    Georgetown Hoyas (ESPN CH)

The Hoya basketball program has had its fair share of triumps and glory, but as of late, the usually above average squads of Georgetown are slumping. Hoping to change this, coach Adrian McLeod steps in to fill the head coaching void, bringing along assistants Chaz Cook and Timothy Foster along for the ride. The trio hope to regain team prestige in the years to come for the extraordinary program of Georgetown basketball.

    STARTING LINEUP
PGAshanti Cook - The soph floor general has more than enough talent to succeed at this level, and Coach McLeod is looking for Cook to have a breakout year. Cook has distance with his jumper, and has steady hands, contributing to a splendid assist to turnover ratio that any coach would love.

SGDarrel Owens - The 6'6 2-guard can do anything he's asked to, and will be looked to to bring the intangibles to the floor each and every night. Owens isn't particularly great at anything, but he's good at everything, giving him his share of playing time.

SFGerald Riley - The senior swingman will be looked to do his fair share of scoring, as well as bring some much needed leadership to this younger team. A dynamic scorer, guarded or not, Gerald Riley should be a household name by season's end.

PFBrandon Bowman - Just a big body inside, Bowman doesn't bring anything different to the table than any other Hoya bigman. Only a sophmore, Bowman has a lot to learn before his college days are over, and should mature into a good bigman.

CCourtland Freeman - Simply put, Freeman is a beast inside that no man wants to mess with. His huge body gives him the advantage on many smaller bigmen, and will be looked to as a number two scorer this season. Expect 10+ boards per game from this massive kid.

    Key Bench Players
    SG - Rayshawn Reed
    PG - Ken Izzo

The Hoyas visited the Tigers of Grambling State University, in hopes of giving Coach McLeod a win in his Georgetown coaching debut.

The first half went even better than expected for the Hoyas, as it seemed the Tigers forgot what defense was. Capitalized by huge runs, G'Town jumped out to a huge first half lead of 24 points, lead by senior Gerald Riley, who has 15 points off of 10/11 shooting in the half.

After the brief intermission, the Hoyas were right back at it. Point man Ashanti Cook fed numerous teammates for easy baskets, and hit a couple of three pointers himself. Grambling State just couldn't get anything going, and were simply manhandled on the boards, getting outrebounded...badly. After all was said and done, the Hoyas walked away victorious, 81-41.

Player Of The Game - Gerald Riley: 26 Points, 11/18, 5 Rebounds

    Cook - 12 Points, 10 Assists
    Freeman - 18 Points, 16 Rebounds
    Bowman - 10 Points, 12 Rebounds

    Daniel Blair - 13 Points, 6 Rebounds
    Brion Rush - 9 Points, 2 Assists

    Total Rebounds
    GU - 45
    GSU - 19

The Hoyas traveled from Grambling State University in Louisiana to Pennsylvania to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions, hoping to start the season on a road winning streak.

The opening period was very close to begin with, as both teams shot relatively high percentages from the field. G'Town was lead by sophmore Ashanti Cook, who racked up a total of 7 assists in the first half alone. Going into the break, the Hoyas had opened up a 12 point lead over the Nittany Lions.

The second half was much of the same, as Georgetown continued to run the show. Gerald Riley caught fire midway through the half, and showed signs of greatness, hitting shot after shot and posterizing Penn St. players. In the closing minutes, however, the Nittany Lions bridged the gap, and came within three points. Due to fouls, however, the Hoyas pulled away and claimed another win, 80-74.

Player of The Game - Ashanti Cook: 14 Points, 13 Assists, 2 Rebounds, 2 Blocks, 2 Steals

          Riley - 19 Points
          Reed - 10 Points

          Deforrest Riley - 19 Points, 5 Assists
          Aaron Johnson - 18 Points, 7 Rebounds, 5 Assists
          Jan Jagla - 14 Points, 15 Rebounds

                Coastal Carolina @ Georgetown

The Hoyas made their home debut and hoped to put away the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University without too much of a fight.

The first half was all good for G'Town, as point man Ashanti Cook got off to a quick start and led his team to an early lead. Cook hit two threes in the opening minutes of the game, as the Chanticleers' defense left him with way too much space. Going into the half, the Hoyas held a comfortable lead, but CCU was slowly creeping back.

As the second half began, it was obvious that the Coastal Carolina coach had some strict words with his team during the break. Floor general for the Chanticleers, Alvin Green, hit huge shots in his teams comeback effort, and really got into the grill of the Hoya defense. Closing out the game was easier for G'Town, though, as the Chanticleers resorted to fouling, giving the Hoyas many easy points. Georgetown closed the game out on a 12-2 run, winning 85-75.

Player Of The Game - Ashanti Cook: 20 Points, 10 Assists, 10 Rebounds, 2 Steals, 3/6 3pt FG

                Georgetown
                Riley - 21 Points
                Freeman - 15 Points, 5 Rebounds
                Bowman - 9 Points, 10 Rebounds

                Coastal Carolina
                Alvin Green - 32 Points, 8 Assists, 3 Steals, 6 Turnovers

Yeah, A. Cook is doing way better than I thought he would, and he steps up and hits big shots when I need one .. He's only a soph., so I plan on having him for awhile.
