Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Roy Halladay went 6.1 innings giving up six hits and two runs over that span, but it was not enough for the New York Yankees as the were defeated in both teams season opening games by a score of 6-3.
"We came through with some key hits in that 5th inning and that carried us to the victory" said Jays starter Roy Halladay
Halladay is of course refering to the 5th inning of today's game in which the Jay put up three runs all on a three run home run by Carlos Delgado which at that time gave the Jays a commanding 5-0 lead.
In fact the Jays scored all 6 of their runs over the course of three consecutive innings(3rd, 4th, and 5th) in which Eric Hinske, last years American League Rookie of the Year proved why he got that honour last season with a solo blast in the first inning, this was followed up by a two run jack from Chris Woodward in the 4th inning, and capped off by the aforemention Delgado three run homer in the 5th.
