took advantage and from the 1 yard line, Stephen Davis punched it in for his second score to make it 20-14. New York's woes were not over as they fumble the following kickoff. This time it was a two yard touchdown run by Davis and Las Vegas now had a nice 27-14 lead. Things were getting a bit wild it seemed. With just a shade under two minutes left, Hollis nailed a 31 yard field goal to bring New York within 10. The Outlaws were not finished though and were able to add a 33-yarder of their own to put the score at 30-17 going into halftime.

                  3rd Quarter
Not a whole lot of action early in the quarter, but midway through, WR Amani Toomer made a spectacular 60 yard touchdown reception. With the score now 30-24, the Giants defense was pumped up, forcing a three and out. New York drove downfield again, but Hollis was short on a 50-yard field goal try.

                  4th Quarter
Las Vegas was threatening again, but Jeff Blake threw an interception. On the very next play, CB Duane Starks intercepted the ball and brought it to New York's 19. Back-to-back interceptions. Not extremely rare for a defense to get the ball back so quickly. Back-to-back-to-back interceptions is a little more rare, and with Jeff Blake's bad pass, that's exactly what happened-- another New York interception. The defense held strong, however, and after a short drive, Gramatica increased the lead to 33-24. The Outlaws had left little time on the clock and that proved to be important as Kerry Collins found Jeremy Shockey for a 17-yard score with just 4 seconds left. Las Vegas recovered the onside kick attempt to hold on for the win.

FINAL: Las Vegas upsets New York 33-31.

                  Key Performances
                  QB Jeff Blake - 12/23, 194 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
RB Stephen Davis - 27 att, 197 yards, 3 TD
WR Jason McAddley - 3 rec, 86 yards, 0 TD

WR Jason McAddley - 3 rec, 86 yards, 0 TD
DT Wendell Bryant - 2 tackles, 2 sacks

I hate to say this, but I am just not "feeling" this franchise. It's not as fun as my Houston Cougars dynasty. I was thinking about starting another franchise with the 49ers since they are my favorite team. Either way, I'm still going to be active in my Cougars dynasty. I wanted to know what you guys thought:

                        What to do?
                        Only Houston Cougars dynasty
                        Houston Dynasty / 49ers Franchise
                        49ers Franchise
                        Other (Specify)

Thanks for any feedback you guys! Again, sorry, I don't know what it is. I think it's the fact that it's not as fun playing as a team other than the Niners.
