Here is what we did in a very eventful offseason:
The offseason has been completed. Chad Pennington will once again be behind center, with a rookie 5th round draft pick who has been impressive in training camp, taking over for the retired Vinny Testaverde at the backup position.
Curtis Martin will start at running back, but will share the load with Lamont Jordan. Martin is in his contract year, and most likely will give way to Jordan full time after this season.
B.J Askew will take over for Sowell as the starting fullback, with Sowell being the backup.
Santana Moss will be the #1 receiver. Free agent pickup Tai Streets will be the #2. 1st Round draft pick Terrance Abbot will start the season as the #3 receiver. Wayne Chrebet went to the Bills through free agency, and Curtis Conway was cut.
2nd Round Draft Pick Wilfred Pittman will become the starting Tight end, and Anthony Becht will be reduced to a backup role.
The offensive line will stay the same, but rookie guard Jessie King has been improving nicely and could become a starter at any time.
On the defensive line, the ends will stay the same with Abraham and Ellis. Josh Evans will start at DT a long with 2nd year Dewayne Robertson. Jason Ferguson was traded to Dallas for late round draft picks.
At linebacker, Mo Lewis was cut a long with Marvin Jones. Victor Hobson will take over for Lewis, and free agent John Holecek will start in the middle. Sam Cowart will stay at the weakside.
In the secondary, Aaron Beasley will stay along with rookie Bryan Newman. Sam Garnes and Tyrone Carter will be the safties.
Doug Brien will be the kicker again, and free agent John Lett will handle the punting.
The Jets changed a lot in the offseason, as quite a few veterans said goodbye, or will be playing in reduced roles. The defense is much younger and faster now, and the offense looks much improved. Whether the Jets will be better or worse than last year remains to be seen, but they took a step in the right direction. The secondary will probably become the weak part of the team, so there will be a lot of pressure on the front 7 to pressure the QB. Should be an interesting year for the Jets.
The Jets will open the season against Pittsburgh.
I am playing on all pro, 7 minute quarters, slightly adjusted sliders.
